Links: Bookstore Romance Day, Skunks, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. Are you ready for Wednesday Links? Are you also as tired as I am? I don’t know what it is about August, but I’m cranky, have zero patience, and just want to nap. Thankfully, the boyfriend is taking me on a relaxing reading weekend next weekend where I will do at little socializing as possible.

If you loved Ruby Lang’s Playing House or Aarya’s wonderful review of it, you might also enjoy her interview with fellow author Avery Flynn.

Join in on the Summer Suffrage Challenge! The Library of Congress is looking for volunteers to transcribe personal papers and letters from the suffrage movement. It’s a great way to both geek out about history and do some good.

Saturday, August 17 is the first Bookstore Romance Day! You can visit the website to see which of your local bookstores are participating.

If you’re in New England, I will be at Belmont Books on Saturday afternoon to chat romance and giving you all the personalized recommendations you need. Come say hi!

Podcast news! A romance book club podcast will be launching soon on the site, but we need your help! We want you all to be part of the discussion for each episode. Episode one will be on a few Jennifer Crusie titles and episode two will be a Lisa Kleypas Wallflower thunderdome. If you want to share your thoughts, you can find Google Forms for each episode here.

Sometimes we all need a little cuteness, especially if it comes in the form of a family of curious skunks.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Oh that Belmont Books thing looks very cool. I know I’m trying to get to the Romance event at Harvard bookstore and might try to stop by at this. It depends how quickly my eye appointment goes that day, so much happening.

I love that skunk video so much I’ve had it saved to my hd for years. Remember to turn your sound up! Their little chatter is the cutest part for me–they have the grumpiest little squeaks, so adorable yet so judgy

That is one brave cyclist. On my way to the bus stop I almost walked right into my neighborhood skunk. I backed up so quickly giving it all the room and right away. I even took my phone out to call my boss that I’d catch the next bus, but luckily it decided to amble on its way.

So yesterday my happy was vegging out away from the heat while watching 5 eps of the fusion sageuk Rookie Historian Gu Hae ryung on Netflix. The heroine is the rookie Historian while her hero is a Prince who writes romance novels as a way to stay busy. He is living in isolation inside the palace. She thinks romance is a waste of precious paper. I like that so far she is the more practical and pragmatic one and he the dreamer. Anyway their is a lot more to the story that is super fun, but also interesting to see how the historians did their jobs.

The skunk video was the highlight of my day! Who knew?! Thank you.

The skunk video! I loved the sounds the skunks made. As JJB said, adorable yet so judgy. “No food here, let’s go now.”

The independent bookstore where I attended author events when I lived in the city is celebrating Bookstore Romance big time on Saturday. Hmmm. Is it worth an hour-plus drive to pose for a selfie with a life-size Fabio cutout? 🙂

I love that skunk video – thank you for sharing! They’re such curious and lively animals and so cute that I wish they weren’t such stinky buggers.

I remember one summer at camp that a staff member (who happened to be a vet tech student) found a nest of several-week-old babies with the mama dead nearby, so she collected them in a box to give them to the local wildlife shelter. A few of us got the chance to play with them and feed them a bit before the shelter collected them; the kits were so adorable, social, and chatty – and unscented! We knew their lack of stank was only temporary until their scent glands matured, but they were fun to play with for a few hours.

@EC Spurlock – I came here to post the Chuck Tingle / Rothfuss crossover too! Somehow missed it last week and it made my Monday.
