All the info I have so far, I found it on kobo, but my kids wiped the recent searches by reading a bunch of kids books after.
The synopsis so far: main character Paige has lost her husband. In the first chapter, she is emptying the dishwasher and cuts her arm open.
She gets taken to hospital, and her parents join her. Her dad has a baby chicken and duck in his bag and they meet a guy with a broken nose, who plays a card game with the 10 yr old daughter (Hannah?).
Her parents were on the way to see their accountant, when the young daughter called them, so they went to the hospital.
The dad was carrying the chick as a gift for the accountant.
She mentioned Oxford (maybe they live there?)
Her husband had died and she’d found out he left her a large inheritance.
The synopsis of the book was something like, “when (MC) receives a large inheritance, she realizes she can use it for good.”
Sound familiar?
I built an entire (albeit cliched) premise off that subject line in which some doting-but-dying rich dad wants to secure his manic pixie dream daughter’s future by marrying her off to his staid (but secretly hot) accountant.
Romance has ruined me.
