Links: Horror, SNL, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Wednesday Links!

I went glamping in Maine this past weekend and it was a ton of fun. If you’re in the New England area and want a recommendation for a getaway, check out Tops’l Farm. Their camping season is almost up, but there’s alway next year!

I’m also starting back up at the bookstore for in-store work and I’m so excited to reconnect with my fellow booksellers and just get out of these four walls during the week.

Twitch update: Sarah and I stream on Twitch twice a week and have changed our schedule to Sundays and Wednesdays. I’m unable to make tonight’s stream, but Sarah might be streaming more of her Witcher 3 adventures later tonight. We’ll be back on Sunday to play more Stardew Valley, where our dreams of becoming wine barons are within our grasp!

If you need a quirky story with a sweet ending, I highly recommend this dive into a very bizarre Saturday Night Live sketch called “Stevie Nicks’ Fajita Roundup” starring Lucy Lawless.

On the Black Romance podcast, author D.L. White is doing a series of interviews with Vivian Stephens:

If you’re worried about older friends and family members during the pandemic, I found these suggestions on caring for older people during these circumstances to be pretty wonderful.

I’m not the biggest Ryan Murphy fan, but I am pretty stoked about his next project with Sarah Paulson: Ratched. SyFy’s Fangrrls does a great job tapping into the fascination with nurses when it comes to horror.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

One of my top 5 SNL sketches is Romance Bookstore, with John Cena.

It’s an oldie but a goody!

Fajita Roundup is my favorite snl sketch of all time, it’s a little weird how often I think of it, but it makes me so happy and that article was delightful!

If you’re into Hamilton & into Animal Crossing – there’s someone on the internet who is doing Animal Crossing videos of Hamilton songs. Here’s the opening number.

  4. Kate says:

@MsCellanie, thank you! I very much needed an AC version of Hamilton after the past couple weeks.

This link is old in internet time, but I found it when going down a rabbit hole. I still wish the NPR history department was publishing new content. https://www.npr.org/sections/npr-history-dept/2015/11/03/453972045/5-bestselling-writers-you-may-not-have-heard-of

The Washington Post touts Bridgerton as one of the best new series of fall, with no snarky comments about it being based on romance novels and with praise for the inclusive casting: https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/tv/fall-tv-show-recommendations/2020/09/09/dc19ec74-eaf4-11ea-ab4e-581edb849379_story.html?tid=pm_entertainment_pop

My husband had Kesey’s job a number of years later, He knew Big Nurse. He says Kesey did not exaggerate.

I think nurses, most of whom are good people, can be scary because they are very committed to doing what is best, they decided what is best, they can cause pain. Also because we go helpless into their hands.
