  • The Widow of Rose House

The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller

RECOMMENDED: The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller is $2.99! Aarya loved this one and gave it an A-:

Try a sample of the first chapter; it hooked me instantly from the first paragraph and never let go. The Widow of Rose House is close to perfection and any lover of historical romance will adore this debut.

A young widow restores a dilapidated mansion with the assistance of a charming, eccentric genius, only to find the house is full of dangerous secrets in this effervescent Gilded Age debut novel

It’s 1875, and Alva Webster has perfected her stiff upper lip after three years of being pilloried in the presses of two continents over fleeing her abusive husband. Now his sudden death allows her to return to New York to make a fresh start, restoring Liefdehuis, a dilapidated Hyde Park mansion, and hopefully her reputation at the same time. However, fresh starts aren’t as easy as they seem, as Alva discovers when stories of a haunting at Liefdehuis begin to reach her. But Alva doesn’t believe in ghosts. So when the eccentric and brilliant professor, Samuel Moore, appears and informs her that he can get to the bottom of the mystery that surrounds Liefdehuis, she turns him down flat. She doesn’t need any more complications in her life―especially not a handsome, convention-flouting, scandal-raising one like Sam.

Unfortunately, though Alva is loath to admit it, Sam, a pioneer in electric lighting and a member of the nationally-adored Moore family of scientists, is the only one who can help. Together, the two delve into the tragic secrets wreathing Alva’s new home while Sam attempts to unlock Alva’s history―and her heart.

Set during the Gilded Age in New York City, The Widow of Rose House is a gorgeous debut by Diana Biller, with a darkly Victorian Gothic flair and an intrepid and resilient American heroine guaranteed to delight readers.

  • The Raven Prince

The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt

The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99 and part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals (which include more romance)! This book is much loved by historical romance readers, and has a 3.9-star average on GoodReads. Readers who love it especially like that the hero and heroine are both a bit unconventional: neither of them is superbly good-looking, a fact that has influenced their lives in several ways, and both are over thirty

There comes a time in a woman’s life when she must do the unthinkable – and find employment. For the widowed Anna Wren, that means taking a job as female secretary for the Earl of Swartingham.

Secretaries are always male – never female – as Anna well knows but the real downfall of her career is the realization that she is falling in love with Edward de Raaf – the Earl. But when she realizes that he is going to visit a brothel in London to take care of his ‘manly’ desires, Anna sees red – and decides to take advantage of the opportunity to also take care of her ‘womanly’ desires – with the Earl as her unknowing lover.

But the Earl has another reason for going to London. He is formalising his betrothal and trying (with little success) to forget about a secretary that has no right being female. Unhandsome, he knows that no woman wants him.

Except for the mysterious lady with whom he spent two unforgettable nights at Aphrodite’s Grotto, the most scandalous brothel in London. But when Anna’s plan is revealed, a bit of blackmail is thrown into the mix, a proposal is rejected and even the Earl himself will be unprepared for the intrigues that ensnare them.

  • North to You

North to You by Tif Marcelo

North to You by Tif Marcelo is $1.99! This book came out last summer and I was really excited about it. The heroine runs a food truck that’s in competition with the restaurant that belongs to the hero’s father. Marcelo is a debut author and the book, so far, has a lot of favorable reviews on Goodreads, averaging a 3.7 star rating.

In this warmhearted and charming debut from Tif Marcelo, a food truck chef and her long lost Army love clash when they cross paths in San Francisco.

Camille Marino has got a full plate. As the sole guardian of her eighteen-year-old sister and the head chef and owner of a food truck, she’s used to life being a juggling act. With food to cook, social media accounts to manage, and a little sister to look after, she doesn’t have time for much else.

That is, until Drew Bautista walks back into her life.

Drew is Camille’s former high school crush and he returns to San Francisco to repair his relationship with his father before he ships out for deployment. By helping his father renovate his failing Filipino restaurant, he hopes to win back his respect. But when sparks fly between Drew and Camille—his father’s major competition and sworn enemy—Drew is conflicted. Should he join his father in the war against her food truck? Or surrender to the woman who’s given him a second chance at love?

