Books On Sale

Treasure Hunting, Dukes, & More

NB: This is my last day of holiday travel and I’m so ready to be home with my cat. Hopefully, all of these books are still one sale. If not, I apologize for any inconvenience.

  • The Unleashing

    The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston

RECOMMENDED: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! Yeah, you’re reading that right. If you were at RT a couple years ago, Sarah squeed about this so hard, so thanks to everyone who told us about this sale. And she did a little drive by squee during a review for the second book, The Undoing:

Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)

    WINGING IT

Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstöm has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

  • Solomon’s Seal

Solomon’s Seal by Sklya Dawn Cameron

Solomon’s Seal by Skyla Dawn Cameron is 99c! Bitchery member and commenter, Ren Benton has been singing the praises of this serious in the comments for a while now. And I bought it because of Ren. Here’s what Ren had to say in the comments of our Personal Faves of 2018 post:

Tomb Raider-esque heroine with a strong found family theme and a back-burner romance I want to happen but don’t want to overtake everything else. It struck the perfect adventure/emotion balance for me, and I—a person who is not wild about series, to put it mildly—can’t wait to see what happens next.

    Thanks for the rec, Ren!

    EX-DEBUTANTE. SINGLE MOTHER. TREASURE HUNTER.

Disowned and left penniless for getting pregnant as a teen, former celebutante Olivia Talbot was willing to do whatever it took to provide for her daughter…including become a treasure hunter. After the Pulse hit, activating relics of legend, there are plenty of artifacts to be had—not to mention wealthy clients willing to pay top dollar for them.

Just as her daughter’s private school tuition cheque bounces, Livi gets an offer that could be the break she needs to return to some semblance of her former life. A powerful man wants her to travel to Ethiopia and retrieve the Seal of Solomon—a mythical ring said to control demons and djinn—and this bounty comes with one hell of a financial pay off.

The deadline: a week. The team: unreliable. The competition: her world-renowned archaeologist older brother. Nothing Livi can’t handle… Except the danger goes beyond a few subterranean serpent-dragons she might encounter or tangling with her employer’s deadly second-in-command. This client isn’t all he seems, and handing him the ring might be worse than what he’ll do to her—and her daughter—if she doesn’t.

  • Need You Now

Need You Now by Nicole Helm

Need You Now by Nicole Helm is 99c! This is the first book in the Mile High Romance series. It’s a contemporary romance with opposites attract elements. If you like outdoorsy, Helm writes a lot of great ones. Readers seem divided on the hero. Some loved his grump nature, while others thought his grumpiness bordered on sad and rude.

    He’s mountain-tough. She’s city-smart. The sparks are about to fly . . .

Only the most resilient of souls could breathe new life into an all-but-forgotten town nestled in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains—but what they get in return might be worth the heartache it takes to make it happen . . .

Gracely, Colorado, was once a booming mining town. No one knows that better than Brandon Evans. His father’s company kept the town thriving for years—until Brandon threatened to expose his illegal practices and drove him away. Everyone blames Brandon and his brother for turning Gracely into a ghost town—but the tenacious residents cling to a long-held legend about the land’s healing powers. And Brandon has a plan to spin that legend into reality . . .

Lilly Preston took a leap of faith and moved to Gracely a year ago to save her nephew from an abusive situation. She would do anything for him, even sacrifice her glamorous job. Reluctantly, the former PR hot shot takes a job at the ruggedly handsome Evans brothers’ Mile High Adventures, a company offering restorative Rocky Mountain vacations.

Brandon thinks PR is pointless, and Lilly knows less than nothing about the outdoors. Which is exactly why they need each other—in ways neither ever imagined . . .

  • The Most Dangerous Duke in London

The Most Dangerous Duke in London by Madeline Hunter

The Most Dangerous Duke in London by Madeline Hunter is $1.99! This is book one in the Decadent Dukes Society series. The hero wants revenge and the heroine just wants to go about publishing her women’s journal. Readers like the enemies to lovers aspect of the romance, but others wouldn’t recommend this one on audio as the narrator didn’t fit for them.

Three sinfully handsome dukes, three scores to settle, three hearts about to meet their matches. All in one thrilling new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Madeline Hunter . . .

