Books On Sale

Nipples, Updates, and Deals!

First, remember the amazing nipple-less model who appeared on so many book covers? Thanks to Jenny, she's been spotted again – still without those dangerous, pesky nipples.

Nipples? Nope. Just a big breast with no nipple. It's really weird, I'm telling you.

It's rather alarming, isn't it? I mean, where the hell did her nipple go? Did it wander off? Does her Sensei have a very high level of skill in nipple frightening?

Thanks to Jenny for the link!

Second, awhile back in October 2011 we did a “What Ever Happened To?” for author Shanna Swendson. Today, I received an email from her:

Much Ado About Magic - cartoon cover with curly blond haired chick and a frog wearing a wizard's pointed hat. Last October, I was the subject of one of your “What Ever Happened To?” posts, with readers curious about what happened to the Enchanted, Inc. series. I thought you (and your readers) might be interested in an update.

My agent whacked me about the head and shoulders with the Clue Stick and finally convinced me to digitally publish the rest of the series. Although the US publisher didn't want to continue the series, the Japanese publisher did, so I wrote books 5 and 6 for them. Since they were sitting on my hard drive, I eventually decided that the only way to get them out there was to do it myself.

Book 5, Much Ado About Magic,( A | BN | K | S ) will be published August 15 and book 6, No Quest for the Wicked, is coming in October. I just struck a deal with the Japanese publisher to do a seventh book and am currently writing that. I imagine that one will be digitally published in English, as well, depending on what happens with books 5 and 6.

You can take partial credit for this coming about because the response from readers to your post (and the shock of feeling like a has-been for even being the subject of a “What Ever Happened To?” — in Hollywood, that would make me a candidate for a third-tier reality show) had a lot to do with convincing me that people really would want to read these books, even if it was digital only (and we're working on getting a paper version, as well).

So, thanks for being part of the kick in the pants!

So, if you're a Shana Swendson fan, get ready for new books – yay!

  1. Liz says:

Loretta Chase mentioned on her website (Two Nerdy History Girls) that “Your Scandalous Ways” was part of an August-only $1.99 sale with several other Avon titles… does anyone have the rest of the list? (Putting 1.99 into the ebook search box brings up such a hodge podge…)

  2. Nicole Hulst says:

I think if you search for Scandal or Scandalous and Avon they’ll come up.

And yay for the Shanna Swendson news! That was my Whatever Happened To…, I think.

  3. Carolyn says:

I think the tip of that model’s nipple is peaking out between his first and second fingers. Slightly misplaced, but I think that’s it …

  4. SB Sarah says:

Sure do, Liz. I’m going to post Loretta Chase’s list here and in the entry above as an edit. ARE YOU READY? HERE COME LINKS!

  5. Rain says:

Is anyone else unnerved by the fact that her breast has a corner? I showed this to my partner to see if he would see the lack of nipple-age and he didn’t, but he pointed out the weird top right corner… poor boob!

  6. Isobel Carr says:

Soooo, when you have a breast removed and reconstructed, the nipple is considered “cosmetic” and is not covered by most insurance companies (don’t get me started on just who would ever claim a nipple is merely cosmetic). I’m going to tell myself that THAT is why that poor woman is nippleless.

  7. Clbevill says:

It’s a medical condition.  Nipple gonicus.  Some people are born without.  For some reason I’m reminded of The Man With the Golden Gun in which the bad guy had an extra nipple.  Maybe that’s where that poor woman’s nipple went to.

  8. Is it just me, or does his hand look disproportionately small compared to her boob? It looks so tiny….

  9. Jessica_HookEm says:

Yay!  I’m so glad that Shanna Swendson finally decided to publish the remaining Enchanted, Inc. books.  I have a hard time rereading them right now because I want to know what happens next so I can’t wait for them to be available in ebook format!

  10. Lori says:

Yay for Shanna Swendson’s agents’s use of the Clue Stick. I liked her books and I’m excited to know that the rest of the series will soon be available.

  11. Liz says:

Thanks a bunch, Sarah… you rock!

  12. Pam says:

There’s way more wrong with that cover than a missing nipple.  I actually think the ruchly budded nub is supposed to be under his elderly grandma hand.  And what’s with his other hand?  Is that a lady arm, or is he just meeeelllting?  (I really hate the hairless male convention.)  Also, are they lying down, or is he standing in a hole?  I look at that cover and all I can think of is some urban fantasy thing where they are both possessed by some Other, and it’s rippling through their bodies just before they transform.  By the way, what discipline are they practicing: Nude fu?

  13. SB Sarah says:

You are welcome! I hope you’ll let me know what you think of any of the books you try on sale!

  14. Laurie says:

Thank you for self publishing Shanna Swendson.  I really enjoyed this series and I’m so glad I can get more!

  15. Lisa says:

Thank you Shanna Swendson. My sister and I are both hooked on your Enchanted Inc books and can’t wait to read more!

  16. Jenny Lyn says:

This poor girl keeps losing her nips. And yes, I just noticed that her boob is squared off on the inside. It almost looks like she’s cut in half with the way he’s posed over her, like her torso melds into his. The whole entire thing is very odd.

  17. ECSpurlock says:

I think this poor cover model is a victim of Censorship Syndrome. I know there is a convention in illustration that if the illustration is likely to be seen by an underage audience (such as on a bookstore shelf) you can’t show the nipple. You can show as much of the boob as you want, but you can’t show the nipple. That’s why even though there is a lot of gratuitous nudity in anime and manga, you never see nipples or pubic hair. Similarly, when costuming for TV, you can bare the breast down to the nipple but you can never show the nipple or the underside of the breast. Clearly these two models were not posed together and the cover artist just did a really bad job of positioning that hand.

  18. Joanna says:

Thanks so much for the Shanna Swendson update!  It’s been a while (of course) since I read these and I passed them on to someone else who enjoyed them so I hope I can remember them well enough to not be lost – but they were great fun!!

  19. Carolyn says:

I think his arm is under her hair and that’s her arm on top.  0.o

  20. Olivia Waite says:

That sounds plausible—and I’m going to chime in and suggest that square-boob syndrome is a result of airbrushing that boob to be bigger. I suspect that top curve to be added in later to make the model look bustier. This might also explain why the dude’s hand and a certain amount of nipplesp—

    —nippipiele—

    —nipplelessness.

    Whew.

  21. Niki says:

After staring at that odd breast for much too long, I have an alternative theory.  I think he DOES have his hand covering her nipple.  If she had nice, normal B-ish size breasts, of the sort which fall to the side a tad when she is on her back, that would be a natural spot for a nipple.  I think the problem is the horrible photoshopping of her boob into a cantelope.  Furthermore, her right boob cleavage has been ‘shopped out.

  22. MikiS says:

For anyone interested in Whiddon’s Magic series, she actually has a “boxed set” of all 5 of the books for $9.99, which is better than the $2.99 separate prices.  I found them at B&N, but I imagine they’d be at the other sites as well.

  23. that breast looks like a knee (or his shoulder). So not sexy.

  24. Cora Buhlert says:

You just made my day with the Shanna Swendson news. I’ve been waiting to read the rest of the Enchanted Inc. series for four years now.
