Lady’s Guide to Skirting Scandal by Kelly Bowen

A Lady’s Guide to Skirting Scandal

I read A Lady’s Guide to Skirting Scandal at the dentist while waiting for two fillings. I’m horribly phobic about the dentist so when I say that this story was comforting, it’s high praise indeed. It’s too rushed to go down in literary history as the best story ever, but if you need a quick comfort read you can’t possibly do better than this tale of a social climber who falls madly and inconveniently in … Continue reading Lady’s Guide to Skirting Scandal by Kelly Bowen

Game Review: Regency Love

While all of us here at the Bitchery love Mario Kart, I would probably say I’m the gamer amongst us. I played World of Warcraft very seriously (Burning Crusade expansion) for end game content. At one point, I was the second best geared in my class on my server, first on Alliance side. (I’m sorry if this all sounds like a foreign language!) I frequently helped host LAN parties for Halo tournaments. My favorite game … Continue reading Game Review: Regency Love

HaBO: Hero Can Claim Fortune after Sex-Fest with Heroine

This HaBO request is from Catherine, who has a very thorough description of a historical romance: During the summers of 2011 & 2012 I read a ridiculous number of books (3-4 daily. Everyday. It, no I, was nuts). Now, normally I keep fairly extensive records of what I’ve read, but I can’t find the info for the book I’m looking for. Aside from my Garwood & Heyer glomfest, my records for the rest are, to my horror, … Continue reading HaBO: Hero Can Claim Fortune after Sex-Fest with Heroine

HaBO: Heroine’s Sister Really into Austin Powers

This HaBO comes from K, who is looking for a contemporary romance: I’m looking for a book that I read sometime around 2006 or 2007. I’m under the impression it was a relatively new release at the time, but I could be wrong. It was a contemporary, and the heroine was either Indian or Indian-American. Girlfriend was of Indian descent and living in America, is what I’m getting at, and I think it was California, … Continue reading HaBO: Heroine’s Sister Really into Austin Powers

Romance Readers’ Literary Tattoos, Part Two!

Featured image for Romance Readers’ Literary Tattoos, Part Two!

We had such a great time with our first Literary Tattoos post, and we had such an outpouring of more fabulous ink that we decided to do another one! There’s even a SBTB group tattoo in the works, if we can manage to all agree on a design. Maybe these pieces from readers and authors will give us some inspiration. Susan has a trail of books on the top of her foot, courtesy of Sharonn … Continue reading Romance Readers’ Literary Tattoos, Part Two!

Sweet, Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

Sweet Filthy Boy

I’ve been slow to the Christina Lauren bandwagon. Great things have been said. Elyse has reviewed two books in the Beautiful series and seemed to relatively enjoy them. But I’m always hesitant when an author has a very large, vocal following. I don’t want to hype to influence my reading, whether it’s going in with high expectations or increased wariness, because if I happen to not enjoy a much-loved book, I have to wonder what’s … Continue reading Sweet, Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

RedHeadedGirl’s Historical Kitchen: A Dish for Harlots and Ruffians

Isn’t that the best name for a dish you’ve ever heard? This is from a 15th century cookbook by Johannes Bockenheim (last name of various spellings) who was a cook to Pope Martin V. In it, he included notes on what type of person each recipe was best suited for- based on social class and/or nationality. Why this particular recipe is ideal for ruffians and harlots, I do not know. The truly unfortunate thing is that … Continue reading RedHeadedGirl’s Historical Kitchen: A Dish for Harlots and Ruffians

Another Mixed Bag with Contemporary, Historical, & Erotic Romances!

Books on Sale: Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey & More

RECOMMENDED: Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey is .99! This is book 1 in the Kowalskis series, and Sarah thinks it’s just terrific. She reviewed this book when it came out in 2010 and wrote, “I had such a good old time reading this book. There were some flaws to the plot but while reading it, I was charmed and giggly and totally absorbed. This book made me happy. That’s probably the best way to put it: it made me smile. A lot. Books like this are why I read romance.” It was a Sizzling Book Club selection as well. If you like contemporary comedy, this is a great deal.
