734. Finding Fire Island with Jess Rothschild
Jess Rothschild is a podcaster and journalist, one of the founding writers at Autostraddle, and her latest project is a documentary podcast called Finding Fire Island, about the history of Fire Island, Cherry Grove, and the Pines. Her prior work includes The Cult of Body and Soul, about SoulCycle, and I love BOTH of these productions. Jess has been writing online longer than I have, and we talk about internet history, the process of making a … Continue reading 734. Finding Fire Island with Jess Rothschild
Friday Videos Will Miss the Frank, the Rooster, and the Butler
It seems hideously unfair to lose Dolly Parton and Tim Curry on same day, right? Like, what the hell? There are a LOT of Tim Curry landmark performances, which makes for a whopper of a career retrospective. It’s like a giant game of “Yes, and…” over the course of 40+ years. I’m really glad I’m not in charge of editing that video. Egads. Curry, like Dolly, was an icon, which is a rather neat concept because … Continue reading Friday Videos Will Miss the Frank, the Rooster, and the Butler

Supersized BoS: Earls, Small Town Romance, & More
Letters from the Last Apothecary by Bita Behzadi is $1.99! This one was put on my radar after LittyN in the comments made the recommendation. Definitely sounds like something up the Bitchery’s alley.
The Rec League: A Reverse Hallmark
This tough request came from Sue: Something like a reverse Hallmark movie where the girl goes back to her close minded small town and realizes it’s NOT for her. Sarah: Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters – One FMC moves to Portland from NYC to run her late aunt’s sex toy show. Granted Portland isn’t a small town but, well, the rest would be a spoiler. Book Lovers sort of plays with this idea, though doesn’t … Continue reading The Rec League: A Reverse Hallmark

Welcome back! How are we all doing? It’s September. Can you believe it? Did I say that last week about the end of August? Everything blurs together around this time anyway. I’m just thankful it’s starting to cool down where I’m at. We joined a local farm share and have an over abundance of peaches. Unfortunately, I have OAS (oral allergy syndrome) and a lot of raw fruits, especially stone fruits, make my mouth and … Continue reading Links: Rachel Reid, Podcasts, & More

Sirens, Small Town Romance, & More
Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver is $4.99! This is book one in a new series and it came out last year. Weaver’s books are pretty popular, so I won’t be surprised if there are still lots of holds. I do love Weaver’s blend of dark humor and romance, but often find the pacing to be a bit lopsided in her romances.

HaBO: She’s the Last Surviving Human
This HaBO is from Azaleah, who wants to find this sci-fi romance: I don’t remember any of their names but here are some plot points that I’ve kind of condensed. The Heroine’s Abduction: She is finally on a long-awaited beach vacation, feels a sharp stinging sensation in her neck, and completely blackouts. The Inciting Incident: She wakes up on an alien ship and is told a cosmic council destroyed Earth. She is the last surviving … Continue reading HaBO: She’s the Last Surviving Human
