You know how sometimes you pick up a book because it looks like fun, and then it turns out to be clever and funny and tender and tropey and still somehow unique, and you read it all in one sitting and hop straight onto the Kobo site after midnight to order the previous book in the series?
At a time when I didn’t have a lot of energy, I was gifted with pounds of joy, laughter, intrigue, and suspense. The Queer Principles of Kit Webb was a fresh approach to historical romance that made me fall in love with the genre again.
Welcome back to Cover Awe! This is where we gawk at pretty covers. Cover design by Red Raven Book Design Tara: I can’t get over how beautiful this cover is. Shana: That is lovely. Sarah: I have questions about that lipstick. Specifically which one it is because wow Gorgeous pink/red. Sneezy: Yes! And it looks so simple at first glance but everything comes together to look so warm and lush! Cover design by The Killian … Continue reading Cover Awe: Mystery, Caitriona Balfe, & More→
Even though at first I found this book to be slow going, I came to appreciate it for its intersectional feminism and its unabashed adoration of all the science and math that goes into making space flight possible.
Unmask Me If You Can by Shana Galen is $2.99 at Amazon! I’m unsure if this is an expiring deal or one that will eventually be price-matched. This is part of the Survivors series; we featured another book in this series on sale a few weeks ago. Maybe you all will be able to amass the whole set eventually.
RECOMMENDED: Death Below Stairs by Jennifer Ashley is $1.99! It was a previous book club pick and Sarah has great things to say about the series:
I love the whole series and it’s on my short (very short) list of books to give to friends who are grieving. Competence porn, women looking after one another, and a wonderful set of characters. And food porn too. High grade. Proceed with caution if hungry or do yourself a big gifty favor and read with snacks.
Crashing into Her by Mia Sosa is 99c! This is the third book in the Love on Cue series and can be read as a standalone. Readers say this one has a slow burn, but some felt it was a little slow for their liking. Have you read this one?
Foolish Bride by A.S. Fenichel is 99c at Amazon and Kobo! This is a second chance romance between two people who were supposed to get married. Some readers mentioned that the dialogue felt a bit too modern for a historical romance, but others really liked the heroine.
He’s Not My Boyfriend by Jackie Lau is 99c! This book was featured on Cover Awe because seriously, how adorable is that cover. If you want a quick, rom-com read, readers recommend this one. However, others wished the conflict was a bit stronger.
My Wicked Prince by Molly O’Keefe is $2.99 at Amazon! This is preorder and I believe O’Keefe said this sale is good for the preorder period (the next week) and then the first week of sale. You have time to decide if you want to bite the bullet on this one.
A Certain Age by Beatriz Williams is $1.99 at Amazon! Because the sale is only at Amazon right now, the sale might expire this afternoon. This is a historical fiction novel set in New York’s Jazz Age. This book was released earlier this summer and readers loved the sense of place Williams created. It’s also a retelling of an opera, which is pretty cool! However, others found the story a bit underwhelming compared to the jacket copy.
