Half-Off Rebate & Bestsellers on Sale at Amazon

Happy New Year, Bitchery! Let’s celebrate with some ebook sales!

Currently, All Romance is running a 50% rebate on select titles and, with ebooks being on sale like crazy, just think of how many you could buy for $10. Amazon is also having a decent sale on some bestsellers (see below!) and hopefully we’ll get some price matching before the day is done.

  • The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is $1.99 at Amazon and iBooks! It’s also $3.99 at Barnes & Noble. This is the first book in the very popular Hunger Games Trilogy, which of course has now been turned into an equally successful movie franchise. Though it’s billed as a young adult dystopian novel, it’s heavy on the violence. And while the holidays may be over, it’s always the right time to give the gift of books. It has a 4.4-star rating on GR.

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, “The Hunger Games,” a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed.

  • A Discovery of Witches

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness is $1.99 at Amazon! This books is rarely on sale. Trust me, I know because I’m been dying to read it and I used to check the price religiously. I’m hoping other retailers will join the price matching club. Many readers loved the magical, enthralling plot that has a little bit of everything, while some took issue with a few of the characters. It is the first book in the All Souls Trilogy.

A richly inventive novel about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and the mysterious manuscript that draws them together.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford’s Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.

Debut novelist Deborah Harkness has crafted a mesmerizing and addictive read, equal parts history and magic, romance and suspense. Diana is a bold heroine who meets her equal in vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and gradually warms up to him as their alliance deepens into an intimacy that violates age-old taboos. This smart, sophisticated story harks back to the novels of Anne Rice, but it is as contemporary and sensual as the Twilight series-with an extra serving of historical realism.

  • Shiver

    Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater is $1.99 at Amazon and $2.99 at iBooks! I’ll also say that roommate is obsessed with Maggie Stiefvater and has read practically every one of her books. This is a young adult fantasy/paranormal romance and is the first book in The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. Some readers were a bit divided on the romance. It was either perfectly sweet or too predictable. For those who have read it, which camp are you in?

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf–her wolf–is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human–or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

I love Stiefvater’s Raven Cycle series with a passion, but found Shiver very formulaic and unexciting. The romance was meh and the story was obvious. But, again – the Raven books are amazing and weird and magical. Go read them instead 🙂

  2. Mikaela says:

One heads up about ARe: I discovered that several of the books I have bought through the last 5 years from various Harlequin imprints were unavailable for re-download. Some was logical since they were pdfs or have been reissued w new covers or by another imprint, but some was just missing :(. Just another reminder to back up your books and to strip the DRM.

  3. Lisa J says:

@ Mikaela – The same thing happened to me with some preorders. ARe explained they changed suppliers and the links to the old supplier no longer work. I think that is also why Kensington, Sourcebooks, Harlequin, and a couple of others are no longer coupon eligible, which bites.

  4. Mikaela says:

@Lisa J: That explains why the books were missing. Thank you!

  5. Andrea D says:

@Nicole Thanks for the heads up! That’s a great deal. Tears of the Moon is my favorite of that trilogy, but I remember enjoying Jewels of the Sun as well.
