  • The Devil and the Heiress

The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George

RECOMMENDED: The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is $1.99! Thank you to everyone who let us know about this one! This is book two in The Gilded Heiresses series and Elyse gave it an A-:

The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is a tropey historical romance with light conflict. It worked totally for me, but lately I’ve needed less darkness and fewer obstacles for the main characters to overcome in my reading.

Sparks fly when a runaway heiress bargains with a devilish rogue to escape a marriage of convenience.

No one would guess that beneath Violet Crenshaw’s ladylike demeanor lies the heart of a rebel. American heiresses looking to secure English lords must be on their best behavior, but Violet has other plans. She intends to flee London and the marriage her parents have arranged to become a published author–if only the wickedly handsome earl who inspired her most outrageously sinful character didn’t insist on coming with her.

Christian Halston, Earl of Leigh, has a scheme of his own: escort the surprisingly spirited dollar princess north and use every delicious moment in close quarters to convince Violet to marry him. Christian needs an heiress to rebuild his Scottish estate but the more time he spends with Violet, the more he realizes what he really needs is her–by his side, near his heart, in his bed.

Though Christian’s burning glances offer unholy temptation, Violet has no intention of surrendering herself or her newfound freedom in a permanent deal with the devil. It’s going to take more than pretty words to prove this fortune hunter’s love is true….

Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley

Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley is $1.99 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Ponto Beach Reunion series. The main characters were frenemies in high school, though agree to collab to help their growing YouTube and streaming channels.

Back in high school, Lily Wang wanted to be popular, but she considered herself lucky to be part of a tight group of oddballs and honors students called the Nerd Herd. Now, at twenty-eight, she feels like she’s finally on the cusp of succeeding as a beauty influencer—if she can hit five million subscribers, brands will take notice and she could get her own makeup line.

Fellow Nerd Herd alum Tobin Bui has had a lot of success as a YouTube gamer. But the road to online stardom has been rocky. First, he disappointed his parents by dropping out of college, and now, after years of pranks, skits, and playthroughs, he’s struggling to come up with new content to satisfy his ever-growing fan base. His agents say he needs cross-audience appeal, a new twist.

When Nerd Herd frenemy Lily approaches Tobin about teaming up to do a video to bolster her brand and reinvigorate his, he agrees. But when their first collab video goes viral, their relationship heats up too. With the whole internet watching, will these two former misfits finally realize they’re perfect together?

  • The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson is $2.99! This historical fiction is based on the real The Fugate family or “blue people” of the Appalachian Mountains and takes place during Roosevelt’s Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project. I remember this book being pretty buzzy when it first came out.

The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything—everything except books, that is.  Thanks to Roosevelt’s Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome’s got its very own  traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter.

Cussy’s not only a book woman, however,  she’s also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy’s family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.  If Cussy wants to bring the joy of books to the hill folks, she’s going to have to confront prejudice as old as the Appalachias and suspicion as deep as the holler.

Inspired by the true blue-skinned people of Kentucky and the brave and dedicated Kentucky Pack Horse library service of the 1930s, The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek is a story of raw courage,  fierce strength, and one woman’s belief that books can carry us anywhere — even back home.

  • Wicked Designs

    Wicked Designs by Lauren Smith

Wicked Designs by Lauren Smith is FREE! This book is the first in The League of Rogues series. If you already own this one, a couple more books in the series are also priced at 99c! Some readers mentioned being wary because of the kidnapping element of the plot, but many were won over by Smith’s writing.

The League of Rogues takes what they want—but have they taken on too much?

For too long Miss Emily Parr has been subject to the whims of her indebted uncle and the lecherous advances of his repulsive business partner. Her plan to be done with dominating men forever is simple—find herself a kind husband who will leave her to her books.

It seems an easy enough plan, until she is unexpectedly abducted by an incorrigible duke who hides a wounded spirit behind flashing green eyes.

Godric St. Laurent, Duke of Essex, spends countless nights at the club with his four best friends, and relishes the rakish reputation society has branded him with. He has no plans to marry anytime soon—if ever. But when he kidnaps an embezzler’s niece, the difficult debutante’s blend of sweetness and sharp tongue make him desperate for the one thing he swears he never wanted: love.

Yet as they surrender to passion, danger lurks in Godric’s shadowed past, waiting for him to drop his guard—and rob him of the woman he can’t live without.

Warning: This novel includes a lady who refuses to stay kidnapped, a devilish duke with a dark past, and an assortment of charming rogues who have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into.

The Devil and the Heiress reminds me a little of Georgette Heyer’s Sylvester, in that the heroine writes a book (which becomes very popular) and the villain has distinctive eyebrows, as does the hero (and his mother). And the hero’s silly widowed sister-in-law reads the book and assumes that Sylvester will try to get rid of her young son, as the villain in the book does.

  2. Susan S says:

Two thumbs up for The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. My whole book group loved it. It is a tough story with many twists. And my printing of the book had a bunch of historical background in it, which was also amazing.

  3. Hannah Bloom says:

THE BAD BOY EXPERIMENT by Reese Ryan is 1.99. It’s the sixth and final book in her Bourbon Brothers series—those books are really the best of new school, more diverse Harlequin Desire, IMO.

Run Posy Run by Cate C. Wells is FREE on Amazon.

I haven’t read it yet though I bought it when it first came out… I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t read much at all… but that doesn’t stop me from checking the sales and buying books & my TBR is growing all wild and beckoning to me…

  7. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I recommend grabbing RUN POSY RUN now (as @G notes, it’s free). Although this dark mafia romance is not as good as Wells’s Stonecut County or shifter books, it still has a number of the characteristics Wells is known for–most specifically, a hero who wants to do better but doesn’t always have the emotional bandwidth to do so without blunders. RUN POSY RUN is probably a freebie right now because the next book in the series, NICKY THE DRIVER, is scheduled for release this Friday–and I will so be there!

  8. trefoil says:

I DNFed The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek—strong content warning for sexual assault and familial violence.
