The Sweetest September

To celebrate the four – yay, four! – Harlequin Superromances nominated for the 2015 RITA®, several Harlequin Superromance authors asked if they could host a giveaway. They’d like to give one lucky winner a year’s subscription to the Harlequin Superromance line – that’s four books a month, for a year. Nice!

Details? Of course! The winner will be subscribed for one calendar year to the Harlequin SuperRomance line, and will receive four print Superromances every month. Prize value: $170+ USD.

What kind of books are in the Harlequin Superromance line? Well, first, they’re larger than other books published in the category lines – up to 85,000 words. Second, they, to quote the Harlequin website, “are filled with powerful relationships that deliver a strong emotional punch and a guaranteed happily ever after.” In other words, FEELS. FEELS AHOY EVERYWHERE GET THE FEELS ROOMBA TO CORRAL THEM.

Here are what some Superromance authors have to say about the line they write in, and why they love it:

Liz Talley: Superromance is… robust, fully-fleshed romance that stretches the gamut of settings, character-types and genres. Superromance is perfect for the eclectic and discerning romance reader.

Claire McEwen: I love Superromance because the stories are complicated and interesting.  When I read them, I get the intense romance and happy ending that I so enjoy, but I also get so much more: fully realized secondary characters, fascinating settings, really creative conflicts and situations.  When I finish a Super I feel like I’ve actually been with the characters in a very emotional and compelling place.  It’s the best kind of escape.

Lenora Worth:  I love writing Superromance. The stories are longer, deeper and include more family dynamics. I’ve always read Supers. And I always wanted to write for the line. A Super can be very sweet or more steamy and I like that about the line, too. It’s a saga that draws the reader into the characters and their world. I’ve learned a lot, writing for Superromance.

Jennifer Lohmann: What I love aboutSuperromance can best be described in pitching my books to my editor. When I pitch something like, “So, there’s this heroine who lost her Olympic gold medal because she doped…” my editor responds, “Great! Don’t pull your punches.” It’s that “don’t pull your punches” attitude that makes Supers so wonderful.

If you haven’t read a SuperRomance before, and you like contemporary romances with layered stories and  lot of emotion, you’ll want to enter this giveaway.

  1. Rebe says:

I love Janice Kay Johnson’s books! She does a nice combo of mystery and romance.

  2. Hana says:

I’m a small town romance, girl, but I also love good reunion, friends-to-lovers, office romance, and opposites attract stories (a bonus if a book has all these tropes and makes them work! xD). I think Superromances offer more gritter stories, too, compared to Harlequin’s Romance line which I love.

  3. Gemma says:

Sarah Mayberry is one of my fav authors. Writers like her are why I still like to read Harlequin.

  4. Larena Hubble says:

I love to read everything. It tends to depend on my mood as to what I read at any given time. As long as I am reading that is all I worry about.

  5. Erika Daman says:

I love a variety of contemporary romance novels. I am all over the map, erotica not so much. Sweet and loving are fun. Any good writing is what I enjoy.

  6. Colleen C. says:

I love the ones that grab ahold of my emotions! Love the variety of Contemporary books out there! 😀

  7. Ann says:

I like almost all of them. I dislike books that are built around silly misunderstandings or accidents. And I am not fond of the “second time around” category.

  8. Jenn Green says:

I love to read stories of two people who knew/dated each other previously coming back together. This could be a high school couple that parted ways, a couple that married too soon and divorced, or even a couple who knew each other as children. There’s just something about a shared history that gets my heartstrings every time.

  9. Laurie I says:

I like contemporary romances with characters that I can relate to. They have vulnerabilities but also strengths that are developed and realized by the end of the story. I like realistic situations, even if undesirable, because life affects people in that way sometimes. When adversities strike I like to see how characters get through their challenges and re-emerge as brighter, wiser individuals. I haven’t read a SuperRomance yet, but I’m thinking they might be what I’m looking for.

  10. Jean Morrier says:

My favorite contemporaries have a fast pace, include some adventure or intrigue, and usually young kids are involved. I love sweet kidlets. Single dads are adorable!

  11. Summer says:

When I read a contemporary, or any romance, really, I like the relationship to seem like it’s following a natural course for these two people. I don’t want to feel like a sex scene is just there because readers expect there to be a sex scene, or for the couple to get married on the last page when they’ve only known each other for two weeks just because some people still think the only happily ever after for a woman is a wedding. My favorite romances are always the ones that feel like they’ve progressed in a way that’s true to where the characters are at in their lives.

  12. Judy Pflueger says:

I like stories with cowboys in them, small town stories, military personnel, and just about anything else.

  13. Brittany says:

    Modern stories about royalty

  14. Sarah Yarbrough says:

My favorite contemporary romance are what I like to call “big city” romances. They are set in big cities and both the hero and heroine have busy careers. There needs to be lots of sexy times, but also a love story with some depth to it.

  15. Joy says:

I guess I like my heroines not to be clueless and my heroes not to be a**holes. I also DON’T like the plotlines when the hero thinks the heroine is immoral and she has to spend the book proving herself.

I DO like a likeable hero and a heroine that doesn’t need rescue but could use a good friend, a helper and a really sexy guy all rolled into one person.

