This HaBO comes from Samantha, who wants to find this historical romance:
I am hoping you can help me identify a historical romance novel I have been searching for over the past three years since I got back into reading romance.
Here are the details I recall:
– Genre: Historical romance, road trip theme, grumpy/sunshine trope.
– Publication Date: Definitely written before 2006, and likely before 2003.
– Hero: Gruff and aristocratic, though he has been away from his home for an extended period.
– Heroine: Lower class, possibly red-haired, and provides comic relief.
– Plot: A road trip romance where the MMC is taking the FMC back to his home, seemingly against her will.
– Specific Scene: There is a moment where the FMC says something to the effect of, “Is that a watch fob in your pocket?”—referring to his erection.
I thought I knew this one, but the watch fob and year didn’t match with my guess. Let’s HaBO!

On the run so no time to check specifics (hair color, especially), so if someone could check that out, I’ll share HABO credit (assuming it’s correct). Judith Ivory’s “Untie My Heart” could be it. And I think that’s the one of hers where she ties him to the chair… IYKYK. Ivory is in the HR Hall of Fame (the one in my brain, anyway).
There’s been a number of reprints/e-copies so the cover may be different than remembered.
EDIT: Or maybe he ties her to the chair? Either way, onto the humongous TBR it goes for a well-deserved re-read.
Following.
Is this one of the Carsington books by Loretta Chase? Lord Perfect has a road trip and Last Night’s Scandal has a redhead.
@Betsydub: He ties her. It’s been a long time since I read this, but that scene is unforgettable. He was estranged from his father and living in Russia? and came home after his father died. His uncle tied up the estate and froze his funds, so she helped him run a con to get them back. They met up when she forged a check on his account and he saw opportunities. There’s a sort of O Henry type twist involving a carriage horse. Don’t remember this particular scene though.
