To celebrate the four – yay, four! – Harlequin Superromances nominated for the 2015 RITA®, several Harlequin Superromance authors asked if they could host a giveaway. They’d like to give one lucky winner a year’s subscription to the Harlequin Superromance line – that’s four books a month, for a year. Nice!

Details? Of course! The winner will be subscribed for one calendar year to the Harlequin SuperRomance line, and will receive four print Superromances every month. Prize value: $170+ USD.

What kind of books are in the Harlequin Superromance line? Well, first, they’re larger than other books published in the category lines – up to 85,000 words. Second, they, to quote the Harlequin website, “are filled with powerful relationships that deliver a strong emotional punch and a guaranteed happily ever after.” In other words, FEELS. FEELS AHOY EVERYWHERE GET THE FEELS ROOMBA TO CORRAL THEM.

Here are what some Superromance authors have to say about the line they write in, and why they love it:

Liz Talley: Superromance is… robust, fully-fleshed romance that stretches the gamut of settings, character-types and genres. Superromance is perfect for the eclectic and discerning romance reader.

Claire McEwen: I love Superromance because the stories are complicated and interesting.  When I read them, I get the intense romance and happy ending that I so enjoy, but I also get so much more: fully realized secondary characters, fascinating settings, really creative conflicts and situations.  When I finish a Super I feel like I’ve actually been with the characters in a very emotional and compelling place.  It’s the best kind of escape.

Lenora Worth:  I love writing Superromance. The stories are longer, deeper and include more family dynamics. I’ve always read Supers. And I always wanted to write for the line. A Super can be very sweet or more steamy and I like that about the line, too. It’s a saga that draws the reader into the characters and their world. I’ve learned a lot, writing for Superromance.

Jennifer Lohmann: What I love aboutSuperromance can best be described in pitching my books to my editor. When I pitch something like, “So, there’s this heroine who lost her Olympic gold medal because she doped…” my editor responds, “Great! Don’t pull your punches.” It’s that “don’t pull your punches” attitude that makes Supers so wonderful.

If you haven’t read a SuperRomance before, and you like contemporary romances with layered stories and  lot of emotion, you’ll want to enter this giveaway.

  1. I enjoy humor with my romance.

  2. clare roden says:

I just like a story with a good background and the characters have a way of drawing you in and make you feel all the emotions that they are going through. Plenty of romance and some hot loving for sure!

  3. Susan Marie says:

I read more historicals than contemporaries, but I do like contemporaries that are also mysteries!

  4. Holly says:

I really enjoy contemporary’s with older Heroines and Hero’s – preferably without a secret baby or accidental pregnancy.

  5. Cindy Gunnin says:

I want contemporary romances that are very realistic. I want heroines who are smart and funny and can face down the worst part of their lives without a man, but who can still appreciate a man when the right one appears. If she can save him, that makes it even better.

  6. WendyK says:

I most love small town romances or second chance love or well honestly as long as no cheating is involved by the hero or heroine I’m good with contemporary romance. 🙂 Just can’t deal with cheating. I love the SuperRomance line. I buy a LOT of the stories.

    WendyK

  7. Cordelia says:

Oh man I love superromance, especially when they’re Issue Books. I feel like SR does the big issue stuff more than most imprints, and I’m such a sucker for the Big Misunderstanding that comes from that. So much drama!

  8. Heidi Howard says:

Ii want a relationship. Not “a lets have sex 4 times and that makes us in love” story. Give me conflict, character flaws, but a relationship based on mutual respect.

  9. Jen G. says:

I like contemporaries where the friendships are just as strong as the romances.

  10. Jennifer Atkinson says:

I tend to like the whole gamut although I really do like the funny situational romances.

  11. Sarah says:

I love Contemporary, but where there are families and kids involved.

  12. Brenda Moore says:

I like most all harlequin books, but mainly ones about what I consider to be, “real” people, who have real life struggles. I also like to read a book with a little mystery to it as well.

  13. KimmieB says:

I love, love, love humor in relationships. I love when best friends find love, and their established relationship means they don’t fall for each other’s baloney.

  14. Lois Burrows says:

i love a good story that makes me laugh and cry. I love Cowboys and westerns. I seem to read a lot of the books over and over. Lois

  15. Kelly Ingram says:

Superromance, historicals, suspense and contemporaries. Anywhere there’s a good story.

  16. Kristi says:

Friends to lovers… or haters to loves (that’s why I love Presents, ha!)

  17. shawny j says:

This is as true for contemporaries as anything, but I like well developed characters and limited angst. I hate the “i’m too damaged to be loved” trope almost as much as I hate plot zombie/too stupid to live heroines.

  18. Christine says:

Contemporary romances are my favorite so I am super excited about this giveaway. My favorite contemporary romances have real life heroes and heroines grappling with real life issues that should keep them apart, like career or family matters, yet they still have the sexual chemistry and humor. Academic heroes or heroines are a special weakness of mine.

  19. Sharon S says:

I used to read SuperRomances a lot. I still read any Sarah Mayberry book that comes out. Amazing depth to her books. Most contemporaries I read these days are the Shannon Stacey, Lori Foster, Jill Shalvis’… And Kristen Ashley, Shiloh Walker, Lynda Archer’s… I love contemporary romance!

