  • Night Hawk

    Night Hawk by Beverly Jenkins

Night Hawk by Beverly Jenkins is $3.99! This is my personal favorite Jenkins, but I realize that it was my first book I read by her and so I have some nostalgia attached to it. Do you have a favorite Jenkins?

Outlaw. Preacher. Night Hawk. He’s had many names, but he can’t escape the past.

Since Ian Vance’s beloved wife was murdered years ago, the hardened bounty hunter know she’ll never feel love or tenderness again, so he’s made it his mission to ensure others get their justice. But when he’s charged with delivering a sharp-eyed beauty to the law, Ian can’t help but feel he may still have something left to lose.

Orphaned at twelve, Maggie Freeman has always found her way out of trouble. But now there’s a vigilante mob at her back who would like nothing more than to see her hang for a crime she didn’t commit. Maggie may have to accept help for the first time in her life . . .even if it’s from the one man standing between her and freedom.

As the past closes in, the sassy prisoner and toughened lawman may just find a passion between them that could bring blinding happiness . . . if they’ll let it.

    Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

RECOMMENDEDAttachments by Rainbow Rowell is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal today and is being price-matched. Sarah really enjoyed this one and gave it an A-, though I know other readers found the hero to have some major boundary issues.

I read this book while flying, and fought the Ambien I’d taken to keep reading it. The best thing about the story is that it’s alarmingly easy to sink into. Epistolary novels work very well on me for that reason. It’s a point of view that, if I like the narrators (and I did), is extremely accessible to my imagination.

“Hi, I’m the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you …”

Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It’s company policy.) But they can’t quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O’Neill can’t believe this is his job now- reading other people’s e-mail. When he applied to be “internet security officer,” he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth’s and Jennifer’s messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can’t help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he’s falling for Beth, it’s way too late to introduce himself.

    What would he say …?

  • A Good Duke is Hard to Find

A Good Duke is Hard to Find by Christina Britton

A Good Duke is Hard to Find by Christina Britton is $1.99! This is also part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is the first book in the Isle of Synne series and I’m sure it’s pronounced “sin” but my mind went to “sine” and I, for one, will avoid an island of calculus. No thank you!

Get swept away by a Regency romance of broken engagements, second chances, and stolen kisses from the author whom Publishers Weekly calls “irresistible”.

After her third fiancé leaves her at the altar, Lenora Hartley is beginning to think she’s cursed. One thing’s for certain: she needs to escape London and her father’s tyrannical attempts to find her yet another suitor. The Isle of Synne, an isolated and idyllic retreat off Britain’s northern coast, is blessedly far from society’s gossip, but it also carries haunting reminders of her first fiancé. Letting go of the past to find happiness seems impossible—until Lenora is thrown in the path of a gruff, mysterious blue-eyed man who makes her pulse race.

Next in line for a dukedom he doesn’t want to inherit, Peter Ashford is only on the isle to exact revenge on the man who is responsible for his mother’s death. Once he’s completed the task, he’ll return to America where his life can finally be his own. Yet when he meets the beautiful and kind Miss Hartley, he can’t help but be drawn to her. Can Peter put aside his plans for vengeance for the woman who has come to mean everything to him?

  • His Perfect Partner

His Perfect Partner by Priscilla Oliveras

His Perfect Partner by Priscilla Oliveras is $2.99! This contemporary romance features a single dad hero and a dance teacher heroine. Sonali Dev recommended this on a previous podcast episode. She did mention that at times, the book felt more like women’s fiction with a focus on family than a romance.

Three very different Latina sisters. Three dazzling talents with ambition—and passion—to burn. And in this warm-hearted, sexy new series, three chances to figure out if the path to success can also lead to lasting love . . .

Ad executive Tomás Garcia shouldn’t even be thinking about his daughter’s alluring dance teacher, Yazmine Fernandez. Burned by a shattering divorce, he’s laser-focused on his career—and giving his young daughter, Maria, the secure home she deserves. Plus, he’s certain that with her talent, Yaz will be leaving Chicago and heading back to Broadway as soon as she can. But Yaz’s generous spirit and caring concern are sparking a desire Tomás can’t resist—and doesn’t want to let go . . .

For Yaz, good-looking workaholics like Tomás simply can’t be part of her life ever again. She owes it to herself to get back her confidence and fulfill the dreams her papá could not. She’s glad to spend time with Maria—and taste the family life she feels she can never have. And she’s sure that she and Tomás can keep their attraction under control because there’s so much at stake. But each unexpected intimacy, each self-revelation, makes the fire between them grow hotter with every step—and every risk to their hearts . . .

  1. Ren Benton says:

CW: The Rowell book includes a friend’s miscarriage. It’s not discussed in detail, but the plans for the future followed by the striking absence thereof is the one thing from the book that stuck with me, so not dwelling on it might not make it easier if that subject is a known issue for someone.

  2. Stefanie Magura says:

My first and favorite Beverly Jenkins book is Indigo. I have since gone on to read several others and thought they were excellent as well, but this is the one I texted my best friend that she had to read. And I am stupidly excited that more Beverly Jenkins audio books are being released. I bought more credits so I could pre-order them all.

  3. Ruth L says:

I saw that Hidden Figures is on sale for $1.99. Well worth it, even if you’ve seen the movie.

  4. chacha1 says:

I have read ‘His Perfect Partner’ and thought it dealt with the challenges of being a pro dancer quite well, but as a romance it didn’t quite work for me. There is a lot of Family, which is actually great because I haven’t had a chance to see much of that in a Latinx-centered story. But I came for a romance, and the development of the relationship didn’t get the air time I thought it needed. All that said, would read more by this author.

  5. Darlynne says:

    NIGHTHAWK is simply great.

  6. SusanH says:

I also felt that His Perfect Partner was very good women’s fiction, but not really a romance. I loved the family dynamics, and I remember thinking she did a good job of incorporating Spanish into the dialogue in a way that felt realistic and wasn’t clunky.

  7. HeatherS says:

The only Jenkins I’ve read thus far is “Vivid”, which is a big favorite with a lot of folks apparently, but I found the set up worked far better for me (she shoots his hat off his head after he basically calls her a prostitute at the train station and then tries to say she can’t be the town doctor! Apparently heroines shooting/at the hero is my catnip, since that was my favorite thing about LoS, too).

It felt like too many plot things were shoved into the back half of the book – too much going on, too quickly, with too many characters – and also there were times it felt like a history class info dump, rather than a natural part of the story, so my overall experience end up being just okay, rather than Keeper Shelf status. This could just be an early book issue and not a problem with later books she’s written, though.

That said, I have a big stack – including “Night Hawk” – from the Ripped Bodice that are waiting for me to dive into. Guess I know which one to start with now.

  8. Ellie says:

I haven’t read His Perfect Partner but I loved, loved, loved Island Affair by her. One of my favorites of the 200 + books I read in 2020.

  9. Stefanie Magura says:

Nighthawk is one of the ones I have read and found to be excellent as well.

  10. Arijo says:

Hello fellow Canadians, weeks later “Magnate” by Joanna Shupe is now on sale at Amazon CA, at 1.99$. (I recently came across the illustrated guide I bought when I visited a couple of the Newport mansions – the summer “cottages” of the Vanderbilts & co – and I feel an urge to read about the Guilded Age coming on…)

  11. Lisa F says:

His Perfect Partner and Nighthawk are both great.

I’ve refused to give RR money since the racist mess that is Eleanor and Park happened.
