Last Night with the Earl is one of those books that, when upon finishing, made me wonder why the hell I waited so long to read it in the first place. It’s rich in emotional development and has one of the wittiest heroines I’ve ever read. My gripes are minor, and they could very well be due to my own decisions to read the series out of order. Eli Dawes is thought to be dead, … Continue reading Last Night with the Earl by Kelly Bowen →
Sleepless is an inventive and incredibly gorgeous romance told in two volumes, both of which are out now. It features one of the best love stories I’ve read in comics and with every page I exclaimed, “That dress tho!” The setting, a fantasy kingdom, is inspired by the Italian and Moroccan Renaissance. The heroine is a woman of color with a pet fennec fox. The hero is her bodyguard. Every page is frameable. The heroine, Poppy, … Continue reading Sleepless by Sarah Vaughn →
This guest review is from Lisa the Librarian: “Yes, I’m a librarian, and yes, being surrounded by books all day long is great. But it’s not “I-can-just-read-all-day” great as many people seem to assume. Oh, how I wish that were a thing! I would spend my days reading Regencies, funny contemporaries, cowboy romances, and all the other beautiful books I see every day. My favorite authors include Loretta Chase, Tessa Dare, Kristan Higgins, Eloisa James, … Continue reading Guest Review: The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary →
I started reading The Chai Factor with the expectation of a frothy, funny, and light-hearted rom-com. The blurb promised a barbershop quartet, after all! By the time I finished, I knew that I was both right and wrong. It’s a rom-com in every sense of the word: disastrous meet-cute (or a meet-disaster), comic and endearing secondary characters, witty and laughter-inducing dialogue, swoonworthy moments, and a well-earned happily after. TW/CW: It also deals with serious topics … Continue reading The Chai Factor by Farah Heron →
My day was very productive until I picked up Never-Contented Things, planning to read just a few pages. That concluded the day’s productivity. I’m not saying that this book is perfect but I am sure as heck saying that it is gripping. This is NOT a romance. It’s really good YA Urban Fantasy/Fae Horror, with a really good fledgling romance in it. Ksenia and Josh are foster siblings. They met in foster care when Josh was … Continue reading Never-Contented Things by Sarah Porter →
The Astronaut Wives Club is an excellent companion to Hidden Figures (nonfiction). While Hidden Figures discusses women who had an active role in NASA’s daily operations, The Astronaut Wives Club tells of the women behind the scenes. The wives of the astronauts formed a tight-knit group that supported each other through photoshoots, their husbands’ absences, terrifying space missions, and deaths. NASA’s first group of astronauts, The Mercury Seven, was announced in 1959. They were selected in an intensely … Continue reading The Astronaut Wives Club by Lily Koppel →

The Bride Test is very much a Cinderella story. It’s tender and so flippin’ sweet. As a book that I was really looking forward to since finishing The Kiss Quotient, it didn’t disappoint. Granted, there were more things that might bug some readers, but I loved this one even more than The Kiss Quotient. I didn’t even think that was possible. Khai Diep is the cousin of The Kiss Quotient’s hero and he has a … Continue reading The Bride Test by Helen Hoang →
Many of the Bitchery have been talking about Any Old Diamonds by K.J. Charles. Well, now we have a great guest review of it by Claudia. A bit about Claudia: “At sixteen, I found my older cousin’s stash of Barbara Cartlands and assorted Harlequin-type romance housed in an old sewing cabinet and life was never the same! I love history, so I mostly read historical romance. Favorite authors include Meredith Duran, Mary Balogh, Miranda Neville, … Continue reading Guest Review: Any Old Diamonds by K.J. Charles →
Ed note: This is a very brief, spoiler-free review from Carrie. Please maintain the spoiler-free zone in the comments. Enough people haven’t seen it yet that we don’t want anyone who hasn’t sought out the information for themselves to be spoiled. So please keep any and all comments spoiler free. Thanks! Well, here we are. Avengers: Endgame is out, I’ve seen it, and I feel all grown up. Consider this not so much of a review, as … Continue reading Avengers: Endgame (Spoiler Free Review) →
One of our keen readers suggested that I might enjoy A Curse So Dark and Lonely which is a romance-centric YA Beauty and the Beast retelling in which the heroine, a modern day teen with cerebral palsy, is transported to an alternate fairytale world and meets a Prince who periodically turns into a monster and eats everyone in sight. This keen reader thought I might like the book and the reader was not wrong. I liked … Continue reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer →
