RECOMMENDED: Mine to Take by Jackie Ashenden is $2.99! Elyse read this contemporary erotic romance and really enjoyed it. She gave the book an A-:

I immensely enjoyed the start of this series and am looking forward to the rest of the books. If you like sexy biker gang president CEO heroes who are bossy in the bedroom–and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?–then consider picking up Mine to Take.

First in a brand new series featuring the members of the Nine Circles Club—friends bound together by power, secrets, need…and the love they will find and stop at nothing to keep.

Passion always comes at a price.

Gabriel Woolf is unstoppable. A ruthless businessman, he has perfected the art of revenge. Ever since his mother’s death, Gabriel has harbored only one wish: To take down the man who ruined their lives. But all bets are off when he meets his father’s step-daughter, Honor St. James. Beautiful and innocent, she is everything Gabriel never knew he wanted—and now there’s no turning back…

Is her desire worth the risk?

But Gabriel’s passion for Honor—in spite of her connection to the man he hates the most—cannot be denied…and the feeling is utterly mutual. Can Gabriel be trusted? The only thing she knows for sure is how he makes her feel. And she can’t keep herself from coming back to him, over and over again…

  • Nice Dragons Finish Last

Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron

RECOMMENDED: Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron is 99c! This urban fantasy was mentioned when Sarah had Rachel on the podcast in May. Sarah said she “realllllly liked it” and that it has excellent world building in a previous Whatcha Reading. Some readers mention it’s slow to start, but it has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

As the smallest dragon in the Heartstriker clan, Julius survives by a simple code: keep quiet, don’t cause trouble, and stay out of the way of bigger dragons. But this meek behavior doesn’t fly in a family of ambitious magical predators, and his mother, Bethesda the Heartstriker, has finally reached the end of her patience.

Now, sealed in human form and banished to the DFZ–a vertical metropolis built on the ruins of Old Detroit–Julius has one month to prove that he can be a ruthless dragon or kiss his true shape goodbye forever. But in a city of modern mages and vengeful spirits where dragons are considered monsters to be exterminated, he’s going to need some serious help to survive this test.

He only hopes humans are more trustworthy than dragons…

  • The Immortal Rules

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa is $1.99! This is a YA paranormal/dystopian novel where vampires rule and keep human like cattle. Readers said it was an enjoyable, new take on the popular vampire trope, while others felt the story dragged, especially at the beginning. If you’re looking to binge, the second book in the series is also $1.99!

To survive in a ruined world, she must embrace the darkness…

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them—the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies…and becomes one of the monsters.

Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend—a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what—and who—is worth dying for…again.

  • Burns So Bad

Burns So Bad by Anne Marsh

Burns So Bad by Anne Marsh is FREE! This is a contemporary romance set in the workplace, but not in the traditional office building. The hero and heroine are both smoke jumpers. Some readers thought there was way too much going on, while others loved the heroine and the way she joins the “boys club” of smoke jumping. Right now, there are six books in the series, all of which can be purchased for less than $15. Or, if you want to cherry-pick, they range in price from cheesy bread FREE to $3.99!

ONE JUMP PUTS IT ALL ON THE LINE…
Summer is heating up in Strong, California. The jump team’s bad boy, Rio Donovan is one hundred percent pure, sensual trouble. He never backs down from a fire or a dare and he loves putting it all on the line when he parachutes into the heart of the fire. When the fire camp gets a much-needed new player, however, Rio lands in uncharted territory. The jump team’s newest member is sexy, strong—and female. She’s supposed to be just one of the boys, but Rio burns to claim her one heated kiss at a time. This jump, Rio Donovan’s putting it all on the line. Body and heart.

INTO THE FIRE… AND INTO LOVE
Kissing a fellow smoke jumper would be career suicide and Gia Jackson has worked too hard and too long to earn her spot on Strong’s jump team to jeopardize it all now for a man. The love-em-and-leave-em boys of summer aren’t her type and she’s hiding a few secrets of her own, but, when her chute tangles with Rio’s on a jump, he’s thrown into her arms. Literally. She’s held firm on the fireline for years—but can she hold the line now against Rio’s seductive charm?

  1. Mara says:

I hate to be a debby downer, but I really did not like “Burns So Bad,” which was a bummer because it had a lot of my catnip. The authorial voice was always a little too far away from the characters and that made them opaque, weirdly motivated, & unlikeable, IMO.

Excited to try the Rachel Aaron for $.99, though!

  2. Amanda says:

@Mara: Not a downer at all! We want your opinions on books! They may keep someone from wasting their time on a bad book or whatever you hated may be something someone else enjoys.

  3. Storyphile says:

I found Nice Dragons Finish Last to be a very fun read. Things to note: Rachel Aaron also writes science fiction as Rachel Bach. And the second book in the Heartstrikers series is available in Kindle Unlimited, last time I checked.

Rachel Aaron/ Rachel Bach is not quite autobuy for me, but pretty darn close; she is on my list of authors whose works I want to eventually own all of, but can wait a bit when my budget forces me to. Basically, a solid author that I always enjoy reading.

  4. DonnaMarie says:

    DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Heather Greye says:

Oooh, I had the paperback of Mine to Take in hand on Saturday night, but decided to push off my purchase to later. Love the price drop!

  6. JenM says:

If you like UF, I highly recommend Nice Dragons Finish Last. The hero is adorable, struggling with being a nice dragon in a family where being “nice” is practically a death sentence. There’s an attraction to a witch he teams up with, but no real romance. On the other hand, DRAGONS! LOL.
