  • Racked and Stacked

Racked and Stacked by Lorelei James

Racked and Stacked by Lorelei James is $1.99! This is part of her Blacktop Cowboys series and can be read as a standalone. I’m more familiar with James’ erotic western romances, though I’m pretty sure this series isn’t as steamy as say her Rough Riders series.

Opposites don’t just attract in the West–they sizzle–and Wyoming has never been hotter than in the latest sexy Blacktop Cowboys® novel.

Growing up with three older brothers, Larissa “Riss” Thorpe defines the term tomboy–a moniker that never mattered to her until she crossed paths with sexy cowboy player Ike Palmer. Seeing him in action on the road, Riss can tell that Ike prefers his women soft-spoken and feminine. And since Riss is obviously not his type, it’s unlikely that they’ll mix business and pleasure when they’re in close quarters together.

Former cattle broker Ike Palmer was ready for a new chapter in his life as a stock contractor when he started working with Riss, a sassy truck driver who gets under his skin at every turn. But Riss is unlike any woman he’s ever met and her candor inflames him in the most unexpected ways.

After circumstances force a truce between them, Riss and Ike will have to choose to maintain the stubbornness that keeps them apart or take a chance on the fiery attraction that could lead to something more…

  • Into the Drowning Deep

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant

RECOMMENDED: Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price-matched. Elyse & I really enjoyed this horror/sci-fi novel. We jointly reviewed the book and ultimately decided on a B. We loved the cast of characters, but found the ending anticlimactic.

New York Times bestselling author Mira Grant, author of the renowned Newsflesh series, returns with a novel that takes us to a new world of ancient mysteries and mythological dangers come to life.

Seven years ago, the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a “mockumentary” bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy.

Now, a new crew has been assembled. But this time they’re not out to entertain. Some seek to validate their life’s work. Some seek the greatest hunt of all. Some seek the truth. But for the ambitious young scientist Victoria Stewart this is a voyage to uncover the fate of the sister she lost.

Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the waves.

But the secrets of the deep come with a price.

  • Semiosis

    Semiosis by Sue Burke

Semiosis by Sue Burke is $2.99! This is another KDD and is being price-matched. This scifi novel was featured in a previous Hide Your Wallet. Readers love all the science-y aspects of this book, while others felt it dragged down some of the momentum. It has a 3.9 star rating on Goodreads. This has been on my TBR pile for a while, though I heard the audiobook is great.

In this character driven novel of first contact by debut author Sue Burke, human survival hinges on an bizarre alliance.

Only mutual communication can forge an alliance with the planet’s sentient species and prove that mammals are more than tools.

Forced to land on a planet they aren’t prepared for, human colonists rely on their limited resources to survive. The planet provides a lush but inexplicable landscape—trees offer edible, addictive fruit one day and poison the next, while the ruins of an alien race are found entwined in the roots of a strange plant. Conflicts between generations arise as they struggle to understand one another and grapple with an unknowable alien intellect.

  • Perilous Trust

    Perilous Trust by Barbara Freethy

Perilous Trust by Barbara Freethy is 99c at select vendors! This is the first book in the romantic suspense Off the Grid: FBI series, and it features a second chance element. Readers said the action and suspense in this book made this one a quick read, though some found the dialogue to be a bit stilted.

It was one dark night that brought Damon Wolfe and Sophie Parker together. They were two tortured souls, looking for escape, and they weren’t supposed to see each other ever again…

Four years later, Sophie’s FBI father, who is also Damon’s mentor, is killed in a suspicious car crash after leaving Sophie a cryptic message to trust no one from the agency. When Damon shows up looking for her, she isn’t sure if he’s friend or enemy, but she knows he could easily rip apart what is left of her heart.

The last thing Damon wants is to get involved with Sophie again. It was hard enough to walk away the first time. But she’s in trouble, her father’s reputation is under attack, and the lives of his fellow agents are at stake if there’s a traitor in their midst.

When someone starts shooting at them, they have no choice but to go on the run and off the grid. Everyone in their world becomes a suspect. They want to uncover the truth, but will it turn out to be the last thing they expect? Proving her father’s innocence might just cost them their hearts…and their lives…

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

SEMIOSIS is very good, with excellent world-building, but it’s not a fast read. Take time to savor the story that continues through many generations. Also, there’s a character named Hig who I think, in another genre (or in fanfic perhaps), would make a good romantic hero.

  2. Susan says:

The Golden Tresses of the Dead, book 10 in Alan Bradley’s Flavia de Luce series, is on sale for $2.99. Other books in the series go on sale occasionally, but this is the first time I’ve seen a price drop for this one.

  3. Konst. says:

The Ultimate Pi Day Party (Baldwin Village Book 1) by Jackie Lau is $0 on amazon. Not sure, if this is a permanent offer…

  4. Lisa F says:

Blacktop Cowboy was pretty mediocre, as far as I can remember.

  5. DonnaMarie says:

I enjoyed Grant’s take on the mermaid myth. I had a quibble or two about the predictable nature of some story lines, but overall a really engrossing read that will make you think twice about being on the open ocean

  6. Jenny says:

@Konst: according to Jackie Lau’s twitter feed, the price will go back up soon (US$3.99, I think).

“RUSH”, the third book in Emma Scott’s City Lights series, is free on Amazon (at the moment). It is a New Adult about a blind man who was injured in a cliff-dive and a classically-trained violinist who was hired as his personal assistant after facing her own tragic event.

  7. EM says:

I loved INTO THE DROWNING DEEP so much! I’ve re-read it a bunch of times and love the Grant signature mix of science, humor, and horror
