  • Brazen and the Beast

Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean

RECOMMENDED: Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean is $2.10 and book two in the Bareknuckle Bastards series. Carrie gave this one an A:

Well, that was just delightful. I loved every single minute of Brazen and the Beast, even the melodramatic bits.

    The Lady’s Plan

When Lady Henrietta Sedley declares her twenty-ninth year her own, she has plans to inherit her father’s business, to make her own fortune, and to live her own life. But first, she intends to experience a taste of the pleasure she’ll forgo as a confirmed spinster. Everything is going perfectly…until she discovers the most beautiful man she’s ever seen tied up in her carriage and threatening to ruin the Year of Hattie before it’s even begun.

    The Bastard’s Proposal

When he wakes in a carriage at Hattie’s feet, Whit, a king of Covent Garden known to all the world as Beast, can’t help but wonder about the strange woman who frees him—especially when he discovers she’s headed for a night of pleasure . . . on his turf. He is more than happy to offer Hattie all she desires…for a price.

    An Unexpected Passion

Soon, Hattie and Whit find themselves rivals in business and pleasure. She won’t give up her plans; he won’t give up his power . . . and neither of them sees that if they’re not careful, they’ll have no choice but to give up everything . . . including their hearts.

  • The Wallflower Wager

The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare

RECOMMENDED: The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare is $1.80! There was some debate on how the heroine’s trauma was handled in this one (feel free to check Goodreads and the comments of Carrie’s review). It earned an A- grade:

It’s fun, it has pathos, there are clothes both hilariously awful and droolingly lovely, it contains found family, and it has plentiful humor. A keeper, for sure.

They call him the Duke of Ruin.

To an undaunted wallflower, he’s just the beast next door.

Wealthy and ruthless, Gabriel Duke clawed his way from the lowliest slums to the pinnacle of high society—and now he wants to get even.

Loyal and passionate, Lady Penelope Campion never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn’t take into her home and her heart.

When her imposing—and attractive—new neighbor demands she clear out the rescued animals, Penny sets him a challenge. She will part with her precious charges, if he can find them loving homes.

Done, Gabriel says. How hard can it be to find homes for a few kittens?

    And a two-legged dog.

    And a foul-mouthed parrot.

    And a goat, an otter, a hedgehog . . .

Easier said than done, for a cold-blooded bastard who wouldn’t know a loving home from a workhouse. Soon he’s covered in cat hair, knee-deep in adorable, and bewitched by a shyly pretty spinster who defies his every attempt to resist. Now she’s set her mind and heart on saving him.

Not if he ruins her first.

  • My Kind of Earl

My Kind of Earl by Vivienne Lorret

My Kind of Earl by Vivienne Lorret is $1.80! This is book two in The Mating Habits of Scoundrels series. Elyse mentioned this in a previous Hide Your Wallet because she was very intrigued by the idea of the heroine starting a fight in a brothel.

USA Today bestselling author Vivienne Lorret continues her charming new trilogy with a bluestocking whose search for information on the mating habits of scoundrels has her stumbling upon the missing heir to an earldom… in the London underworld.

Jane Pickerington never intended to start a brawl in a brothel. She only wanted to research her book. Yet when her simple study of scoundrels goes awry, she finds herself coming to the rescue of a dark, enigmatic stranger… who turns out to be far more than an average rake out for a night of pleasure. He’s positively wild!

Only the most feral and cunning could have survived foundling homes and work houses. Orphaned as an infant, Raven never had another name. At least… not until he meets her. Now he’s face-to-face with the one person who recognizes the strange birthmark on his arm and can reinstate him to his blue-blooded birthright.

All at once, Raven’s life takes a turn. His knowledge of dark alleys and gaming hells never prepared him for gilded ballrooms. So Jane becomes his tutor. Yet, the more lessons in decorum she offers, the more this untamed scoundrel wants to teach her all the ways to be wicked.

  • Beauty Tempts the Beast

Beauty Tempts the Beast by Lorraine Heath

Beauty Tempts the Beast by Lorraine Heath is $2.10! This is part of the Sins for All Seasons historical romance series and we recently discussed this one on Cover Awe. It also features one of my favorite tropes: “seduction lessons” though I have a particular weakness for it being flipped, with the heroine being the teacher. If you have any recs for that, let me know below!

    She wants lessons in seduction

Althea Stanwick was a perfect lady destined to marry a wealthy lord, until betrayal left her family penniless. Though she’s lost friends, fortune, and respectability, Althea has gained a scandalous plan. If she can learn to seduce, she can obtain power over men and return to Society on her terms. She even has the perfect teacher in mind, a man whose sense of honor and dark good looks belie his nickname: Beast.

But desire like this can’t be taught

Benedict Trewlove may not know his parentage but he knows where he belongs—on the dark side of London, offering protection wherever it’s needed. Yet no woman has ever made such an outrageous request as this mysterious beauty. Althea is out of place amongst vice and sin, even if she offers a wicked temptation he can’t resist. But as the truth of his origin emerges at last, it will take a fierce, wild love to overcome their pasts.

  1. NomadiCat says:

I found BRAZEN AND THE BEAST kind of disappointing. I was looking for competence porn, and while everyone (and Hattie) TALKS ABOUT what a badass business lady she is, we didn’t get much of it on the page. Absolutely delightful romantic hijinks, yes. Sizzling chemistry, yes. Adorable side characters, yes.

It’s a charming book and this is a great price for it, but Hattie didn’t live up to the hype for me as a character.

  2. Ren Benton/Lena Brassard says:

Perfect timing—I’m nearly finished with the second book in that Tessa Dare series. *grabs the third* I didn’t care for the Stud Club starter that I read in between, but these are more fun.

  3. Lisa F says:

All of these but the Lorrett worked for me!

  4. Susan says:

There are a couple of Selena Montgomery (Stacey Abrams) books on sale for $1.99. Amazon has them marked as limited time deals, so I don’t know how long the sale has been in effect or when it will end.

  5. Hannah Bloom says:

THORNFRUIT by Felicia Davin is free! This is an F/F fantasy that Ellen gave a B+. It does have a cliffhanger, but the other two books in the trilogy are already written.

  6. Plumyum says:

I found THE WALLFLOWER WAGER to be really triggering and upsetting, definitely DNF. I wanted to read about cute kittens and instead ended up reading about predatory grooming and child sexual abuse- it was jarring and left me feeling gross. Maybe my bad for not looking at goodreads first, but I think a good example of why authors/publishers may benefit from including trigger warnings in books like this- I definitely didn’t feel like reading any more Tessa Dare after this experience which is a shame since she seems well loved!

  7. Karin says:

For flipping the “seduction lessons” trope, I recommend Theresa Romain’s “It Takes Two to Tangle” and “To Charm a Naughty Countess”. The second one especially, with an experienced heroine and a socially awkward virginal hero.
