RECOMMENDED: All In by Simona Ahrnstedt is $1.99! Redheadedgirl gave the book an A:
I felt like this was full of Shakespearean drama, and scheming families, and hot sex, and gorgeous clothes, but also some important things to say about how the world is functioning. There’s a lot going on, though, and the ending a tad rushed.
A Wedding One Christmas by Therese Beharrie is $1.99! I believe today is the last day to get this sale, so grab it while you can. Lots of tropes here: holiday romance, fake relationships, and it takes place mostly in the span of 24-hours. Have you read this one?
Welcome to Lit Wicks! This is where we pair an author’s backlist with candles to really immerse yourself in the reading experience. All of the candles featured in these post are from Etsy, which means there is often worldwide shipping and that you’re supporting independent crafters and sellers. The Etsy candle rabbit hole is one I have gone down many times. One of my favorite types of heroes is the nature-loving hero. I’m not a … Continue reading Lit Wicks: Contemporary Outdoorsy Heroes
TW/CW for this book: sexual manipulation, emotional and physical abuse, and allusions to and discussion of child physical and sexual abuse. Summary: Jane Doe is a first-person POV thriller – author Victoria Helen Stone calls it “emotional suspense” in our podcast interview, and I think it’s an ideal term for this book. Jane is a sociopath. She knows it, and she’s done considerable research to figure out why and how she was different from other … Continue reading Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone
A Conspiracy of Whispers by Ada Harper is 99c at Amazon! This sale might be on its way out, but I’ve seen this all over the place on Twitter. It’s a scifi romance with an awesome cover. I believe it’s Harper’s debut. The next book of hers is due out in October and features a lesbian romance. Heck yeah!
RECOMMENDED: The Princess Bride by William Goldman is $2.99! This is a special illustrated edition of the book and the new cover looks absolutely gorgeous.Though, of course, because it’s illustrated, readers may want a hard copy of this rather than a digital one. We also recently ran a Squee from the Keeper Shelf review of The Princess Bride.
RECOMMENDED: Frisk Me by Lauren Layne is 99c! I reviewed this book last year and I obviously enjoyed it, seeing as how I gave it an A grade:
I really loved this book. It’s a nice break from the insta-love/lust that I’ve been reading lately, and I appreciated that the romance was the payoff of the book, rather than it being the driving force to deal with outside, external issues. This is a slow romance, too. No wham, bam, thank you ma’ams here. And admittedly, I spent a good portion of the book grinning like an idiot on the subway. I’ll give it to Layne; she can write some great dialogue.
The Sex, Love & Stiletto Series 4-Book Bundle by Lauren Layne is $8.99! This is the full Sex, Love & Stiletto contemporary romance series and averages out to around $2.25 per book! These books have a range of tropes: friends with benefits, enemies to lovers, and more. Plus, Layne writes some of my favorite dialogue in contemporary romances.
One in a Million by Jill Shalvis is $1.99 right now. This is book 12 in the Lucky Harbor series, and came out earlier this year.
This book has been nominated for a RITA®, and reviewer Mandi gave it a B- as it was her first experience with Lucky Harbor, saying, “There are some really great things about this book…. I can definitely see how long time readers may perceive this book as a heartwarming return and a fitting goodbye to a place they deeply cherish. But for this reader, it was just a cute distraction on my way to the next destination.”
Reviewer Mejdu gave it a B+, and said, “In the interest of full disclosure, Lucky Harbor is a real comfort collection for me. I’ve revisited the series on many occasions and have had many squees and swoons across the twelve-book arc.”
