Links: Mice, Mundane Halloween, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. We’ve made it to November! How are we all feeling?

I started seeing Christmas stuff event before Halloween was even over. I’m not anti-Christmas necessarily (though I don’t love a holiday romance), but can one ding dang holiday finish before we start celebrating another?! Especially one that is nearly two months away. Okay, end rant.

How did everyone’s Halloween go? My party plans were postponed, though my house was relatively peaceful. We don’t get many kids down my street. However, my partner went through two backs of candy (mainly Reese’s and Snickers) pretty quickly!

Did you know that the creator of Winnie the Pooh also wrote a mystery novel in 1922?

I believe I posted this last year or the year before, but a company in Japan hosts a “mundane Halloween” contest. You can see some of the entries here, as well as threads from the last few years.

Sometimes we just need to gaze upon photos of adorable mice! Let’s all enjoy the photography of Simon Dell.

Sometimes history is wild, especially this story about Hans Christian Andersen.

I believe this was posted in the comments a while ago, but it seems apt to bring it back up as we’re getting closer to Hallmark movie season: McSweeney’s “We are a Picturesque Small Town and We Refuse to Be the Setting for Your Romantic Comedy.”

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

So I like to watch documentaries. And last week I watched one about Leonardo da vinci’s Salvator Mundi, called the Lost Leonardo. It was superinteresting to watch it on many levels.

  2. Kris says:

On Halloween we had a young person dressed as a cowboy but what was totally adorable and unexpected, she was carrying her bearded dragon who was also dressed in western attire. Made our night and she got extra treats.

I’m not sure if everyone sees the same ads, because why would anyone outside Illinois want to see a political ad, but the juxtaposition of a reference to adorable mice right above Darren Bailey’s face was amusing to say the least.

Also, anyone who wants the facts about the SAFE-T Act can learn about this important legislation here:

I recommend Snopes for all your fact checking.

Argh. I asked that all political ads be blocked, but some tweak their settings to bypass such bans. I’m on it.

I mean if you’ve been around the internet at all in the last 2 days I’m not sure you could miss Heidi Klum’s worm costume, but just in case you haven’t seen it:
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2022/11/01/heidi-klum-halloween-costume-party/10656981002/

I’m by turns disgusted, amused and impressed by the artistry of the costume, but mostly inspired by her total commitment to it.

  6. Glen says:

Oddly, so did the creator of Paddington Bear. Michael Bond wrote a series of mysteries about an undercover critic and foodie called Monsieur Pamplemousse (Mr. Grapefruit) in the ‘80s. These are supposed to be humorous, but, judging by the one I read, it’s the worst parts of ‘80s humor. His cat, Pomme Frites (French Fries), is probably the best part, as he nudges his inept owner in the right direction while tomcatting around.

  7. LML says:

A.A. Milne’s mystery, The Red House Mystery, has been floating around on my kindle for a decade. That’s… rather embarrassing but easy to remedy. It may be out of copyright, because prices range from free to 90-cents.

I love Mundane Halloween. The “Twitter Engineer Just Fired by Elon Musk” made me lol 😀

  9. Miss Louisa says:

In Arizona, the ad I see is for Musinex

  10. EC Spurlock says:

The McSweeney’s article is not coming up when I click the link, it says the page doesn’t exist.

(Sent from the picturesque small town where EVERY Hallmark movie and numerous TV series is filmed.)
