  • Bombshell

    Bombshell by C.D. Reiss

    Author: C.D. Reiss
Released: May 1, 2017 by Montlake Romance
    Genre: ,
    Series: Hollywood A-List #1

From New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss, a standalone romance about a nanny, a Hollywood star, and a love they never expected.

Hollywood bad boy Brad Sinclair always gets his way, whether it’s the role he wants or the bikini-clad model he has to have. But when a bombshell gets dropped in his lap in the form of a dimpled five-year-old from a forgotten relationship, he knows his life is about to change forever.

Cara DuMont isn’t exactly thrilled when she gets assigned to be the nanny for the latest box-office king. She has one rule: no celebrity fathers, especially single ones with devilish good looks and rock-hard abs.

But as soon as Cara meets Brad and his adorable little girl, she knows she’s in for a world of trouble. Because there’s something about the way Brad looks at her that makes her believe that some rules are meant to be broken…

Elyse says: I’m being sucked in by the famous actor/nanny plotline. I mean she’s his kid’s nanny, not his. That would be weird.

She’s given a choice: do some dirty work for the mob, or have her brother returned to her in tiny pieces.

Renting souls is big business for the religious population of Gem City. Those looking to take part in immoral—or even illegal—activity can borrow someone else’s soul, for a price, and sin without consequence.

To save her brother, Callie needs a borrowed soul, but she doesn’t have anywhere near the money to pay for it. The slimy Soul Charmer is willing to barter, but accepting his offer will force Callie into a dangerous world of magic she isn’t ready for.

With the help of the guarded but undeniably attractive Derek—whose allegiance to the Charmer wavers as his connection to Callie grows—she’ll have to walk a tight line, avoid pissing off the bad guys, all while struggling to determine what her loyalty to her family’s really worth.

When you go to Greece to meet your family but end up making out with your smokin’ hot tour guide #sorrynotsorry

Being adopted never made Jane Smith feel unloved, just unlike the rest of her family. As her twenty-fifth birthday approaches, she is struck by an overwhelming longing to finally find her place in the world. So in a very un-Jane-like move, she books a last-minute ticket to Greece to find her birth father and the real Jane. All she knows about him is it that he was a tour guide named Dimitri. Armed with this knowledge and several surprise boxes of condoms from her mom (not embarrassing at all), Jane takes off.

Within minutes of landing she makes two important discoveries. First, everyone in Greece is named Dimitri, and second, fate might be playing a sick joke on her when a sexy tour guide called Dimitri comes to fetch her from the airport. He offers to help Jane with her search—if she’ll go on an adventure with him. Stable Jane would never risk a steamy vacation romance. But real Jane might finally be ready to listen to her heart. Will Jane find her biological father, or will she end up finding something else entirely?

Sarah says: The tagline: When you go to Greece to meet your family but end up making out with your smokin’ hot tour guide #sorrynotsorry.

  • The Fact of a Body

The Fact of a Body by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich

    Author: Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich
Released: May 16, 2017 by Flatiron Books
    Genre:

A young law student, an unspeakable crime, and a past that refuses to stay buried.

Before Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich begins a summer job at a law firm in Louisiana, working on the retrial defense of death-row convicted murderer and child molester Ricky Langley, she thinks her position is clear. The child of two lawyers, she is staunchly anti-death penalty. But the moment Ricky’s face flashes on the screen as she reviews old tapes, the moment she hears him speak of his crimes, she is overcome with the feeling of wanting him to die. Shocked by her reaction, she digs deeper and deeper into the case, realizing that despite their vastly different circumstances, something in his story is unsettlingly, uncannily familiar.

Crime, even the darkest and must unsayable acts, can happen to any one of us. As Alexandria pours over the facts of the murder, she finds herself thrust into the complicated narrative of Ricky’s childhood. And by examining the details of Ricky’s case, she is forced to face her own story, to unearth long-buried family secrets, to reckon with how her own past colors her view of Ricky’s crime.

But Alexandria is not alone in interpreting the crime through her own life. The judge, the jury foreman, even the victim’s mother and the defense attorney—all see what happened through their own lens of experience. The trial that took place was about Ricky’s past, but also the pasts of everyone touched by the murder. In Alexandria’s hands, THE FACT OF A BODY becomes a book not only about how the story of one crime was constructed—but about how we understand our past, the nature of forgiveness, and if a single narrative can ever really contain something as definitive as the truth.

In the thrilling tradition of IN COLD BLOOD, MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL and recent runaway phenoms MAKING A MURDERER and SERIAL, THE FACT OF A BODY is a groundbreaking, heart stopping investigation years in the making that shows how the law is comprised of individual stories and therefore more personal than we like to imagine, and serves as proof that arriving at truth is more complicated, and powerful, than we could ever imagine.

