  • Playing House

    Playing House by Ruby Lang

RECOMMENDEDPlaying House by Ruby Lang is $2.99! Aarya gave it a B:

It’s a must-read for the summer if you’re looking for an adorable, empathetic, and joyful romance.

I encourage you to pick up Playing House to transport you into another world for a few hours. It might be the escape you desperately need; it certainly was for me.

Romance blossoms between two city planners posing as newlyweds in this first in a bright new series by acclaimed author Ruby Lang

The last thing Oliver Huang expects to see on the historic Mount Morris home tour is longtime acquaintance Fay Liu bustling up and kissing him hello. He’s happy to playact being a couple to save her from a pushy admirer. Fay’s beautiful, successful and smart, and if he’s being honest, Oliver has always had a bit of a thing for her.

    Maybe more than a bit.

Geeking out over architectural details is Oliver and Fay’s shared love language, and soon they’re touring pricey real estate across Upper Manhattan as the terribly faux but terribly charming couple Darling and Olly.

For the first time since being laid off from the job he loved, Oliver has something to look forward to. And for the first time since her divorce, Fay’s having fun.

Somewhere between the light-filled living rooms and spacious closets they’ve explored, this faux relationship just may have sparked some very real feelings. For Oliver and Fay, home truly is where their hearts are.

  • Get a Clue

Get a Clue by Jill Shalvis

Get a Clue by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This is a standalone contemporary romance with a hint of mystery. Readers say this isn’t her strongest romance, but both Sarah and Elyse have recommended Shalvis’s books for cozy, low angst romances to read.

When Breanne Mooreland gets left at the altar, she decides the best thing to do is to go on her honeymoon alone. Of course, she loses her luggage along the way and ends up snowed in at a Sierra mountains lodge run by a noticeably quirky staff. And before she can order room service, she finds a naked—and gorgeous—man taking a shower in her suite who refuses to leave . . .

Vice cop Cooper Scott is in serious need of a vacation. He’s not about to give up the only available room to a stranger because of a mix-up. They’ll just have to make the best of it by sharing the bed. They’re mature adults after all. But when Cooper wakes up kissing the long, leggy Breanne, he wants to show her exactly what the honeymoon suite is intended for. That will have to wait, though, because a screaming Breanne has just stumbled over one very dead body . . .

  • Ghosting

    Ghosting by Tash Skilton

Ghosting by Tash Skilton is $2.99! I enjoyed this book and would describe it as Cyrano de Bergerac meets online dating. I also had writing duo Tash Skilton on my contemporary romance panel for Bookstore Romance Day, and they were a blast.

For readers looking for the wit and heart of Mhairi McFarlane with the romance of You’ve Got Mail plus a savvy digital take on modern love a la Alisha Rai, Ghosting: A Love Story will check all the boxes.

“A sweet, genuinely funny, banter-filled delight of a rom-com.” —Kerry Winfrey, author of Waiting for Tom Hanks

Online Dating Ghostwriting Rules to Live by:

    • Do not present a “perfect” image. No one will trust it. Nor should they.

    • Think of your quirks—such as cosplaying B-movies from the 1980s—as a “Future Honesty.” Save these as a reward only for those who prove worthy.

    • Never remind the client you’re their voice. Once you’ve attracted a good match, let the client take over ASAP.

Dumped by his fiancée, not only is Miles couch-surfing across New York City, but downsizing has forced him to set up shop at a café. Also, he no longer believes in love. Not a good look in his line of work…ghostwriting for potential suitors on a failing dating site.

Zoey’s eccentric L.A. boss sent her packing to New York to “grow.” But beneath her chill Cali demeanor, Zoey’s terrified to venture beyond the café across the street…

The only thing Miles and Zoey think they share is their daily battle for Café Crudite’s last day-old biscotti. They don’t know they’re both creating “authentic” client profiles for rival online dating services. Nope, they have absolutely nothing in common. . . . until they meet anonymously online, texting on the clock.

Soon, with their clients headed for dating disaster, both Miles and Zoey’s jobs are at stake. And once they find out their lines have crossed, will their love connection be the real thing—or vanish into the ether?

  • Seven Years to Sin

Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day

Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day is $1.99! This is an erotic historical romance and the book actually inspired Day’s other romance Bared to You A | BN | K | G | AB ). Though readers mention the first half is a little slow, they enjoyed the chemistry between the hero and heroine. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

Seven years ago, on the eve of her wedding, Lady Jessica Sheffield witnessed a scene so scandalous she could not erase it from her memory. Shocked, yet strangely titillated, she nevertheless walked down the aisle into a life serene yet unremarkable. But what she kept hidden fueled wildly imaginative and very illicit dreams. . .

Alistair Caulfield ran far from the temptation of the prim debutante–all the way to the West Indies. As a successful merchant, he has little in common with the rakehell youth Jessica once knew. But when newly widowed Jessica steps aboard his ship for a transatlantic passage, seven years’ worth of denied pleasures are held in check by nothing more than a few layers of silk–and the certainty that surrender will consume them both. . .

  1. Lisa F says:

My pick’s either the Day or the Lang, both are great.

  2. Egged says:

Just a heads up that the Lang is novella length. I found it enjoyable, but predictable, and very low angst (which is great right now, I can’t deal with angst given everything.)

  3. DonnaMarie says:

Seven Years To Sin is hands down my favorite Day book.

  4. Lisa L says:

I’ve just grabbed the Lang from the library – thanks for the helpful info @Egged.

I recently read Ghosting and really enjoyed it. Some fantastically funny moments.

  5. Escapeologist says:

Ruby Lang is new to me and sounds like the fluffy fun my brain needs. Library has several of her books on hoopla, looks like most are 2.99 on kindle as well. This one in particular caught my eye:

Acute Reactions: An irresistible and uplifting romance (Practice Perfect Book 1)

THE MAN WITH ALLERGIES NEVER GETS THE GIRL
Or at least, that’s what restaurateur Ian Zamora believes. Too bad he’s allergic to his sometimes-girlfriend’s cat. To rid himself of his sensitivities, he visits allergist Petra Lale – never expecting to find himself attracted to the woman helping him.

Petra is intrigued by Ian’s quiet strength and sexy body, but her solo practice is new and struggling. She can’t afford to compromise her ethics – or risk her medical licence – by dating a patient.

Love is nothing to sneeze at, but Petra must decide if Ian is worth the risk. Or is curing herself of love worse than the disease?

This fun and sexy romance is ideal for fans of Christina Lauren and Alisha Rai.

‘Lang writes funny, feisty, and quirky characters finding love in all the wrong places.’ Alyssa Cole, award-winning author
