Real Men Knit
RECOMMENDED: Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson is $1.99! Shana and Carrie jointly reviewed this one and gave it a B:
This is a character-focused book and is all about the romance between Jesse and Kerry, as well as the importance of family, friendship, and community. Also there’s a lot of knitting.
When their foster-turned-adoptive mother suddenly dies, four brothers struggle to keep open the doors of her beloved Harlem knitting shop.
Jesse Strong is known for two things: his devotion to his adoptive mom, Mama Joy, and his reputation for breaking hearts. When Mama Joy unexpectedly passes away, he and his brothers have different plans for what to do with Strong Knits, their neighborhood knitting store. Jesse wants to keep the store open. His brothers want to tie off loose ends and close shop….
Part-time shop employee Kerry Fuller has kept her crush on Jesse a secret. When she overhears his impassioned plea to his brothers to keep the knitting shop open, she volunteers to help. Unlike Jesse, Kerry knows the “knitty-gritty” of the business, and together they make plans to reinvent Strong Knits for a new generation.
But the more time they spend together, the stronger the chemistry builds between them. Kerry, knowing Jesse’s history, doesn’t believe their relationship can last longer than she can knit one, purl two. But Jesse is determined to prove to her that he can be the man for her forever and always. After all, real men knit.

Satisfaction Guaranteed
RECOMMENDED: Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters is $2.99! Both Tara and Shana reviewed this one and gave it an A:
Shana: I stayed up late reading Satisfaction Guaranteed because I just couldn’t put it down. This book reminded me why I love contemporary romances—experiencing the heady rush of falling in love through characters that feel so real, they could walk off the page and into one of my dinner parties. Reading this brought me such joy.
Opposites attract in this playful and laugh-out-loud rom-com from Lambda Award finalist Karelia Stetz-Waters.
Cade Elgin has a life and career in New York City, and she’s determined to get back to both as soon as possible after her aunt’s funeral in Portland. However, when she unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s sex toy store — and has to save it from foreclosure — Cade realizes she’s not going anywhere. But making Share the Love profitable won’t be as easy as Cade had hoped. Her new partner has an infuriating lack of business sense, and an infuriating ability to turn Cade on.
Selena Mathis knows that nothing is more important than saving Share the Love. Not her pride, not her inconvenient attraction toward her new business partner. Cade may be more buttoned-up than Selena usually goes for, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know how to turn the store around. But the more they work together, the harder it becomes for Selena to ignore her growing feelings for Cade. And she starts to wonder if there is something more important than saving Share the Love.

Fortune’s Pawn
Fortune’s Pawn by Rachel Bach is $2.99! Catch this one as part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is a scifi novel by the pen name of Rachel Aaron. It has some strong romantic elements and, in the past, I’ve heard it described as Kate Daniels in space.
Devi Morris isn’t your average mercenary. She has plans. Big ones. And a ton of ambition. It’s a combination that’s going to get her killed one day – but not just yet.
That is, until she just gets a job on a tiny trade ship with a nasty reputation for surprises. The Glorious Fool isn’t misnamed: it likes to get into trouble, so much so that one year of security work under its captain is equal to five years everywhere else. With odds like that, Devi knows she’s found the perfect way to get the jump on the next part of her Plan. But the Fool doesn’t give up its secrets without a fight, and one year on this ship might be more than even Devi can handle.
If Sigouney Weaver in Alien met Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, you’d get Deviana Morris — a hot new mercenary earning her stripes to join an elite fighting force. Until one alien bite throws her whole future into jeopardy.

Dungeons and Drama
Dungeons and Drama by Kristy Boyce is $2.99! This is a YA romance with fake dating between two cute gaming nerds. I also think this cover is really joyful and adorable.
When it comes to romance, sometimes it doesn’t hurt to play games. A fun YA romcom full of fake dating hijinks!
Musical lover Riley has big aspirations to become a director on Broadway. Crucial to this plan is to bring back her high school’s spring musical, but when Riley takes her mom’s car without permission, she’s grounded and stuck with the worst punishment: spending her after-school hours working at her dad’s game shop.
Riley can’t waste her time working when she has a musical to save, so she convinces Nathan—a nerdy teen employee—to cover her shifts and, in exchange, she’ll flirt with him to make his gamer-girl crush jealous.
But Riley didn’t realize that meant joining Nathan’s Dungeons & Dragons game…or that role playing would be so fun. Soon, Riley starts to think that flirting with Nathan doesn’t require as much acting as she would’ve thought…

I really enjoyed DUNGEONS AND DRAMA. It’s like a love letter to gaming/comic book stores. Highly recommend! 🙂
Fortune’s Pawn is a comfort read for me, I re-read the series earlier this year. Enjoyable, hard sf with a romantic subplot. (Hard-ish… lots of details on weapons and armour, a little hand-waving on interstellar travel)
The issue with new responses not displaying seems to be happening on multiple posts (this post, yesterday’s craft focus and links post, yesterday’s books on sale post).
I really enjoyed DUNGEONS AND DRAMA. It’s very much like a love letter to gaming/comic book stores. Highly recommend! 🙂
Is Riley playing a lute? I would buy this book just for that alone!
All the praise for FORTUNE’S PAWN. Devi Morris is one of my favorite characters and brings to mind Ann Aguirre’s Sirantha Jax series, which I don’t hear much about these days. Both highly recommended.
Running into the problem that I’m not seeing recent responses to multiple posts (this one, for example. Also the “Crafty focus” post, yesterday’s book on sale post, and (I think) the links post).
The cover for “Fortune’s Pawn” totally belongs in a Cover Awe feature. It’s fantastic.
@flchen1 – thanks for the list of authors you snagged from “stuff your e-reader.” I encountered the sale via Amazon’s promotion on Friday and gave up about 50 pages in (if I remember correctly, there were 160+ pages of results). I either glided by or hadn’t yet reached the Emma Barry. *click*
@Deborah, you’re SO welcome. I find those so overwhelming, and have always appreciated when others have shared their picks. Glad to be able to help and happy reading!
