Romancing the Vote: July 1 – July 5

Romancing the Vote logo: Romancing in a pink script with The Vote in thin blue letters against a white backgroundRomancing the Vote is back and officially live!

This is recurring fundraiser supported by authors, crafters, artists, and more.

This year, proceeds will go to Vote Riders and the Southern Coalition for Social Justice.

They’ve also partnered with Rainbow Broomfield so this year’s auction is going to be extremely powerful.

There are consults, crafts, books, limited editions – it’s going to be intense.

This year, Sarah has donated a cross stitch and RTRW Guest host spot. We previously offered up a guest host spot, which was won by frequent commenter FashionablyEvil. We had a blast!

A 4.5" x 2.5" hand stitched tarot card for "The Reader" - clearly not a major arcana but it is now! This embroidery piece is mounted in a 9x7 frame that can be hung or displayed on a shelf. The card depicts an open book with stars, clouds, rainbows and hearts and is a design created by The Colourful Coven UK.

Sarah was also part of a group annotation of Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. This edition has a trove of marginalia mayhem from Rose Lerner, Lish McBride, Sarah Wendell, Alexandra Vasti, Emma Barry, Candy Tan, and Olivia Waite, who organized the annotation.

The cover of a special edition of Howl's Moving Castle with a dark purple castle on legs with dark smoke coming out of the top, walking across a domed hill. Below are illustrations of Howl holding a guitar, and SOphie with her walking stick and the tip is illuminated and has sparks coming out. The banner across the front reads ANNOTATED

Note from Sarah: This special edition of this book has one of the most romantic illustrations in the end papers and I could not stop looking at it.

The goal for the auction is $50,000.00, but by 10am they’ve already raised $14,042!

The auction will end July 5th, so keep that in mind when watching items.

Another note from Sarah: Y’all, there is a My Lady Jane behind the scenes photo book from the personal collection of showrunner Gemma Burgess. I loved that show!

And you can join a zoom with Courtney Milan telling you why Samuel Alito is a whiny pissbaby. Or buy a bottled fuck to give.

Do you see anything you want to bid on?

  2. LML says:

    @Amanda, at 10:00 a.m. $14,042 raised and by 3:10 p.m. $76,006. That’s impressive.

  3. DonnaMaire says:

Got my eye on a couple things, but I’m not telling. Someone might decide they want it too, and I can’t be in a bidding war with another member of the Bitchery.

  4. HeatherS says:

Oh, I know that signed copy of “Heated Rivalry” is going to go big. I’ll just make grabby hands at the computer screen. LOL

  5. denise says:

I’ve already bid on an item.

  6. Zuzus says:

The little dragon horde quilt. 😍

  7. mysdeefyme says:

I love the Buy It Now options because I can find great items and not worry about bidding wars.

  8. Msb says:

Are all the USians here registered to vote? If no, do it now, if yes, check your status with your local election official. States do purges of the rolls.
Once registered, make a plan to ensure that you cast a valid ballot, in person or by mail. Trump’s plan to rig the midterms is going badly at present, but keep an eye on the news to see if you need to revise your voting plan. Once you’ve done all that for yourself, help others to do it.

And Romancing the Vote is a great initiative.

  9. flchen1 says:

The amount of talent and creativity and hard work is mind boggling! Go, Team Democracy!

  10. Amy says:

The lamp from Courtney Milan looks quite yoni-ish and I am so here for it.

  11. flchen1 says:

Almost to $175,000 with less than 18 hours to go!
