  • Cry Wolf

    Cry Wolf by Charlie Adhara

Cry Wolf by Charlie Adara is a KDD today at $1.99! This is book five in the Big Bad Wolf series, a series that has a LOT of fans. It has a 4.5+ star average (WOW) on GoodReads, and the series was recommended by Aarya in our Ready Set Go: Best Shifter Romance thread, too. Alas, I don’t know if you can jump in at book 5, but I’ve never held back from doing so when I’m curious about a book. Have you read this series?

Don’t miss this thrilling installment in Charlie Adhara’s suspenseful paranormal mystery series, Big Bad Wolf.

Agent Cooper Dayton never thought anything could be harder than solving murders. Until he had to plan a wedding.

After taking down an old adversary, Agent Cooper Dayton of the Bureau of Special Investigations has earned a break. Not that planning a wedding to his sexy shifter partner, Oliver Park, is necessarily stress free, but it’s better than worrying about the ominous warning, delivered months ago, that Cooper’s life is in danger.

When he’s dragged to an event by his family, Cooper braces for an awkward evening, but instead finds himself in the middle of an ugly feud between Park’s ex and a rebel pack leader. What was supposed to be a quick outing turns into a full-blown murder investigation after the pack leader ends up dead, Park’s ex goes missing, and Cooper and Park are sent a series of disturbing wedding gifts that are somehow connected to it all.

The list of potential suspects is long, and with the bodies piling up, Cooper must turn to the one person he trusts the least: the villain he’s already put behind bars once and who has nothing to lose by lying and everything to gain if Cooper is out of the picture—for good.

  • Lily

    Lily by Patricia Gaffney

Lily by Patricia Gaffney is $1.99!

Ok, so if you’re going for this one, there are a few things you’ll need to know. This is some Old Skool romance. This book was originally published in 1991 – so it’s thirty years old.

The cover copy mentions a “tormented and brooding” hero with “compelling masculinity.” Expect punishing kisses and SO MUCH ANGST. It’s been recommended in older columns as a Most Angsty romance of the Old Skool variety.

And there is NO denying this book is memorable: It was the subject of a Solved HaBO! If Old Skool Angst is your jam, proceed to sale, and enjoy.

A young noblewoman, fleeing from the darkness of her past, falls into life as a housemaid at a country manor—and into the arms of the lord who owns it.

Born a lady, but now orphaned and left to the care of distant relations, Lily Trehearne’s fortunes are low indeed. All she inherited from her spendthrift father is a tangled web of debt, and her ultra-pious guardian, the Reverend Roger Soames, seems determined to marry her off to his son Lewis.

Determined to save herself from that dreary fate, Lily panics and flees to Cornwall. Under the pseudonym Lily Troublefield, she accepts the first position she is offered, as a housemaid at the ominously named Darkstone Manor, property of Devon Darkwell. Lily’s new master is eccentric, deeply troubled . . . and strangely irresistible.

  • Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan is $1.99! You might have heard of this book – basis for the movie, massive bestseller, first in a series, 3.8 average on Goodreads.

If you’ve been curious, this sale may tempt you!

When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

Donna Hill’s “Confessions in B-Flat” is .99 at Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0879HJ7S6/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_T396CTBFE3X0J5ZNDPAT

I had it on my wishlist from a previous HYW: https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2020/11/novembers-new-releases-part-two/

So I haven’t read it, but I’m excited about this non-trad histrom on so many levels!

  3. Elham says:

I’m pretty sure this has been on Cover Snark before: “The Alpha’s Concubine” by Claudia King is currently FREE.

  4. Darlynne says:

I’ve only read CRY WOLF, but am already a fan of this series. Based on what is hinted at in that book, reading out of order might be confusing. My take was nothing is as it appears with its layers and secrets. Really enjoyed it.

  5. MaryK says:

I haven’t read Cry Wolf yet but have read the earlier books. I wouldn’t start with Cry Wolf just because you’ll miss all the relationship development goodness. Each book has a mystery/problem to be solved but the “real” story for romance readers is the relationship which progresses significantly in each book.

  6. G. says:

Donna Hill’s “Confessions in B-Flat” was 1.71EUR for me on Play Books, so THANK YOU for the info @omphale

  7. Drea says:

I agree with others that I wouldn’t read Cry Wolf out of order because the relationship development is so great. I usually don’t enjoy following the same couple in multiple books, but I’ve read this one several times. It’s great in audio too (Erik Bloomquist narrates) in case you are like me and find it hard to resist the buying the audio for $7.49 when you own the e-book.

  8. Sydneysider says:

Crazy Rich Asians is a good book, and worth picking up on sale. There are some things that the movie handled better, but there are some aspects of the book that are better.

  9. Darlynne says:

@MaryK, you’re right. I’ve only read the first, The Wolf at the Door. Thanks for clarifying that. Definitely start with the first.
