Fantasy Romance, Romantic Suspense, & More!

  • Rising Fire

    Rising Fire by Terri Brisbin

Rising Fire by Terri Brisbin is $2.99! This fantasy romance is the first book in the Stone Circles series. The hero is sent to “vanquish” the heroine’s fire abilities, so there’s an enemies to lovers element that readers really loved. However, others felt the heroine bordered on TSTL (too stupid to live). But! Reviewers also mentioned the series gets better with each book.

What if the standing stones and stone circles across the old Celtic world had a secret origin and use? What if some opened into another world? What if the goddess of fire was trapped beneath one?

Lovely and innocent, Brienne of Yester has always been able to manipulate fire, but when her powers suddenly surge, the simple life she once knew explodes.

Handsome, fearless, and commanding, William de Brus has been summoned by the king to investigate a nobleman rumored to have powers linked to the fabled fire goddess. When he chances upon Brienne, his desire for her is immediate. But as his mystical quest unfolds, William realizes that she is at the center of it — for Brienne possesses the very power he has been sent to vanquish….

As their attraction deepens, William attempts to free Brienne from the dark force beginning to control her — even when his duty demands that he treat her as an enemy. With emotions flaring, fire rising, and evil threatening at every turn, can the two lovers survive the coming battle and save all of humanity?

  • The Darkest Hour

The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks

The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks is $2.99! This romantic suspense features a married couple, a Navy SEAL hero, and amnesia. It’s also the first book in the KGI series. Readers were totally onboard for the premise of this romance, but some felt the hero was a bit suffocating during the heroine’s recovery. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

It’s been one year since ex-Navy SEAL Ethan Kelly last saw his wife Rachel alive. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt over his failures as a husband, Ethan shuts himself off from everything and everyone.

His brothers have tried to bring Ethan into the KGI fold, tried to break through the barriers he’s built around himself, but Ethan refuses to respond… until he receives anonymous information claiming Rachel is alive.

To save her, Ethan will have to dodge bullets, cross a jungle, and risk falling captive to a deadly drug cartel that threatens his own demise. And even if he succeeds, he’ll have to force Rachel to recover memories she can’t and doesn’t want to relive—the minute by minute terror of her darkest hour—for their love, and their lives, may depend on it.

  • A Thousand Pieces of You

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray is $1.99! This is a YA time travel novel and I was really excited about this title back in November 2014 when we featured it on Hide Your Wallet. However, other readers (including my roommate) mention that the plot and action gets lost in favor of a love triangle. It’s the first book in the Firebird series.

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores a reality where we witness the countless other lives we might lead in an amazingly intricate multiverse, and ask whether, amid infinite possibilities, one love can endure.

  1. I didn’t see the love triangle coming in A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU, but loved the way it involved and the overall character dynamics throughout the book.

Though, like Amanda, I’ve rec’d this book a dozen times, because I glommed it.

  2. Allison says:

“Hyperion” by Dan Simmons is on sale at Kindle for $1.99. This isn’t a traditional romance novel, although three of the six interlinked stories involve romantic relationships. The novel won both the Hugo and Locus awards in 1990 and it still one of the best SF novels I have ever read.

  3. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

Crap! I missed out on a bingo with the Ripped Bodice summer reading challenge without the “heroine named Rachel” square. The Darkest Hour is one day too late!

  4. drewbird says:

Star of the Morning is AMAZING and Morgan and Miach are one of my all time favorite couples. Mostly because Miach is one of my top 5 favorite Heroes ever. If you like swordswomen, and men who respect and admire them, plus magic and humor and elves and shit you should give it a try. Fair warning though – book 1 ends on a big cliff hanger – you will want to have book 2 at the ready.

  5. Kayla says:

Lynn Kurland’s Nine Kingdoms series is one of my major comfort/escape reads and an auto buy in both electronic and paper versions (which is an honor I grant to very few series).

  6. Hazel says:

Another plug for Hyperion: top quality sci-fi and a steal at that price!
