    Wrecked by Shiloh Walker

Wrecked by Shiloh Walker is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance about two former child stars. Sarah reviewed this book and gave it a B-:

I was rooting for their relationship to change, and I was rooting for them both. Wrecked is a sweet and sexy story that, despite some repetitive flaws, was charming and fun to read.

In the nineties, Abigale Applegate and Zach Barnes were the most beloved sitcom child stars in the world. Then they grew up and left Hollywood behind…

    Whatever happened to Abigale Applegate?

She’s been wondering the same thing.

With her Hollywood dreams long gone, Abigale now has a nice, neat, uncomplicated life—until the day her perfect fiancé needs to talk. Dumped, a little more than shattered, and totally confused, Abigale turns to Zach, her best friend since forever, to help her pick up the pieces. He does it with a gift—a copy of Wreck This Journal. She can vent her frustrations, and sketch out a new plan. Zach just hopes he’s part of it. Because he’s been in love with Abigale his entire life.

When the journal falls into Zach’s hands, he discovers Abigale wants a new man. And fast. Nothing more than a hot distraction. Zach has a strategy, too. He’s going to be that man. It’s his last chance. Abigale might be out to shake up her life, but Zach’s out to reinvent it. Now, all he has to do is convince Abigale that life can go as planned.

  • We’re Going to Need More Wine

We’re Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union

RECOMMENDEDWe’re Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union is $2.99! Sarah read this one and gave it an A-:

Her perspective as a parent, an actress, an activist and artist, and as a person was a treat and a privilege to read. Half my friends are probably tired of hearing about this book in every text and message, but it’s worth passing along. This was a thoughtful and honest memoir, and I very much recommend it – especially for the Prince stories.

In the spirit of Amy Poehler’s Yes Please, Lena Dunham’s Not That Kind of Girl, and Roxane Gay’s Bad Feminist, a powerful collection of essays about gender, sexuality, race, beauty, Hollywood, and what it means to be a modern woman.

One month before the release of the highly anticipated film The Birth of a Nation, actress Gabrielle Union shook the world with a vulnerable and impassioned editorial in which she urged our society to have compassion for victims of sexual violence. In the wake of rape allegations made against director and actor Nate Parker, Union—a forty-four-year-old actress who launched her career with roles in iconic ’90s movies—instantly became the insightful, outspoken actress that Hollywood has been desperately awaiting. With honesty and heartbreaking wisdom, she revealed her own trauma as a victim of sexual assault: “It is for you that I am speaking. This is real. We are real.”

In this moving collection of thought provoking essays infused with her unique wisdom and deep humor, Union uses that same fearlessness to tell astonishingly personal and true stories about power, color, gender, feminism, and fame. Union tackles a range of experiences, including bullying, beauty standards, and competition between women in Hollywood, growing up in white California suburbia and then spending summers with her black relatives in Nebraska, coping with crushes, puberty, and the divorce of her parents. Genuine and perceptive, Union bravely lays herself bare, uncovering a complex and courageous life of self-doubt and self-discovery with incredible poise and brutal honesty. Throughout, she compels us to be ethical and empathetic, and reminds us of the importance of confidence, self-awareness, and the power of sharing truth, laughter, and support.

  • Bared to You

Bared to You by Sylvia Day

Bared to You by Sylvia Day is $2.99! This is an erotic romance and the first in a series that follows the same couple. Day’s books are rarely on sale, so snap this up while you can. Many readers compare this book to Fifty Shades of Grey. Some say it’s better; some say it’s worse. But how you feel about this book may depend on how much you enjoyed Fifty Shades of Grey.

    Our journey began in fire…

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness—beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds… and desires.

  • Water Bound

    Water Bound by Christine Feehan

Water Bound by Christine Feehan is $2.99! This is a paranormal romance with heroine on the autism spectrum, who has a magical connection to the ocean, and a man on the run. There’s also amnesia! Some readers thought it was a bit slow and the book could have been shorter. However, others really loved the characterization of the hero and heroine. Have you read this one? What did you think?

Christine Feehan’s #1 New York Times bestselling Hidden Currents may have closed the Drake Sisters saga—which “brought paranormal romance to a new high”*—but it has opened the door to an all-new series of startling magic, mystery, and the soul-stirring elements of nature…

The last thing Lev Prakenskii remembered was being lost in the swirling currents of the ocean and getting sucked deeper into the nothingness of a freezing black eddy off the coastal town of Sea Haven. Just as quickly, just a miraculously, he was saved—pulled ashore by a beautiful stranger. But Lev has no memory of who he is—or why he seems to possess the violent instincts of a trained killer. All he knows is that he fears for his life, and for the life of his unexpected savior.

Her name is Rikki, a sea~urchin diver in Sea Haven. She has always felt an affinity for the ocean, and for the seductive pull of the tides. And now she feels drawn in the same way to the enigmatic man she rescued. But soon they will be bound by something even stronger, and their tantalizing secrets will engulf them both in a whirlpool of dizzying passion and inescapable danger.

  1. Varian says:

Water Bound is one of my favorite romances! Rikki is a wonderful heroine, and I *love* that her autism isn’t “cured” at the end, and that her family accepts her for who she is.

I tried reading Bared to You, but even for an erotic romance, there was just way too much sex that got repetitive quickly.

  2. Anne says:

    I loved Wrecked.

  3. Kit says:

I have tried to read “Bared to you” but got bored half way through, so DNF for me. Although the heroine was a bit more fleshed out than in fifty shades. Have downloaded a sample of Water bound but it isn’t reduced over here in the UK

  4. Michelle says:

Wrecked was okay, but I actually liked the second book, Razed, more.

Christine Feehan has a LOT of REALLY questionable books. Consent issues, caveman heroes that go too far—to an abusive point, rigid rigid gender roles, doormat heroines, waaaaay too much repetition, lots and lots of characters who have been severely abused. They can also be just plain boring. Don’t ask why I’ve read so many. I can’t explain it.

However, Water Bound is pretty free from these problems. Lev and Rikki are kind to each other, and RIkki’s autism isn’t magically cured. So if you’re interested but wary because you’ve had problems with Feehan, IMO, this book is reasonably safe.

  5. Kit says:

@Michelle agree with Feehan issues as I hated dark Prince but only read excerpt. I tend do read samples before trying new authors or series, I’ve been stuck with books I can’t finish many a time. Having said that it’s not foolproof, some authors postpone the crazy for the post sample material!

  6. Lisa F says:

    I miss Feehan’s non-Carpathian novels so much.

  7. Lisa F says:

@Michelle – Yep, this is my problem with her work!

  8. WS says:

Feehan’s trying to trademark “Dark” and “Carpathian” (Also “leopard”, and others). I loathe people who try to trademark common words, so will not be buying her books, even at this price.
