  • People We Meet on Vacation

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

RECOMMENDED: People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry is $4.99! I feel like Henry’s romances rarely go on sale. Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B:

Because of the structure of the book, the focus on Poppy’s character growth, and the happy for now ending, I think readers will enjoy this book most if they approach it as romantic comedy. The banter alone makes this book a fun read, not to mention the locations and the supporting characters. Pack a bookmark and have a good time.

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read, a sparkling new novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

  • Savvy Sheldon Feels Good As Hell

Savvy Sheldon Feels Good As Hell by Taj McCoy

Savvy Sheldon Feels Good as Hell by Taj McCoy is $2.99! This was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet. I thought we had a review of this one, but maybe I’m just remembering Shana talking about it in our Slack channels.

    A delicious debut rom-com about a plus-size sweetheart who gets a full-life makeover after a brutal breakup.

Savvy Sheldon spends a lot of time tiptoeing around the cracks in her life: her high-stress and low-thanks job, her clueless boyfriend and the falling-apart kitchen she inherited from her beloved grandma—who taught her how to cook and how to love people by feeding them. But when Savvy’s world starts to crash down around her, she knows it’s time for some renovations.

Starting from the outside in, Savvy tackles her crumbling kitchen, her relationship with her body, her work–life balance (or lack thereof) and, last but not least, her love life. The only thing that doesn’t seem to require effort is her ride-or-die squad of friends. But as any home-reno-show junkie can tell you, something always falls apart during renovations. First, Savvy passes out during hot yoga. Then it turns out that the contractor she hires is the same sexy stranger she unintentionally offended by judging based on appearances. Worst of all, Savvy can’t seem to go anywhere without tripping over her ex and his latest “upgrade.” Savvy begins to realize that maybe she should’ve started her renovations the other way around: beginning with how she sees herself before building a love that lasts.

  • First Comes Like

First Comes Like by Alisha Rai

First Comes Like by Alisha Rai is $1.99! If you’ve been waiting for this to go on sale, now is your chance! Shana loved this one and gave it an A-:

My perfect pandemic read has enough drama to keep me guessing, but resolves conflicts before they stress me out. First Comes Like gave me everything I wanted, except for tips on moisturizing lipstick. Sadly, I’m still searching for my perfect shade. But if you’re looking for a trope-filled story with characters who overcome family expectations, First Comes Like was delightfully likable.

The author of The Right Swipe and Girl Gone Viral returns with a story about finding love in all the wrong inboxes…

Beauty expert and influencer Jia Ahmed has her eye on the prize: conquering the internet today, the entire makeup industry tomorrow, and finally, finally proving herself to her big opinionated family. She has little time for love, and even less time for the men in her private messages—until the day a certain international superstar slides into her DMs, and she falls hard and fast.

There’s just one wrinkle: he has no idea who she is.

The son of a powerful Bollywood family, soap opera star Dev Dixit is used to drama, but a strange woman who accuses him of wooing her online, well, that’s a new one. As much as he’d like to focus on his Hollywood fresh start, he can’t get Jia out of his head. Especially once he starts to suspect who might have used his famous name to catfish her…

When paparazzi blast their private business into the public eye, Dev is happy to engage in some friendly fake dating to calm the gossips and to dazzle her family. But as the whole world swoons over their relationship, Jia can’t help but wonder: Can an online romance-turned-offline-fauxmance ever become love in real life?

  • Flying Solo

    Flying Solo by Linda Holmes

Flying Solo by Linda Holmes is $2.99! This is more women’s fiction than romance, though Holmes’ books often have an element of romance to them. Did any of you read this one?

A woman returns to her small Maine hometown, uncovering family secrets that take her on a journey of self-discovery and new love, in this warm and charming novel from the New York Times best-selling author of Evvie Drake Starts Over.

Smarting from her recently cancelled wedding and about to turn 40, Laurie Sassalyn returns to her Maine hometown of Calcasset to handle the estate of her great-aunt Dot, a spirited adventurer who lived to be 90. Along with boxes of Polaroids and pottery, a mysterious wooden duck shows up at the bottom of a cedar chest. Laurie’s curiosity is piqued, especially after she finds a love letter to the never-married Dot that ends with the line, “And anyway, if you’re ever desperate, there are always ducks, darling.”

Laurie is told that the duck has no financial value. But after it disappears under suspicious circumstances, she feels compelled to figure out why anyone would steal a wooden duck — and why Dot kept it hidden away in the first place. Suddenly Laurie finds herself swept up in a righteous caper that has her negotiating with antiques dealers and con artists, going on after-hours dates at the local library, and reconnecting with her oldest friend and first love. Desperate to uncover her great-aunt’s secrets, Laurie must reckon with her past, her future, and ultimately embrace her own vision of flying solo.

  1. Jessi says:

I love Linda Holmes for her NPR podcast, and thought her first book (Evvie Drake Starts Over) was pretty good. This one was… fine? And definitely more of a “woman finds herself, with a bit of background romance” than what I’d consider a romance novel. I don’t regret reading it, but I don’t need to own it.

  2. Lisa F says:

I enjoyed Savvy Sheldon and the Rai was good!

  3. Dhana says:

I enjoyed Savvy Sheldon too but I will warn that Savvy losing weight is a big part of the plot – not just working out but also changing how she eats, etc. if you’re looking for a plus size heroine who loves her body as- is you might want to look elsewhere

  4. FashionablyEvil says:

I didn’t think FIRST COMES LIKE was one of Rai’s stronger books. I didn’t really buy the romance between the leads and the book was missing the deep friendships that are usually a hallmark of Rai’s work. The other two books in this series (THE RIGHT SWIPE and GIRL GONE VIRAL) are both better.