  16. KatieF says:

I love contemporary romances that feature smart characters. Anytime I see either the hero or heroine identified as being a scientist or mathematician or librarian or any other kind of profession I associate with intelligence, especially of the nerdly kind, I am in.

  17. Kathleen says:

I like stories where the people are in situations that happen in real life. I don’t know anyone who has entered a marriage of convenience or who will lose a fortune if they don’t have a child within a year. Those stories are okay, but I prefer more realistic problems and people falling in love like normal people. If the hero and heroine are people of color, that makes it even better.

  18. Lisa B says:

I love to read!! I like all kinds of books, historical or contemporary! I really like books when the female has a situation that pushed her out of her comfort zone, how she handles it & the relationship that is revealed through that! I also like the men to be strong, capable, & caring & who is not afraid of being supportive of her & also a real hottie!!

  19. Dagny says:

I like reading the kinds of contemporaries with complicated family backstories (kids from previous marriages who don’t get along! Parents who used to date and are pretending they didn’t for the sake of the kids! Tangled sets of siblings from various families!) Bring me the dinner table tension and uncomfortable Christmases so that I can watch love conquer all of it.

Close second? Supernatural people who solve crimes and then love all up on each other.

  20. Kassiah says:

I love all kinds of contemporary romance, but I think my favorites are the ones with soldiers. Thanks for this awesome giveaway!

  21. Sarah Bonner says:

I like contemporary romance that is based in the workplace. Workplace settings provide a good background for the leads to meet and interact on a personal level. I like when they butt heads at first but then work together on a common goal, then fall in love 🙂

  22. Amanda says:

I can’t pick just one! I love contemporary fairy tale retellings, especially Beauty and the Beast tropes. I also love enemies to lovers. Really, though, if it’s hot and sweet, I want to read it.

  23. JoanneF says:

I also have a weakness for marriage of convenience romances, especially if they’re funny. Also, beauty and the beast themes. I know they’re hokey, but I love them anyway.

Having recently graduated from wheelchair to walker after breaking my ankle (damn you Frozen February!), I will hobble in awkwardly uncoordinated glee if I win. Those books will help make my unwelcome immobility bearable.

  24. Neroski says:

I like contemporaries with a lot of humour and not over the top? I like it when the drama is realistic, like something my friends would deal with, like in Jenny Crusie’s Anyone But You which has the older woman leery about dating a younger guy thing I loved that book ^_^

Mainly I love a heroine that’s got her own stuff regardless of the hero and a leading man who’s masculine but still a feminist. Just a sap I guess haha

  25. Laney4 says:

I like a variety. I like ultra rich/just getting by … sheikhs and CEOs … prefer the guy to realize his feelings for the girl first and then have to do something about it … especially like witty banter between the hero and heroine … I have no problem with children or babies in the picture as well … can be in a faraway land/Anytown, USA … the possibilities are endless.

  26. Tammy Y says:

I read mainly Harlequin series books. Super Romance is one of my favorite lines. So many wonderful authors. I would be beyond thrilled if I won this prize.

  27. bn100 says:

    brother’s best friend

  28. Sarah says:

Anything romantic comedy that’s not too wholesome!

  29. Mary Preston says:

I love it when the heroine has a quirky kind of profession & personality to match. They usually find themselves paired with a pretty straight laced kind of guy. Love the opposites attracting.

  30. Megan says:

I’m pretty new to romance, so I don’t exactly know what my catnip is. But I do love a marriage of convenience.

  31. Kristen says:

I Love contempories of all sorts. Though my favorites would probably be friends to lovers. I love when the H/h have a connection that turns to love, rather than insta-love. I also love marriage of convenience stories, especially if they have a unique twist to them.

  32. Pamela says:

    A modern Cinderella story!

  33. LaLani says:

I love any romance book and any author.

  34. I love to read small town contemporary romance and am a big fan of the SuperRomance line! Thanks for the great giveaway.

  35. Melissa says:

I love the Contemporary Romance genre. My favorite is sports romance, and I also love a good second chance romance! My mother had a subscription to Harlequin when I was a kid, I can remember very early in my teenage years sneaking those books off her bookshelf to read with my flashlight under the blanket. Her love of romance definitely inspired me to love it as well!

  36. Celia Marsh says:

I love the small town contemporaries, probably because I grew up in a small town and it was absolutely NOTHING like fiction.

  37. […] easy to enter. Just hop over to the contest post at Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, read the official rules, and leave the required comment. […]

  38. Nikki H says:

I love small town romance, especially series centered in small towns. Contemporary novels are my catnip right now, although I’ve read everything from historical romance to paranormals to suspense to science fiction (Live Long and Prosper). Some of my favorite authors got their start writing for Harlequin!

  39. Jennie says:

With contemporaries, I like career women. I prefer CEO types, but anyone who’s dedicated to her work and takes it seriously and gets some of her identity from it.

Also, I was surprised when the Billionaires and Babies series came out from Harlequin Desire– it was a whole catnip I didn’t know I had.

  40. Zina H says:

I’ll read anything at least once but my ultimate favorite type of contemporary romance are single parent romances. There’s something about how sweet it is for our hero/ine to find someone that not only loves them but loves their kids that makes my knees weak.

Second to that would have to be jilted/left at the altar contemporary romances. But I’m so easy to please with contemporary romances. It’s like Harlequin’s Kiss line was created just for me!
