Irresistibly Yours
Author: Lauren Layne
Released: October 6, 2015 by Loveswept
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romance
Series: Oxford #1Meet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.
Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.
Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.
Amanda says: A workplace battle of the sexes romance? Oh yeah. And ever since I read Frisk Me, I’m desperate for more of Layne’s awesome dialogue.

Radiance
Author: Catherynne Valente
Released: October 20, 2015 by Tor Books
Genre: Science Fiction/FantasyRadiance is a decopunk pulp SF alt-history space opera mystery set in a Hollywood—and solar system—very different from our own, from the phenomenal talent behind the New York Times bestselling The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.
Severin Unck’s father is a famous director of Gothic romances in an alternate 1986 in which talking movies are still a daring innovation due to the patent-hoarding Edison family. Rebelling against her father’s films of passion, intrigue, and spirits from beyond, Severin starts making documentaries, traveling through space and investigating the levitator cults of Neptune and the lawless saloons of Mars. For this is not our solar system, but one drawn from classic science fiction in which all the planets are inhabited and we travel through space on beautiful rockets. Severin is a realist in a fantastic universe.
But her latest film, which investigates the disappearance of a diving colony on a watery Venus populated by island-sized alien creatures, will be her last. Though her crew limps home to earth and her story is preserved by the colony’s last survivor, Severin will never return.
Aesthetically recalling A Trip to the Moon and House of Leaves, and told using techniques from reality TV, classic film, gossip magazines, and meta-fictional narrative, Radiance is a solar system-spanning story of love, exploration, family, loss, quantum physics, and silent film.
Amanda says: If you haven’t read anything by Valente, you need to rectify that problem immediately. Her writing is beauitful and so detailed. Her books just suck you right in and I’m looking forward to this one.

Goodreads alerted me to the fact that the official Outlander coloring book is coming Oct. 27th.
Outlander. Coloring. Book.
I need it.
I’m excited for all these HRs, as well as the new Gaelen Foley out in a couple weeks.
Can’t WAIT for Ancillary Mercy. Ancillary Justice, Lock In and Spin are three recent science fiction books I routinely recommend to folks who don’t think they will like science fiction. Try them!
Kleypas, Heath?! I’m so there.
I have a serious love/hate relationship with these posts. Ugh. My insurmountable TBR just grew again. And now I’m going to add to someone else’s: Beneath a Waning Moon, the newest collaboration between Grace Draven and Elizabeth Hunter released today as well. You’re welcome.
ANCILLARY MERCY. GET IN MY KOBO ACCOUNT, YO. 😀
Also very anxious to snap up She Walks in Shadows and Radiance, and the second of the Eva Leighs! (I’ve already bought the first.)
Oooh, some interesting books here, a number of which I hadn’t heard about before. Thanks for posting them. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the new Leckie book, but now I’m thinking that I’d better hurry up and re-read the two previous ones first. And an Outlander coloring book? Count me in.
I’ve been doing the new Pamela Clare happy dance for about a week now. A little ungraceful and a bit like the I gotta pee dance, but still, I’m dancing.
Ilona Andrews’ new book, “White Hot,” the second book in the Hidden Legacy series, is coming out Oct. 27th, according to the author’s website. The first one was solid, and this author’s series start slow and get stronger as they progress. I’m looking forward to reading it.
Thanks for the list of upcoming books!
Big K
Lisa Kleypas is my favorite romance author….but I was just disappointed by the latest Travis book. For the first time in my life I may not auto-buy the new Kleypas historical. It’ll probably be $12.99, too.
GoodReads just notified me that there’s a new Molly O’Keefe! OK, it says M. O’Keefe on the cover, but Goodreads assures me it’s M for Molly. Ok, it appears to be first person, which is not my fav, but it’s MOLLY O’KEEFE!!
And another installment of Nalini Singh’s rock romance series. The weather here has turned cold, but I have lots of reasons to stay warm and cozy inside.
@BigK…. The Andrews has been postponed. It won’t be out until next year sometime. They blogged about it a few months back.
@DonnaMarie I was lucky enough to read an ARC of Molly O’Keefe’s Everything I Left Unsaid and it is so, so good. Dark, twisty, erotic. But be warned, it ends on a cliffhanger, and Book 2 comes out in November.
Phoebe,
I’m reading the latest Kleypas Travis book and it’s just. . . bad. There’s the hero who insists that he knows better than the heroine does that they should have a relationship, and the overly cozy couples from previous books who seem to have lost their personalities and become generic cutely bickering/constantly sexing couples, and the hero’s overly cute hobby of taking pictures of stray dogs to help them be adopted, which is all bad enough, but the book starts with a million dollar wedding, and I just can’t. The heroine’s job is to help people spend a huge amount of money on a single day, and I can’t go from the news and Syrian refugees and school shootings and global warming to these people, because I just don’t like them at all, or respect them, or root for them or care about them. It’s half her, and it’s half me, but I completely don’t like the book.
ANCILLARY MERCY! So excited for that. I love sci-fi but am rarely able to find the exact flavor (think Ursula Le Guin) I love – this trilogy has so far really hit the spot for me.
And thank you for mentioning BITCH PLANET, which is so relevant to all of my interests I almost can’t believe it exists!
If y’all liked Ancillary Mercy, you might like City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett.
It has a brown/black woman spy heroine and is another take on colonial fantasy. Highly recommend it.
Ooh yeah, City of Stairs is already on my TBR list. 😀
I’m excited about Lisa Kleypas, particularly writing historicals!
Second I’m excited about a Christmas anthology featuring Carla Kelly!
Rock Redemption by Nalini Singh comes out Oct 6!!! I *might* take a mental health day off work for Tuesday. 😉
Picked up “Silver on the Road” yesterday, and it is marvelous so far!
I saw Jim Hines posting about Silver on the Road, yeah, and I’m eyeing that one now myself!
