  • The Problem with Forever

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout

RITA READER RECOMMENDED: The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout is $2.99! This was nominated for a RITA last year and Reviewer Coco gave it an A-

I hadn’t read the book—as YA isn’t normally my happy place within the romance genre, despite the odd fact that I reviewed another YA RITA earlier this year—but I thought it’d be fun, and then life happened, and it didn’t go quite according to plan. Instead of a leisurely full seven days to read and write a simple review, I, of course, didn’t get the time to do it until two days ago. Luckily, reading it quickly wasn’t a problem as I was drawn into the story by the midpoint and raced to finish it.

For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.

Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.

  • The Theory of Attraction

The Theory of Attraction by Delphine Dryden

RECOMMENDED: The Theory of Attraction by Delphine Dryden is $1.99! Sarah really enjoyed this book, and this series, and if you like contemporary BDSM erotic romance with very thoughtful characters, you’ll probably like this. Sarah read this book and said:

I’m really finicky when it comes to erotic romance, especially romance with BDSM, and I thought this story was an excellent blend of erotic tension and character development. Plus the hero is really fascinating. This is a terrific… read – I hope you’ll give it a try.

Camilla can set her watch by her hunky rocket-scientist neighbor who jogs past her window each day. She relishes each glimpse of his shirtless abs, and is dying to see more. But it’s hard to connect with a man who doesn’t seem to know she exists…

Ivan feels at home in the lab, not in social situations. When he finally approaches his attractive neighbor, it’s not for a date—he wants tutoring in how to behave at an important fundraiser. Ivan doesn’t expect the chemistry between them to be quite so explosive, and is surprised when Cami actually accepts his proposal to embark on a series of “lessons.”

Cami soon discovers Ivan’s schedule isn’t the only thing he likes to be strict about—he needs to be charge in the bedroom as well. She’s shocked at how much she comes to enjoy her submissive side, but wonders if a real relationship is in the equation…

  • Unleashing Mr. Darcy

Unleashing Mr. Darcy by Teri Wilson

Unleashing Mr. Darcy by Teri Wilson is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance/women’s fiction with Pride & Prejudice elements. In this one, Mr. Darcy is a famous dog breeder. This book was also turned into a Hallmark movie. If you’ve watched it, let me know your thoughts on it! Readers loved the dog breeding aspect, but warn this might not be for Austen diehards.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman teetering on the verge of thirty must be in want of a husband.

Not true for Manhattanite Elizabeth Scott. Instead of planning a walk down the aisle, she’s crossing the pond with the only companion she needs; her darling dog, Bliss. Caring for a pack of show dogs in England seems the perfect distraction from the scandal that ruined her teaching career, and her reputation, in New York. What she doesn’t count on is an unstoppable attraction to billionaire dog breeder Donovan Darcy. The London tycoon’s a little bit arrogant, a whole lot sexy, and the chemistry between them is disarming. When passion is finally unleashed, might Elizabeth hope to take home more than a blue ribbon?

  • Running the Red Light

Running the Red Light by Kelsey Browning

Running the Red Light by Kelsey Browning is 99c! This is the second book in the Texas Nights series, but it can be read as a standalone. The romance features a stuffy hero and a heroine running a lingerie shop in a small town. Readers love the opposites attract elements, though some felt everything was a bit over the top.

After wearing a “Least Likely to Succeed” label all her life, Roxanne Eberly is hell-bent on making her Red Light Lingerie store successful. Although the residents of small-town Shelbyville, Texas, are a little…lingerie-resistant, she’ll win them over eventually. So when a former employer sues her, putting a major wrinkle in her careful plans, she reluctantly accepts help from hot-stuff Houston attorney Jamie Wright.

Jamie’s on track to become his firm’s youngest partner, but discovers an unwritten prerequisite—marriage. Turns out, the only woman he wants is Roxanne, but peddling thongs and sex toys isn’t a suitable career for the spouse of an up-and-coming attorney.

Jamie’s tangled up in Roxanne’s lawsuit, her life and her lingerie. But if they’re ever going to make it work, Roxanne’s big-city boy will have to decide what he values more: the career he always thought he wanted or the woman he never thought he’d fall for.

  1. Liz says:

I hate to admit I’ve seen the Hallmark movie. Meh… There were cute puppies in it and that was the best part!

