So I loved Take a Hint, Dani Brown. How much? I joined the Bad Decisions Book Club on the reread. Which started right after I had finished it the first time. Yes. I knew exactly where the book was going to go and I could not put it down. Honestly, I’m reading it a third time. We here at the Pink Palace love Talia Hibbert. Kiki wrote a very beautiful review of the first book … Continue reading Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert →
This HaBO request is from Lianne, who is looking for an older fantasy/paranormal series: This is for a book that’s at least twenty years old (sorry). It’s a book in a series about romances between mer people and land people. One was set in ancient Greece, another was contemporary, but I’m looking for the book that was set in historical China, where the heroine was the mer, and the love interest is a Jewish doctor … Continue reading HaBO: Mermaids in Historical China →
RECOMMENDED: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune is $2.99! How fortuitous that Carrie’s review ran today! She gave it a B+:
I’m glad to have a book like this to read when it’s just all too much. Like Linus, who was slowly charmed by the world he entered, I loved this story so much that I did not want to leave when it ended.

Tonight at 7:30pm ET, join Amanda and I for more of what we’re calling Smart Twitches: Stardew Badly! We’ll be live streaming on Twitch as we play Stardew Valley co-op, which we’re not superb at but we have a really good time. And we’ll probably talk about food and drinking and whatever else. To join in, head over to Twitch.tv/SmartTwitches at 7:30pm. See you there – and please feel free to say hi in the … Continue reading Smart Twitches Stream: Tonight 7:30pm ET →
This HaBO comes from Megan, who is searching for a paranormal romance: I read a book at least 2 years ago. It was a contemporary wolf shifter novel with enemies to lovers trope. The heroine was the daughter of the prior alpha who is killed by the hero prior to the book starting, which is what elevates the hero to alpha. He allows a bunch of degenerate wolves to join the pack and the pack … Continue reading HaBO: Hero and Heroine are Both Alphas →
The House in the Cerulean Sea charmed me to pieces even though I’m not quite sure who the book is for. It’s written almost like a fable for children, with simple language and many heavy-handed explanations of its morals. However, the main character is an adult and themes include grinding bureaucracy and the numbness of everyday life. The book is not a romance novel specifically but it does involve a lovely m/m romance. I recommend … Continue reading The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune →
RECOMMENDED: Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin is $2.99! Carrie, who will read any and all Pride and Prejudice retellings, gave this one a B+:
Now THIS is how it’s done! Ayesha At Last is a lovely loose retelling of Pride and Prejudice, with a perfect mix of humor, heartbreak, misunderstandings, and humor. It’s a contemporary set in Canada and the characters are described with empathy and with plenty of surprises.

When I really love an author, I often try to pace out diving into their back list as much as my own self-control will allow, leaving me with some guaranteed, go-to winners for when I really need them. This strategy definitely paid off with Jeannie Lin’s The Dragon and The Pearl, the second book in her China-set Tang Dynasty series. Two deliciously complex characters locked in a steamy battle of wills in a well-rendered non-European … Continue reading The Dragon and the Pearl by Jeannie Lin →
Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. We did a Cover Reveal for this one, since it was such an interesting departure from Kearsley’s usual covers. Some readers felt this one was slow to start, while others loved Kearlsey’s beautiful writing. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

In the last podcast, Amanda and I talked about setting up a Smart Twitches gaming stream where we played games that involve farmsteading and/or smooching, because those are the games we’re most into. We’re going to try to stream today (21 June 2020) at 10:30 am ET for a bit, and we’ll set up a regular link/time/schedule in the future. If you want to watch us try to remember how to play Stardew Valley on … Continue reading Smart Twitches Test Stream →
