  • A Crown of Ivy and Glass

A Crown of Ivy and Glass by Claire Legrand

    Author: Claire Legrand
Released: May 9, 2023 by Sourcebooks Casablanca
    Genre: ,
    Series: The Middlemist Trilogy #1

Lady Gemma Ashbourne seemingly has it all. She’s young, gorgeous, and rich. Her family was Anointed by the gods, blessed with incredible abilities. But underneath her glittering façade, Gemma is deeply sad. Years ago, her sister Mara was taken to the Middlemist to guard against treacherous magic. Her mother abandoned the family. Her father and eldest sister, Farrin—embroiled in a deadly blood feud with the mysterious Bask family—often forget Gemma exists.

Worst of all, Gemma is the only Ashbourne to possess no magic. Instead, her body fights it like poison. Constantly ill, aching with loneliness, Gemma craves love and yearns to belong.

Then she meets the devastatingly handsome Talan d’Astier. His family destroyed themselves, seduced by a demon, and Talan, the only survivor, is determined to redeem their honor. Intrigued and enchanted, Gemma proposes a bargain: She’ll help Talan navigate high society if he helps her destroy the Basks. According to popular legend, a demon called The Man With the Three-Eyed Crown is behind the families’ blood feud—slay the demon, end the feud.

But attacks on the Middlemist are increasing. The plot against the Basks quickly spirals out of control. And something immense and terrifying is awakening in Gemma, drawing her inexorably toward Talan and an all-consuming passion that could destroy her—or show her the true strength of her power at last.

Amanda: It looks like my prediction of YA authors debut adult books is holding steady!

    Dark Succession by Katee Robert

    Author: Katee Robert
Released: May 9, 2023 by Forever
    Genre: , ,
    Series: The O'Malleys #1

The New York Times bestselling author of Radiant Sin delivers a smoking hot series about the O’Malley familywealthy, powerful, dangerous and seething with scandal.

Teague O’Malley hates everything associated with his family’s name. And when his father orders him to marry Callista Sheridan to create a “business” alliance, Teague’s ready to cut ties once and for all. But then Teague actually meets Callista, sees the bruises on her neck and the trauma in her eyes and vows he will do everything in his power to avenge her.

Everyone knows the O’Malleys are dangerous. But Callie wasn’t prepared for his brand of lethal grace and coiled power. His slightest touch scorches through her. But the closer they get, the more trouble they’re in. Because Callie’s keeping a dark secret—and what Teague doesn’t know could get him killed.

This is a re-release/rebrand of Robert’s The Marriage Contract. Press releases I’ve seen mention it has some updated language.

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I grabbed two books by Amelia Wilde this week. The first, FLIGHT RISK, is part of her Hill Family series. This is the first book in a trilogy about Jamison Hill and his relationship with Lilly, the granddaughter of a judge Jamison has reason to hate. FLIGHT RISK was scheduled for later this year, so I had overlooked its release date of April 25 until I saw it yesterday. The other Wilde book is HERO WORSHIP (released today), about a (somewhat) taboo relationship between cousins (one of whom was adopted as a teenager, so there’s no actual blood relationship). Wilde writes dark & angsty (very similar to her frequent writing partner, Skye Warren), so totally in my wheelhouse.

  2. KitBee says:

Ashley Weaver’s PLAYING IT SAFE is out today! It’s the third book in a mystery series set during World War II, and the heroine is a safecracker. I really enjoyed the first two books, and while they’re not romances, there’s definitely a a romantic subplot brewing.

  3. Maria F says:

The Favorite by Alice Coldbreath dropped yesterday. The latest in her Karadok (medievalish imaginary setting) series. I’d been looking forward to it and it did not disappoint!

  4. Lisa F says:

All are on my TBR pile. Still waiting for a Katee Roberts that really lands with me.

  5. Lynn says:

I’ve put both “A Crown of Ivy and Glass” and “The Quiet Stillness of Empty Houses” on my list but I’ll probably wait for a bit before I read them. The first one because it’s part of a trilogy and the latter one because I need to read some heavy spoilers first. Some reviews mention a shocking/twisty ending and I just cannot deal with that at the moment.

The sixth and final(?) book in Juliette Cross’ “Stay A Spell” series released on May 9th. It’s called “Grim and Bear It” and features a romance between an empath witch and a necromancer grim (reaper). Their romance has been hinted at since book 2 so I’m looking forward to finally getting them together. Overall the series has been a bit of a hit and miss for me but I still recommend it because there’s a couple/dynamic for everyone in there. The audiobooks are also fantastic.

  6. Kate says:

Tragic news: Bec McMaster’s latest, Thief of Dreams, is NOT being released this week and has been apparently pushed back to Jamuary. 🙁

  7. KatieK says:

The Claire Legrand book is showing on Amazon that it won’t be released until June 13, 2023. I also apparently already purchased the Katee Robert back in 2017. Who knew? And to Kate–NO! I hate your news of the push back on the Bec McMaster. That series is my favorite.

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@KatieK: Katee Robert is rereleasing her O’Malley Family series with new titles and covers.