    NOTORIOUS NOBLEMAN SEEKS REVENGE
Name and title: Adam Penrose, Duke of Stratton.
Affiliation: London’s elite Society of Decadent Dukes.
    Family history: Scandalous.
Personality traits: Dark and brooding, with a thirst for revenge.
Ideal romantic partner: A woman of means, with beauty and brains, willing to live with reckless abandon.
Desire: Clara Cheswick, gorgeous daughter of his family’s sworn enemy.

FAINT OF HEART NEED NOT APPLY
Clara may be the woman Adam wants, but there’s one problem: she’s far more interested in publishing her women’s journal than getting married—especially to a man said to be dead-set on vengeance. Though, with her nose for a story, Clara wonders if his desire for justice is sincere—along with his incredibly unnerving intention to be her husband. If her weak-kneed response to his kiss is any indication, falling for Adam clearly comes with a cost. But who knew courting danger could be such exhilarating fun?

  1. Ren Benton says:

THE IMPOSSIBLE GIRL by Lydia Kang is $1.99. Amazon only (sorry), but in KU for those who subscribe. Cross-dressing half-Chinese resurrectionist in 1850s Manhattan with a shady love interest (??? — I started reading last night and don’t hate him yet but also have thought he’s probably a serial killer, so…) and a bunch of murders.

SUBHUMAN and FORSAKEN by Michael McBride are each $1.99. Rich dude who’s a dead ringer for Jurassic Park Grandpa puts together an Antarctic expedition to wake up aliens that shoulda been left asleep (as Jeff Goldblum would no doubt emphatically assert). The kind of pacing, action sequences, and buckets of blood you’d find in a big-budget creature horror movie, should that suit your mood. (I can’t remember the last time I felt warm and cuddly, and my reading for the past while has reflected that.)

  2. Marci says:

G.A. Aiken has a bundle of 4 of her Dragon shifter novels for $2.99 on Amazon. I think they can be read as stand alone novels but they do bring back characters from earlier books in the series.

  3. Maureen says:

If you haven’t read The Unleashing, for this price, please try it! This isn’t a genre I had been into before, but this author got me hooked. The female power for this series is really incredible, and the romance is hot. I’ve read all of Laurenston since this first book, and I LOVE her!

The great thing about SBTB is that is has exposed me to so many books, genres-I never would have read before. Not only the blog reviews, but the commenters have lead me down a merry trail of happy reading.

  4. Stefka says:

While checking my iBooks wish list I discovered that A Princess in Theory (Alyssa Cole) is 1.99 — clicked BUY so fast!!! Hopefully it’s matched on other sites?

Debating whether to dip my toe in the Shelly Laurenston world with Unleashed…?

Oh yeah, and I picked up this Madeline Hunter (The Most Dangerous Duke in London) — I’ve read much of her backlist, but this is a new series for me. FYI, the second book (A Devil of a Duke) is also priced at 1.99. THANKS, SBTB!!

  5. Stefka says:

P.S. Anyone else spending New Year’s Eve hunkered down with cat(s) and a good book??

  6. Jill-Marie says:

A couple of comments on “The Unleashing” mention a lot of graphic violence. Yeah, no, not into that(I just can’t watch “Dexter,” “Game of Thrones” or horror). So can the Bitchery tell me if the violence quotient is high? Thanks!

  7. Susan says:

Right there with you @Stefka, but I switched over to NASA’s livestream of New Horizons’ flyby of Ultima Thule. (Then returned to cat livestreams and a book.) 🙂

On another note, I guess I’m the only one who didn’t love The Unleashing, despite being a Laurenston fan.

  8. Ren Benton says:

@Susan: I thought it would have been better without the entire “romance.” *shrug* No such thing as a universally beloved book, no matter how it looks on the internet. Observing “don’t yuck on someone else’s yum” in a community setting leaves a lot unsaid where the most people would see it, but it doesn’t mean you’re alone in not being wowed.

  9. Kati says:

Solomon’s Seal was a definite one click today. It sounds like a great escapism book.

  10. Okay, the description of Solomon’s Seal got me. I was willing to plunk down 99 cents for that. 😀

And given that I’m starting the new year fighting off a cold, it sounds like about my speed at the moment!

  11. […] Seal, by Skyla Dawn Cameron. Saw this one talked up on the Smart Bitches site in a roundup of ebook sales. And it sounds like potential Big Silly Fun, for which I’m […]