  20. Octoberwoman says:

For a long time I got caught up in the whole supernatural rage – especially vampires. But these days I’m more into contemporary. I particularly like cowboys, and I love authors who write witty banter.

  21. Tracey Lee says:

i love contemporary novels, but I’m sucker for romance. I love reading how the characters first fall in love. Just love the idea of love. Thanks for the chance.

  22. Lynnette says:

I like all kinds of contemporaries, but my preference is for strong h/h, great dialogue – but please not the overly cute witty banter that never ends! Real people just don’t talk like that all the time. I am a fan of the meet-cute and stories where the h/h are thrown together through work. And I love a little mystery/danger thrown in.

  23. Christine says:

I like contemporaries with a strong sense of community, normal, everyday characters and real-life problems. I also like a mystery element–a little bit of adventure but not too over the top!

  24. C-Jay M says:

I tend to go for the quick reads, but I buy whatever sounds good. Although, I do love a good cowboy romance. For a while it’s been the Harlequin American Romance series. 🙂

  25. Jackie says:

I am a total sucker for ‘lost in a remote location and must rely on each other for warmth’ thing and the ‘super nerdy hero or heroine finds love outside the lab’ thing 🙂

  26. Janelle says:

My favorite are when the heroine is returning to her hometown and facing the past she left behind. I am a sucker for the small town girl books!

  27. J Mull says:

I’ve been on a celeb romance kick lately–not just actors, sports too. Lots of yumminess there.

  28. kisah says:

I love the friends-to-lovers trope, any good story that kicks me right in the feels, screwball-comedy stuff (in small doses), heroes/heroines totally into their job (with wonderful competence porn to boot!), & locales I’m not familiar with but would love to know more about! I’m more than open to throwing in a little mystery too….

  29. Joyce Reece says:

I love historical romances but what really grabs my attention is an action/adventure romance that makes you feel like you are on the edge of your seat on an uphill rollercoaster waiting to get the top and yell NO all the way down.

  30. LaurieF says:

I want great dialogue and grown-up, mature protagonists who have fulfilling lives before they join forces. I also don’t want a plot that hinges on a huge misunderstanding – talk to each other people. Location/setting is not really important to me as long as what’s being described is realistic.

  31. Jennifer Abrams says:

I love small town romances where the characters are real and have flaws. I get annoyed when the hero and heroine hate each other and fight their attraction to each other and lose out on time they could have been together!!
I’m also annoyed by heroines that are overly snarky!
But give me a good HEA and I can forgive what annoys me!

  32. Karen Hasby says:

I would be so happy to win. I like novels that are stand alone. I read just about anything. I like contemporary, historical, and some paranormal books too. Have read SuperRomances in the past and enjoyed them all.

  33. denise says:

I like contemporary romances with the HEA–settings can be anywhere, though I do like the small town romances; can be stand-alones or part of a series; and they must be well-written.

  34. Kim Heniadis says:

I enjoy romances that have a strong, quirky heroine that can make me laugh. If there’s a mystery wrapped up with the story, that is a wonderful bonus.
I enjoy tear-jerkers, but I usually just read those during the time of the month when my “friend” comes to visit.
I am also drawn to romances where the main character works in a library or bake shop… what can I say, I love food and books!

  35. Seb Kay says:

I tend to go for historical romance most of the time, but I love a good contemporary where the woman is just In Charge. Nothing like a leading lady who knows exactly what she wants and how to get it, and her lucky man who’s ready and eager to give her what she needs.

I read a superromance ages ago that I really enjoyed, and it’s still on my bookshelf today (younger brother tumbles with the heroine briefly, she gets preggo, he invites her to marry him, she shows up, he bolts, she marries the older brother, the older brother and her end up happily ever after with twins – “His Brother’s Bride” by Judith Bowen, if you’re interested).

  36. Ellen says:

I’d love to win – this would go a long way toward feeding my romance novel addiction. Romance novels are the chocolate covered cherries of literature!

  37. KB says:

I am surprised I hadn’t heard of this line before now. I’m intrigued. I will probably try some of these (even if I don’t win) but I tend to like the contemporary sports stories. But, I will usually give anything a try.

  38. Christine Maria Rose says:

What a fantastic treat this would be to win! I love the HQN Superromance line and have enjoyed the stories I’ve read to date. In fact, the last new print romance I bought was a Superromance by Nicole Helm called Falling For The New Guy, about 2 weeks ago. I love contemporary romances that feature reunited lovers, enemies to lovers, or siblings best friends tropes.

  39. davina bell says:

I love a Super Romance in which the heroine is a strong, independent woman who was not looking for love. However, circumstances are set where a love connection is made. I love when the love is a surprise! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  40. tealadytoo says:

What I really love in a contemporary is
    – snappy banter that doesn’t stray to nasty condescension
    – an unusual profession or interest that I can learn a little about. (I still fondly remember one for 20 or more years ago where the h was an architect who designed carnival fun houses. Lots of trivia in that one.)
    – A little suspense

Put them together, and I’m hooked.
