FBI Agents, Steampunk, & Paranormal Romance

  • Single Malt

    Single Malt by Layla Reyne

Single Malt by Layla Reyne is 99c! This is a gay romantic suspense novel with an age difference and a workplace romance. Hello catnip! I will warn that there appears to be a cliffhanger in this book, but the next one is available for $3.99. Reviewers had mostly good things to say about the pacing and characterization, and it has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

    The heart’s a resilient beast

Eight months after the car crash that changed everything, FBI agent Aidan Talley is back at work. New department, new case and a new partner. Smart, athletic and handsome, Jameson Walker is twelve years his junior. Even if Aidan was ready to move on—and he’s not—Jamie is off-limits.

Jamie’s lusted after Aidan for three years, and the chance to work with San Francisco’s top agent directly is too good to pass up. Aidan is prickly—to put it mildly—but a growing cyber threat soon proves Jamie’s skills invaluable.

Jamie’s talents paint a target on his back, and Aidan is determined to protect him. But with hack after hack threatening a high-security biocontainment facility, time is running out to thwart a deadly terrorist attack. They’ll have to filter out distractions, on the case and in their partnership, to identify the real enemy, solve the case and save thousands of lives, including their own.

  • Haunted by Your Touch

Haunted by Your Touch by Jeaniene Frost

Haunted by Your Touch by Jeaniene Frost, Sharie Kohler, and Shayla Black is $1.99! This is a paranormal romance anthology, featuring three different romances. Because of the stories’ length, some readers mention that the character development is slim and the amount of sex is high. However, several readers say that Kohler’s story is definitely the standout.

USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost seduces readers into a forbidden new world as she teams up with romance stars Shayla Black and Sharie Kohler for a sizzling collection of original novellas featuring fallen angels, anarchistic demons, warrior wizards, and irresistibly dangerous creatures of the night.

Enter the dark realm of Nocturna in Jeaniene Frost’s redhot tale, where blisteringly sexy Raphael dominates the demons of a lawless dimension and tries to help a beautiful young woman avenge her cousin’s disappearance.

In the shadowy world of Shayla Black’s Doomsday Brethren, magical warrior Raiden vows to protect his woman and their unborn youngling from evil—and deliver her safely to another man. But once he’s saved her, can he let her go?

Lycans rule the night in Sharie Kohler’s suspenseful story, as a fiery woman stalks mysterious Luc, the undeniably hypnotic being she believes can save her from turning . . . if she kills him. Danger beckons in these captivating paranormal tales that will tempt readers to the edge and leave them begging for more.

  • Disenchanted & Co.

Disenchanted & Co. by Lynn Viehl

Disenchanted & Co. by Lynn Viehl is $1.99! This is a steampunk romance novel and it seems that it has a hint of a love triangle. However, I’m not sure how involved the triangle is. Readers loved the mystery and adventure aspects of the book. However, some readers mention a bit of dubious consent. Mfred’s review on Goodreads goes in-depth on the scene, if you want more information.

In the Provincial Union of Victoriana, a steampunk America that lost the Revolutionary War, Charmian “Kit” Kittredge makes her living investigating crimes of magic. While Kit tries to avoid the nobs of high society, she follows mysteries wherever they lead.

Unlike most folks, Kit doesn’t believe in magic, but she can’t refuse to help Lady Diana Walsh, who claims a curse is viciously wounding her while she sleeps. As Kit investigates the Walsh family, she becomes convinced that the attacks are part of a more ominous plot—one that may involve the lady’s obnoxious husband.

Sleuthing in the city of Rumsen is difficult enough, but soon Kit must also skirt the unwanted attentions of a nefarious deathmage and the unwelcome scrutiny of the police chief inspector. Unwilling to surrender to either man’s passion for her, Kit struggles to remain independent as she draws closer to the heart of the mystery. For the truth promises to ruin her life—and turn Rumsen into a supernatural battleground from which no one will escape alive.

  • Romancing the Inventor

Romancing the Inventor by Gail Carriger

Romancing the Inventor by Gail Carriger is $2.99 at Amazon! This is a standalone lesbian romance novella with steampunk vibes. Readers loved how fun and snarky the novella was, but others didn’t really warm up to Genevieve, one of the heroines. Amazon also has another Carriger novella on sale, if you’re interested.

Imogene Hale is a lowly parlourmaid with a soul-crushing secret. Seeking solace, she takes work at a local hive, only to fall desperately in love with the amazing lady inventor the vampires are keeping in the potting shed. Genevieve Lefoux is heartsick, lonely, and French. With culture, class, and the lady herself set against the match, can Imogene and her duster overcome all odds and win Genevieve’s heart, or will the vampires suck both of them dry?

This is a stand-alone LBGTQ sweet romance set in Gail Carriger’s Parasolverse, full of class prejudice, elusive equations, and paranormal creatures taking tea.

    Delicate Sensibilities?
This story contains women pleasing women and ladies who know what they want and pursue it, sometimes in exquisite detail.

  1. Jaclyn says:

Single Malt was recc’d by someone at the reader rec party at RT this year! It took me ages to decipher my hastily scribbled notes “TINGLE MALT?! Jingle Mart?” Hey, at least I now know what to call my Christmas themed novel– 0 results for either on Goodreads.

  2. Mikaela says:

I remember that Lynn Viehl book! Sadly I remember it because it made me want to throw my e-reader. The reason? It was originally published in two parts, and the ending of the first book was abrupt, to me it felt like they reached the halfway point and simply cut it in two. I also remember that I didn’t like the heroine.

  3. Kareni says:

Dark Horse (Class 5 Series Book 1) by Michelle Diener is currently free for Kindle readers. It’s an enjoyable science fiction romance.

  4. Katie C. says:

As an update to those who are monitoring the Amazon sort by price Wish List option – I received two emails from Amazon – one stating that sort by price will be back in August and a later email stating that it will be back in a few weeks, so hopefully we will see those options back sooner rather than later!

  5. Jennifer in GA says:

I’m fairly sure those are the regular prices in the Carriger novellas.

  6. Caitlin says:

Going to echo Jennifer—I think these are the normal prices for the Carriger pieces. Which is not to say you shouldn’t check them out, because you totes should!

  7. Ren Benton says:

@Mikaela: I was so peeved about that “half a book” crap, I never bothered with the other half. Presuming I have a need for closure never ends well for the other party.

  8. Mara says:

I read the Jeaniene Frost novella from the “Haunted by Your Touch” collection… IMO, it’s a solid paranormal romance novella. Pretty developed world, considering the word count

  9. Gillian B says:

I would like to state that I was recently given “Romancing the Inventor” by a friend, and passed it to an 11 year old friend who is into steampunk and starting to get into romance. (With the enthusiastic permission of her mother, who is thrilled that there’s a YA level non-het suitable romance).

  10. Jennifer in GA says:

Gillian B- Carriger has a Steampunk YA series called the Finishing School series and it is SO GOOD. It’s romance-lite- there is *some* romance, but mostly it’s Victorian teenage girls kicking ass learning to be spies and assassins. Young Lefoux is in the series, too. I HIGHLY recommend it!
