  • Georgie, All Along

Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn

Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn is $5.99! Now this isn’t a super big discount, but if you’re still stuck in the dreaded library hold queue and you’re eager to read it, this price is still cheaper than the usual $9.99 ebook or $16.95 paperback.

The acclaimed author of Love Lettering weaves a wise and witty new novel that echoes with timely questions about love, career, reconciling with the past, and finding your path while knowing your true worth.

Longtime personal assistant Georgie Mulcahy has made a career out of putting others before herself. When an unexpected upheaval sends her away from her hectic job in L.A. and back to her hometown, Georgie must confront an uncomfortable truth: her own wants and needs have always been a disconcertingly blank page.

But then Georgie comes across a forgotten artifact—a “friendfic” diary she wrote as a teenager, filled with possibilities she once imagined. To an overwhelmed Georgie, the diary’s simple, small-scale ideas are a lifeline—a guidebook for getting started on a new path.

Georgie’s plans hit a snag when she comes face to face with an unexpected roommate—Levi Fanning, onetime town troublemaker and current town hermit. But this quiet, grouchy man is more than just his reputation, and he offers to help Georgie with her quest. As the two make their way through her wishlist, Georgie begins to realize that what she truly wants might not be in the pages of her diary after all, but right by her side—if only they can both find a way to let go of the pasts that hold them back.

Honest and deeply emotional, Georgie, All Along is a smart, tender must-read for everyone who’s ever wondered about the life that got away . . .

  • Magic for Liars

Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey

Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey is $2.99! This is a fantasy novel where a non-magical heroine investigates a magical murder. One of my close friends gave this five stars and I trust her opinion. However, other readers on Goodreads say they were surprisingly a bit bored.

Ivy Gamble has never wanted to be magic. She is perfectly happy with her life—she has an almost-sustainable career as a private investigator, and an empty apartment, and a slight drinking problem. It’s a great life and she doesn’t wish she was like her estranged sister, the magically gifted professor Tabitha.

But when Ivy is hired to investigate the gruesome murder of a faculty member at Tabitha’s private academy, the stalwart detective starts to lose herself in the case, the life she could have had, and the answer to the mystery that seems just out of her reach.

  • The King’s Man

The King’s Man by Elizabeth Kingston

The King’s Man by Elizabeth Kingston is $2.99! This is the first book in the Welsh Blades series and features an enemies to lovers romance, plus a nursed back to health element. Readers recommend the audio version narrated by Nicholas Boulton and many liked the anti-hero-ness of the hero. However, some mention there are historical inaccuracies.

Ranulf Ombrier’s fame throughout 13th century England for his skill at swordplay is rivaled only by his notoriety as King Edward I’s favorite killer. Ranulf’s actions have gained him lands, title, and a lasting reputation as a hired butcher. But after years of doing his king’s bidding, he begins to fear for his mortal soul and follows his conscience away from Edward, all the way to the wilds of Wales.

Gwenllian of Ruardean, Welsh daughter of a powerful Marcher lord, has every reason to leave Ranulf for dead when one of her men nearly kills him. As a girl she was married by proxy to a man Ranulf murdered, only to become a widow before she ever met her groom. In the years since, she has shunned the life of a lady, instead studying warfare and combat at her mother’s behest. But she has also studied healing and this, with her sense of duty to knightly virtues, leads her to tend to Ranulf’s wounds.

Saving her enemy’s life comes with consequences, and Gwenllian and Ranulf are soon caught up in dangerous intrigue. Forced together by political machinations, they discover a kinship of spirit and a surprising, intense desire. But even hard-won love cannot thrive when loyalties are divided and the winds of rebellion sweep the land.

  • A Morbid Taste for Bones

A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters

RECOMMENDED: A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters is $1.99 at Amazon! This is book one in The Chronicles of Brother Cadfael series, which I remember Sarah enjoying. Here’s what she said:

This book and the next few books of the series got me through the scariest parts of early Quarantimes.

On an expedition to acquire a saint’s remains, Brother Cadfael instead finds intrigue and murder

It is 1137, and the ambitious head of Shrewsbury Abbey wishes to acquire the remains of Saint Winifred for the glory of his Benedictine order. Brother Cadfael is part of the expedition sent to the saint’s final resting place in Wales, where he finds the villagers divided over the Benedictines’ quest.

When the leading opponent to moving the grave is shot dead with a mysterious arrow, some believe Winifred herself delivered the blow. Brother Cadfael knows that an earthly hand did the killing. But he doesn’t know that his plan to root out a murderer may dig up a case of love and justice, where the waves of sin may be scandal—or his own ruin.

I really enjoyed GEORGIE, ALL ALONG, but I’m hoping a better price will come along since it’s hard to justify when I already read a library copy. If I hadn’t, I’d probably go for this.

One of my favourite reads from last year, Kennedy Ryan’s BEFORE I LET GO, is today’s Audible deal at $4.99. I snapped that one up.

  2. Megan says:

Is there anything special you need to do to get the $5.99 price for Georgie? My Amazon says $8.21 :/. Still better than $14.41…

  3. Karin says:

The synopsis of The King’s Man underplays what to me was the best and most distinctive thing about the book; the heroine who dresses and fights like a man, with great skill. She has confidence as a warrior, but none as a woman, because her face and figure are not conventionally atttractive. The characters’ inner thoughts and belief systems are medieval, but if you can get past that, it’s a great book.

  4. Kara says:

Georgie, All Along was just meh to me. I got it from my library, and then kindly read it in four days and promptly returned.

I own Magic for Liars, and I’ve never read it. The cover is just so ugly it’s off-putting. I’m totally judging a book by it’s cover and I’ll own my opinion.

  5. Susanna says:

I was very meh on Magic for Liars – I gave it 2.5 stars. Disliked the protagonist, whom I found whiny, quite a lot. Interesting world building, though.

I think I DNFed Magic for Liars. I remember the cover more than anything else in the book.

  10. LouiseFromBreese says:

I like the Brother Cadfael mysteries. They’re an easy read, and have a sly sense of humor.

  11. Msb says:

Big fan of Brother Cadfael here. These are very kind books, despite their setting in a time of civil war. They’re full of the beauty of the natural world, and there’s always a romance element. As long as you don’t have a problem with knowing that one of the young lovers is never the murderer, you’ll do fine with the mysteries. The first book is Peters finding her way. She hits her stride with the second, and never really loses it afterwards. I also enjoyed her book about Hotspur, Henry IV and the future Henry V – A Bloody Field by Shrewsbury.

  12. Kareni says:

I seem to recall having found Magic for Liars a pleasant read while still wishing for something more.

  13. LyraB says:

I can’t speak to the actual historical accuracy of the Kingston, but it is committed to its setting in a way that few romances are. Everything from the material context to the way characters think to the stakes feels grounded in its particular time and place. Pretty heavy, but I would wholeheartedly recommend all three books in the series