  • Mermaid Inn

    Mermaid Inn by Jenny Holiday

Mermaid Inn by Jenny Holiday is $3.99! This is the start to her Matchmaker Bay, a small town beachy series. The third book in the series is super on sale with $1.99! I’ve heard good things about this series, though I need to be in the right mood for a small town romance.

Escape to Matchmaker Bay in this hilarious and heartwarming second chance romance from the USA Today bestselling “master of witty banter” (Entertainment Weekly).

Eve Abbott has a problem–actually, make that a lot of problems. And they’re all going to get worse the moment her toes hit the sand in Matchmaker Bay. Once a blissful summer escape, now the tiny town just reminds Eve of loss. Inheriting her aunt’s beloved Mermaid Inn is the only reason Eve is coming back. She’s definitely not ready to handle nosy neighbors, extensive renovations, or the discovery that a certain heartbreaker still lives down the street…

Police Chief Sawyer Collins always does the right thing, even when it costs him everything. Like Evie. He’s spent the past ten years trying to forget her–to forget how right she felt in his arms, to forget the pain in her eyes the day she left. The last thing he expects is to see her back in town or to find that the spark between them is as strong as ever. Sawyer knows this is his only chance to prove that his feelings have always been real… before Eve turns tail and leaves for good.

‘Widow of Rose House’ seems like a great chaser to the ‘Magic in Manhattan’ cocktail. 🙂 Click!

  2. LisaM says:

I have the release date for the sequel to The Widow of Rose House marked on my TBR calendar (October 12th). The Brightest Star in Paris is a great title!

  3. Emily C says:

I really enjoyed Widow of Rose House, I thought it had a great ghost story that ran in tandem with the romance with neither overpowering or dominating the plot. I didn’t know this was first in a series so I’m excited to hear that. I can’t tell if the sequel will have any gothic or supernatural elements though, hoping it does.

  4. Nancy C says:

North To You actually came out in 2017. It is Marcelo’s first published book, but she has several out now. I loved this series–it made me so hungry for Filipino food!

  5. Malana says:

The Widow of Rose House was a DNF for me during Shutdown – should I try it again? I thought it was slow paced and the cinnamon roll hero was.. fine. But maybe I needed more excitement from my books during 2020?

Also, Tif Marcelo was NOT a debut author last summer. This book came out in 2017 and she’s had several since then. Was this copy and pasted from elsewhere or are we all stuck in some weird time-space continuum? (Possibly, yes)

  6. Hannah Bloom says:

MIDNIGHT ASSIGNMENT by Victoria Dahl, a novella featured in the “Unsexy Jobs” Rec League, is 99 cents, at least at Amazon.

  7. DonnaMarie says:

The Widow of Rose House was one of my top reads of 2019. I remember such a feeling of well being as I read. It was Good Book Noise© & Bad Decisions Book Club© rolled into one. I am also pretty excited for her next book.

  8. Dee says:

Love the Matchmaker Bay trilogy. Only wish there would be more.

  9. Laura says:

I run mostly meh with Elizabeth Hoyt but I really enjoyed The Raven Prince.

  10. Amanda says:

I did copy and paste my previous description when we had this one on sale. You can rest easy, Malana, that we’re not stuck in time!

  11. Star says:

I was really excited about North to You, but unfortunately I couldn’t make it past the first few chapters. The writing felt too amateurish.

  12. Lisa L says:

Bitchery, you are all so awesome 😀 I just grabbed The Widow from Libby. And PSA for all you ebook readers, my library has e-book reciprocity with FOUR other libraries here in Ontario as a result of clever librarians during covid. Maybe your library has done the same thing? I’ve been able to find ebooks that my system didn’t have – soooo happy

  13. Maureen says:

@DonnaMarie-I absolutely agree-I adored The Widow of Rose House, it was also one of my favorite books of the year. I borrowed it from the library, but just bought a copy and looking forward to reading it again.

  14. Lisa F says:

I liked all four of these!