  2. Olivia says:

The Theory of Attraction is actually $1.99

  3. Ren Benton says:

I haven’t seen that particular Hallmark movie, but my mother has the channel on pretty much nonstop, and it occurred to me yesterday that for all they’re supposed to be pure and wholesome, I can’t remember the last one I saw that didn’t involve breaking up an engagement. There was one a while ago that took place ON THE WEDDING DAY and the heroine fell in love with THE GROOM’S BROTHER.

“Tonight on the Hallmark Channel, our trademark broken promises, now with a soupçon of incest-adjacent romance!” Who approved this branding?!

  4. Cat C says:

I loved the prequel to the Running the Red Light book, Personal Assets by Kelsey Browning. Sex therapist heroine!

  5. Peggy says:

    On sale at Amazon today:

There’s This Guy by Rhys Ford, $.99 (m/m romance)

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire, $2.99 (2017 Hugo Award)

  6. LauraL says:

“Unleashing Mr. Darcy” is one of my Hallmark favorites even if the dog show details aren’t the most realistic. I enjoyed the movie so much I bought it on DVD. Many, many warm memories of watching the cute puppies with the late, great elderly Poodle while recovering after a bad day at work. I’ve been waiting for the book to go on sale, so off to Amazon.

  7. Katie Lynn says:

Theory of Attraction is fantastic. So, so good. The follow-ups in the series are great as well.

  8. Lisa says:

The Hallmark “Unleashing Mr. Darcy” was great. I just started the book and it was terrible. I angry-stopped reading it when Elizabeth was upset so she said something that angered Darcy and his thoughts were that if he didn’t know she was acting out because she was upset, he would have spanked her on the spot. WTF.

It was very poorly written with a lot of sexist undertones. However, the movie is great!

  9. Pamala says:

@Lisa, thank you for the tip. I was curious about Unleashing Mr. Darcy but I’m also fresh off watching Before the Fall, which is suppose to be a M/M Pride and Prejudice-based movie on Amazon and it was trash. So, my heart can’t take any more awful Austen variations, lol.

  10. Rebecca says:

I loved Unleashing Mr Darcy! Haven’t seen the movie, but the book is completely charming. And as a lover of Jane Austen, I approve of this modern retelling.

  11. cleo says:

I love Delphine Dryden – she writes bdsm romances with hot sex, excellent consent and clear communication in a range of pairings / groupings.

I think this series is all m/f but she has other series that are f/f and m/f/f – and I believe she identifies as bi/ queer so they’re #ownvoices.

  12. Gigi says:

The Problem with Forever was that it went on forever. I skimmed a great deal and missed nothing. Glacial pace doesn’t begin to describe it.

  13. harthad says:

Honest to goodness, what is up with the cover for Theory of Attraction? I cannot figure out what body part he is licking. Did her stomach sprout an arm? Or do her legs start at her ribcage?

  14. hng23 says:

@harthad Me too! Every time I see that cover I think the same thing. Definitely a contender for Cover Snark!

  15. Re: Mr Darcy–Did she have to visit her beloved dog in quarantine for four months or has England changed their policy [or did the book/movie skip that bit]?

  16. kitkat9000 says:

Ok, am I the only one who finds the premise of this Austen rip-off unusually preposterous? Britain has some of, if not the most, strictest animal import quarantine requirements anywhere to be found. How is this addressed?

  17. kitkat9000 says:

    PS: Authors please note-

    *ENOUGH WITH THE BILLIONAIRES ALREADY!*

Ahem, I’ll step down off my soapbox now…

  18. Jen says:

Kitkat, if people stopped buying them, authors would stop writing them — promise!

  19. kitkat9000 says:

@Jen: I already have, just wish more would follow.

BTW, I swear when posting originally the first comment regarding animal quarantine wasn’t there. But, to that end, no one who has commented about that and I remain curious.

  20. Jill-Marie says:

A friend said she was watching “Unleashing Mr. Darcy,” so as a fellow dog addict, I had to, too. It was … fine. I could see elements of “P and P” in it, but it wasn’t — at least to me — a true rehash.

As LauraL said, the dog show details aren’t even remotely in the ring (ha! see what I did there?) of believable, but Dog knows I’ve endured worse horse movies. Many, many of them.

So, lite, fun froth that will keep you and your dog(s) company on a chilly evening.

  21. Jill-Marie says:

Oh … and re the quarantine: The movie took place all the U.S., so no pesky quarantine needed. Don’t know about the book, though.

  22. Thank you, Jill-Marie. I am sure @kitkat9000 thanks you, as well since we both were bothered by that detail!