Amanda says: This true crime/memoir is one of most anticipated books of 2017.

  • Buns

    Buns by Alice Clayton

    Author: Alice Clayton
Released: May 23, 2017 by Gallery Books
    Genre: ,
    Series: Hudson Valley #3

Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….

Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

    It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

Amanda says: This series is so funny and sexy. I’m not sure if this is the last book in the series and if so, I wonder what Clayton has in store next.

  • Romancing the Throne

Romancing the Throne by Nadine Jolie Courtney

    Author: Nadine Jolie Courtney
Released: May 30, 2017 by Katherine Tegen Books
    Genre: ,

For the first time ever, the Weston sisters are at the same boarding school. After an administration scandal at Libby’s all-girls school threatens her chances at a top university, she decides to join Charlotte at posh and picturesque Sussex Park. Social-climbing Charlotte considers it her sisterly duty to bring Libby into her circle: Britain’s young elites, glamorous teens who vacation in Hong Kong and the South of France and are just as comfortable at a polo match as they are at a party.

It’s a social circle that just so happens to include handsome 17-year-old Prince Edward, heir to Britain’s throne.

Charlotte’s had her eye on Edward, and soon they’re snogging all over the campus lawn and common rooms—while Libby busies herself with settling into her studies and navigating the complicated social code of Sussex Park. Eager to put her sister at ease, Charlotte encourages Libby to hang out with her new boyfriend. And much to everyone’s surprise, Libby and Edward hit it off.

Actually, they really hit it off.

In this juicy, contemporary girl-meets-prince story, two sisters find themselves at odds over the same boy amid high-society expectations and paparazzi scandals. In the end, there may be a price to pay for romancing the throne . . . and more than one path to happily ever after.

Amanda says: First, I love the title. And second, I’m curious how two sisters fall for the same royal is going to go. Fingers cross that sisterly love wins out.

    Author: Helena Hunting
Released: May 30, 2017 by Swerve
    Genre: ,

Ruby Scott is months behind on rent and can’t seem to land a steady job. She has one chance to turn things around with a big audition. But instead of getting her big break, she gets sick as a dog and completely bombs it in the most humiliating fashion. All thanks to a mysterious, gorgeous guy who kissed—and then coughed on—her at a party the night before.

Luckily, her best friend might have found the perfect opportunity; a job staying at the lavish penthouse apartment of hotel magnate Bancroft Mills while he’s out of town, taking care of his exotic pets. But when the newly-evicted Ruby arrives to meet her new employer, it turns out Bane is the same guy who got her sick.

Seeing his role in Ruby’s dilemma, Bane offers her a permanent job as his live-in pet sitter until she can get back on her feet. Filled with hilariously awkward encounters and enough sexual tension to heat a New York City block, Shacking Up, from NYT and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting, is sure to keep you laughing and swooning all night long.

Amanda says: This contemporary seems like a fun, feel-good romance.

  • White Hot

    White Hot by Ilona Andrews

    Author: Ilona Andrews
Released: May 30, 2017 by Avon
    Genre:
    Series: Hidden Legacy #2

Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she’s used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family’s detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor “Mad” Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice . . .

Amanda says: I just finished the first book in this series and I am so on board! I think I may like this series more than Kate Daniels, which I know is a blasphemous thing to say.

  1. KateB says:

“Assassin’s Fate” by Robin Hobb, Book Three of the Fitz & the Fool Trilogy, sixteenth and FINAL book of the Realm of the Elderings series, is out May 9!

    I’m in tears already.

I’m Hold #43 of 108 on 17 copies (so far) of “Into the Water”, soooooo that book should do fine.

And “The Girl Who Knew Too Much” looks awesome!

  2. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

I want that orange dress on the Jane Ashford cover so bad! Like, I would wear it work. I could make a ball gown office appropriate somehow.

  3. Laurel says:

I feel lik I have been waiting for White Hot forever. I loved the first book so much I have read it at least 3 times (including the audiobook, which is really good). I think this is my most anticipated book of the year. I will probably download it & read it as soon as it is released, even if it means staying up all night.

  4. Ren Benton says:

    where Mulan meets Tamora Pierce

I would totally read a book about the adventures of Mulan and Tamora Pierce in feudal Japan. Just sayin’.

That cover for Flame in the Mist is one of those to which I alluded in a “YA fantasy is killing it in the cover department” comment a while back.

  5. Gigi says:

I just finished Burn for Me and I’m counting down the days until White Hot! And I’m super excited for A Court of Wings and Ruin. May is going to be hell on my wallet.

