Contemporary Romances with Fake Fiancés, Road Trips, & More!

  • Frisk Me

    Frisk Me by Lauren Layne

RECOMMENDED: Frisk Me by Lauren Layne is 99c! I reviewed this book a few months ago and I obviously enjoyed it, seeing as how I gave it an A grade:

That being said, I really loved this book. It’s a nice break from the insta-love/lust that I’ve been reading lately, and I appreciated that the romance was the payoff of the book, rather than it being the driving force to deal with outside, external issues. This is a slow romance, too. No wham, bam, thank you ma’ams here. And admittedly, I spent a good portion of the book grinning like an idiot on the subway. I’ll give it to Layne; she can write some great dialogue.

Officer Luc Moretti had no idea that his dive into the East River would have him drowning in a media frenzy. No matter how many times he tells reporters he was just doing his job, they’re determined to make him into NYC’s newest hero. Coming from a long line of NYPD’s finest, Luc knows that being a cop has nothing to do with headlines and viral videos, and he’s more than ready to get back to life away from the cameras-until he meets the gorgeous but jaded journalist assigned to film a TV special on him . . .

Ava Sims may be the only woman in NYC who isn’t in love with Officer Moretti. That’s why she’s going after the real story-to find out about the man behind the badge. Ava’s determined to keep things strictly professional, but the more time she spends around Luc, even she has to admit there’s something about a man in uniform . . . and she can’t wait to get him out of his.

  • My One and Only

My One and Only by Kristan Higgins

My One and Only by Kristan Higgans is $2.99! This is a contemporary second chance romance with a road trip plot. Catnip, anyone? Some readers felt the romance was predictable and just sort of meh, while others really loved how Higgins handled the second chance/reunited exes trope. Readers also mentioned the book has some great secondary characters. Have you read this one?

Just when she thought she had life and love all figured out…

Divorce attorney Harper James can’t catch a break. Bad enough that she runs into her ex-hubby, Nick, at her sister’s destination wedding, but now, by a cruel twist of fate, she’s being forced to make a cross-country road trip with him. And her almost-fiancé back at home is not likely to be sympathetic.

Harper can’t help that Nick has come blazing back into her life in all of his frustratingly appealing, gorgeous architect glory. But in Nick’s eyes, Harper’s always been the one. If they can only get it right this time, forever might be waiting—just around the bend.

  • Dance With Me

Dance With Me by Heidi Cullinan

Dance With Me by Heidi Cullinan is 99c at Amazon right now and $3.99 elsewhere. But hopefully, we’ll see some price matching later today! This is a M/M contemporary romance between a former football player and a dance instructor. This book was also recommended in the comments in our post on marriage equality. Readers love the opposites attract feel of the romance, though some felt it was a little too serious and somber for them. It has a 4-star rating on GoodReads.

    Sometimes life requires a partner.

Ed Maurer has bounced back, more or less, from the neck injury that permanently benched his semipro football career. He hates his soul-killing office job, but he loves volunteering at a local community center. The only fly in his ointment is the dance instructor, Laurie Parker, who can’t seem to stay out of his way.

Laurie was once one of the most celebrated ballet dancers in the world, but now he volunteers at Halcyon Center to avoid his society mother’s machinations. It would be a perfect escape, except for the oaf of a football player cutting him glares from across the room.

When Laurie has a ballroom dancing emergency and Ed stands in as his partner, their perceptions of each other turn upside down. Dancing leads to friendship, being friends leads to becoming lovers, but most important of all, their partnership shows them how to heal the pain of their pasts. Because with every turn across the floor, Ed and Laurie realize the only escape from their personal demons is to keep dancing—together.

  • Seven Day Fiance

Seven Day Fiance by Rachel Harris

Seven Day Fiancé by Rachel Harris is 99c! This contemporary romance features a fake relationship, where the hero pretends to be the heroine’s fiancé after she wins him at a charity bachelor auction. This is also the second book in the series, with the first and third books being on sale for $2.99. Readers describe this as a sweet and somewhat simple romance, so those looking for something a little steamier or prefer some melodrama with their romance might look elsewhere. It has a 3.9-star average on GoodReads.

One bad boy. One good girl. One unforgettable week.

Angelle Prejean is in a pickle. Her family is expecting her to come home with a fiancé—a fiancé who doesn’t exist. Well, he exists, but he definitely has no idea Angelle told her mama they were engaged. Tattooed, muscled, and hotter than sin, Cane can reduce Angelle to a hot mess with one look—and leave her heart a mess if she falls for him. But when she ends up winning him at a charity bachelor auction, she knows just how to solve her fiancé problem.

Cane Robicheaux is no one’s prince. He doesn’t do relationships and he doesn’t fall in love. When sweet, sultry-voiced Angelle propositions him, he hopes their little fiancé game can finally get her out of his head. He doesn’t expect her to break through all his barriers. But even as Angelle burrows deeper into his heart, he knows once their seven days are up, so is their ruse.
