Links: Double Dare, Chuck Tingle, and a Survey

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. For me, this year is one of the most stressful times, and I’m sure there are others out there who agree with me. Hopefully, these links will give you a few moments of peace in an otherwise crazy time. And for our US readers, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Double Dare gives me huge waves of childhood nostalgia, but it anyone was wondering what being on set with that frightening obstacle course was really like, the A.V. Club has a great behind the scenes interview:

We tried [to do poop-related obstacles] but they were not allowed. We couldn’t show a butt, but we could do a mouth. We could do a nose. We even got turned down for an armpit at one point in time. I’m still not even sure why.

Can you imagine what would have happened if the could do a poop-related obstacle course?

If you’re in the New York area, NYU libraries is doing a screening of Love Between the Covers on December 8th. After the screening, there will be a discussion with filmmaker Laurie Kahn with authors Sarah MacLean and Maya Rodale!

Omnivoracious: The Amazon Book Review polled eight contemporary romance authors for some of the best romances they read this year:

Eight stars in contemporary romance took the time out of their busy writing schedules to call out the best contemporary romances they read in 2016.

As you browse through the picks by Robyn Carr, RaeAnne Thayne, Emily March, Jayne Ann Krentz, Julie James, Kat Martin, Lauren Layne, and Samantha Chase, you’ll notice a recurring book. And I agree–it’s an excellent one that will make both your heart and your sides ache.

The standout pick from many of the authors is First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

We had a reader survey a couple weeks ago and we’re getting ready to launch part two soon. But if you haven’t had a chance to go through and answer some quick questions, here’s the survey once more:

Lastly, the New York Times has an op-ed on Chuck Tingle’s infectious positivity:

By creating an online community in which his particular outlook — what he calls his “unique way” — is not just accepted but celebrated, Mr. Tingle has delivered a strong rebuke to the intolerant forces that used him as a prop in attacking diverse voices in the sci-fi world.

I hope he is who he says he is. In any case, in a year when so many people have been driven off Twitter by bigots and trolls, Chuck Tingle has helped shore up my faith in online culture.

And don’t forget, love is real!

Battery chargers!

Every few months a bigger, better, and lighter weight battery charger comes out. At this point I have 3 in various sizes—lipstick sized, 6.5oz, and the 12.5oz, which lives in our travel bag. I can recharge my kids' DS, tablets, my phone, etc, before it runs out of charge. - SW

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Since you all have reviewed some of his books – the first video is so funny! It’s the one about @midnight with Chris Hardwick. He apparently asked his viewers to tweet Chuck that he want to be the star of a book and get f**cked by something or someone. And Chuck did it. I am so tempted. I might pull the trigger as I have nothing to do on Black Friday at work so I read a book or two.
