Links: Alyssa Cole, ’80s Portraits, & Western Romances

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Hey! It’s Wednesday Links! We’ve found some really fun stuff this week to help get you through that midweek slump! Let’s get started, shall we?

If you missed Sarah’s Slayer of Words announcement, we’re partnering up with Beverly Jenkins to release commemorative shirts and other items:

All proceeds will be donated to the charity of Ms. Bev’s choosing, Doctors Without Borders.

I (Sarah) will be reporting the profit and donation from the sale of these two items quarterly as part of the SBTB Business Update.

And, by popular demand, there’s now a mug too! You can go right to the shop here!

Alyssa Cole has a new contemporary romance series coming out and Cosmopolitan has an excerpt and cover reveal. Trust us, you’re going to want to see it:

We’ve all gotten a spam email or a two from someone claiming to be a prince, but what if the person sending the emails really was a prince? And what if you were engaged to him? Thus begins Alyssa Cole’s new romance A Princess in Theory, the first book in her upcoming Reluctant Royals series. Grad student Naledi Smith keeps receiving emails from someone named Thabiso, claiming that he’s (1) heir to throne of Thesolo and (2) her betrothed. When Naledi meets Thabiso in real life, she mistakes him for someone less royal and he goes along with it. Will their romance survive when the truth comes out? Read on for an excerpt from A Princess in Theory (out February 27, 2018), and check out the exclusive cover reveal above.

AHHH! That cover! That color palette!

Miniature charge cables

These mini cables are terrific for keeping in your bag to plug in your battery backup. They're 5" long and don't take up any room or get tangled, and they weigh nothing. There is an Android set and an iPhone set.

Want a chance to help an organization and get a romance novel in the process?

Sourcebooks Casablanca has launched their Save a Horse, Read a Cowboy campaign! They’ve partnered up with Hickory Hill Farm, a rescue organization hat provides rescue and rehabilitative care to equine and livestock animals. They’re asking readers to donate any amount to Hickory Hill Farm to help save animals, and as a thank you, you’ll get one of six ebooks for free.

I love this idea and I hope they raise a lot of money for those gorgeous animals.

Need a bit of a laugh? At San Diego Comic-Con, Buzzfeed asked celebrities to re-create ’80s portraits. Who’s your favorite? I feel like David Anders really went for it.

Lastly, you need to read this Twitter thread!

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Don’t miss a thing with Daily SBTB updates!

That twitter thread was 100% worth my time. Thank you.

This could be the greatest bad song of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8pknnncODo

“I already have a favorite pen, and I prefer scribbling to erasing, so I don’t nee–BUT IT COMES IN A THREE-PACK WITH GREEN, PURPLE, AND TURQUOISE!!!!!!!”

    I don’t have a problem. I can stop any time I want.

  5. DonnaMarie says:

@Jul ia, thank you. That dress is gorgeous, and I need something for a wedding.

Does anyone else see dresses on a book cover and wish a source was given in the cover credit? There have been a few Julie James covers that have given me the want it bads.
    It’s just me, isn’t it?

  6. Helen says:

Two of the six ladies from the twitter thread thing were interviewed on CBC (Canadian) radio yesterday evening, caught it accidentally, but it was an interesting interview. Probably occurs more than we realise in this day and age, and actually (not to make excuses) it made me think it was not that different to speed dating, except the ladies did not know that was what was going on when they set it all up

  7. cleo says:

OMG, good for Alyssa Cole. I seriously feel really proprietary about her success because I started reading her in like 2014 and it’s very rare for me to get in on the ground floor of anything. Go Alyssa.

  8. Emily C says:

I have like zero interest in contemporary royalty tropes normally, but I’m all in for this one (maybe because Alyssa Cole is Awesome?!).

  9. Jennifer in GA says:

All the dresses in that Etsy shop are GORGEOUS.

  10. Erin says:

When Naledi meets Thabiso in real life, she mistakes him for someone less royal and he goes along with it. Will their romance survive when the truth comes out?

    This is my catnip!

  11. Sue C says:

Oh my godddd, that Alyssa Cole book. I’m so excited. It’s like Coming to America plus Nigerian prince email spam plus ROMANCE NOVEL. But. It’s cruel to tell us about it when it doesn’t get released until February 2018. Cruel.

  12. LauraL says:

Just donated to Hickory Hill Farm and am off to get a cowboy book. Wish I was closer so I could volunteer (and take Vito home to be mine, mine, mine). I’ve seen the healing magic of animals through my pet-assisted therapy work.
