It’s my partner’s birthday this week and I am just brimming with excitement to celebrate. I did an artsy crafty thing for them and made a Princess Monoke-themed light up terrarium. They don’t regularly read the site unless I tell them, so I feel safe revealing it. I’ll be sure to post pictures next week. It’s the first time I’ve attempted such a project and I’m so happy with the results. I’ll also link the tutorial I used to help with logistics. Yay for YouTube!
We’re also making our way through June and the higher temperatures are becoming more and more regular. The boob sweat is upon us! Not loving that!

One last reminder that I’m doing a free event in Cambridge tomorrow evening! It’s a romance-themed Mad-Libs. Still very nervous about the whole thing, but I definitely think the anxiety leading up to it will be the worst part. I’ll have some books to give away and I believe Katalina Gamarra will have advanced copies of her debut Ben and Beatriz.

I finished watching Our Flag Means Death earlier this week, and have been badgering my daughter to watch it (I think it’d be right up her alley, but I admit I just want someone to squee over the characters with me). Then I found out we were getting a second season and ***AAAAAHHHH***! I am so excited, Pinterest and Tumblr and AO3 are the only things saving me from dying of lack of OFMD content right now.
I struggle with Our Flag Means Death because I just would rather watch Black Sails again (so much better, and even if they weren’t allowed to queer it up *as much* as they wanted to, it was still more accurately lgbtq than all previous pirate media) but I’m trying, despite it’s inaccuracies (I don’t mind the modern dialog, just feel like everything else should be stepped up if they’re going that route) and the always-galling idea that Blackbeard was the “greatest pirate ever” or whatever the advertising kept calling him. We all know he’s no Ching Shih.
But I’m trying, since people seem to like it so much. Hopefully episode three or whatever will win me over… I’d love to have another good addition to the fictional pirate canon, even a silly one.