  6. I’m looking forward to New York, Actually by Sarah Morgan.

  7. Frances says:

On May 2 Sharon Lee & Steve Miller’s ” A Gathering Edge” will be released. It is the new story in their Liaden universe. I am looking forward to catching up with the further adventures of the Dragon and Tree clan, especially as I believe it focuses on Theo Waitley who is one of my favourite characters.
However the book I am most eagerly anticipating is “White Hot” by Ilona Andrews.which will be released on May 30. I too have read, and listened to, ” Burn for Me” ( book 1 in the series) at least 3 times.
Amanda Quick’s ” The Girl Who Knew too Much” also sounds intriguing.

  8. Kati says:

I con’t believe I have to work tomorrow when A Court of Wings and Ruin comes out. I should have taken the day off so I could just read all day. This is easily my most anticipated book of the year.

  9. Julia aka mizzelle says:

Gwenda Bond’s latest Lois Lane book Triple Threat is out today 5/1

Frances: Yay for another Liaden fan!

  10. JoS says:

Megan Whalen Turner. Thick As Thieves. Nuff said.

  11. DonnaMarie says:

I’ll see you all that and raise you:
Beauty Like The Night, Joanna Bourne. I’m the only one on tenterhooks for this one? Really?
Baby Come Back, M. O’Keefe continues her exploration of the gritty side, which is so completely NOT my catnip and yet soooo good.
Good Night From London, Jennifer Robson. Young reporter goes to London to cover WWII.
    Theft by Finding, David Sedaris.
Twist, Kylie Scott. Bartender hero. Meow.
In Skate Trouble, Kate Meader. Hockey Romance in time for the playoffs!
And to cap it all off: May 30 brings La Nora’s newest, Come Sundown. Holiday weekend plans made.
Busy, busy month. Luckily(/)8 hours of it will be on a plane.

  12. Sara Rider says:

I love Rachel Goodman (disclaimer: we share an editor but my love for her writing is legit). She writes complex female characters, and if foodie romances are your thing, then you will love her stuff. I’m excited to read this one.

White Hot is probably the book I’m most looking forward to this year. I never thought I could love something more than the Kate Daniels series but I think I’m with Amanda on this one.

  13. Lisa says:

Julia Quinn is a big time author but they can’t get a period dress right?!

  14. Can I just put my life on hold for a few months and do nothing but read? Is that too much to ask?

  15. ClaireC says:

May 30th is so far away – that’s the day that Beyond Doubt, a new Bren & Six novella from Kit Rocha comes out. They’re my favorite couple from that series.

Added The Girl Who Knew Too Much, and the Lady’s Traveling Society to my list as well! And thanks for the reminder to re-read Burn For Me before White Hot finally comes out.

  16. Sally says:

Eagerly awaiting White Hot and the new Kate Shugak by Dana Stabenow. It’s been soooooooo long!

  17. Joanna says:

The last Jo Beverly – so sad! Will definitely be picking that one up.

Also, can’t wait for City of Miracles, the final in the Divine Cities trilogy from Robert Jackson Bennett – comes out tomorrow.

  18. Crystal says:

Definitely interested in The Flame In the Mist (I’m sorry, did you say Mulan retelling….YESSSS get in my brain), Romancing the Throne (although the synopsis set off the bells in my head that read The Royal We), The Fact of a Body (hello, Imma need you on audio), Borrowed Souls (I need urban fantasy to get awesome again, since maybe it will light a fire under Jim Butcher’s ass and we can get that next Dresden File), and Buns (I like Clayton’s humor). Also anxiously waiting A Court of Wings and Ruin..no, YOU checked the “in processing” at the library three times today. I need my Rhysand. Come to Mama.

That said, the April book moratorium broke me of some bad habits, so I think I’ll be okay waiting on some of this. That and I have access to not one, not two, but three overdrive libraries. You can do pretty well that way, too.

  19. Kareni says:

    Lots of enticing choices!

And, DonnaMarie, you’re not the only one looking forward to Joanna Bourne’s Beauty Like The Night. Amazon is giving the date as August 1.

  20. Judy W. says:

Sign me up for the “White Hot” fan club here. I can’t believe their publishing house made them wait a YEAR before they would release this book. So they can save money promoting the next one in the same season? Their cheapness was my heartache. Thank Goodness the Andrews could come out with Innkeeper in the meantime. I am on tiptoe waiting for this book.

  21. Michelle says:

I second Megan Whalen Turner’s Thick as Thieves. Audible will be releasing the whole set, woo hoo.

  22. DonnaMarie says:

@Kareni, Noooooooooooooooo. Those $+*(#!’s @ Goodreads put it in my new releases feed as May 6. It’s been on my calendar for months now. The whole month is blown! Well, except for Buns and The Girl Who Knew Too Much and Baby Come Back and Come Sundown and I guess I have enough to keep me busy. Sigh… I’m over it.

  23. Samantha D says:

Can we declare May 30th a holiday? With the Julia Quinn and Ilona Andrews releases, I’m going to need some time off work.
