  • Sweet Agony

    Sweet Agony by Charlotte Stein

RECOMMENDEDSweet Agony by Charlotte Stein is $1.99! Elyse squeed about this one:

I acknowledge that Sweet Agony won’t be for everyone. Some readers may just think Cyrian’s an asshole and that’s fine. For me, for my individual reading experience, it was perfect and I’m so happy I found it.

New job, new boss, and he’s cold, strict, but terribly attractive. Does Molly Parker stay or does she go? Because beneath Cyrian’s chilly front, there may be a heat that’ll burn her up.

    Giving in was vicious bliss.

The live-in position is an opportunity for Molly to earn and escape a problematic family. There’s just one drawback. Her employer is the most eccentric, aloof and closed off man she’s ever encountered. His rules are bizarre and his needs even more so, and caring for his ramshackle Dickensian home is far more than she ever bargained for. Only their increasingly intense conversations stop her heading for the door. Cyrian Harcroft is a man of many mysteries and secrets, and the more she learns the greedier she is for each and every one. Especially when she discovers his greatest fear: any kind of physical contact. Now all she has to do is dig a little deeper, to unearth the passion she knows he can feel…

  • A Duke in Disguise

A Duke in Disguise by Cat Sebastian

RECOMMENDEDA Duke In Disguise by Cat Sebastian is $3.99! This is part of the Regency Imposters series. Ellen reviewed this one and gave it an A-:

I have a hard time imagining any romance novel reader who wouldn’t appreciate and enjoy this book for one or more or many reasons.

    One reluctant heir

If anyone else had asked for his help publishing a naughty novel, Ash would have had the sense to say no. But he’s never been able to deny Verity Plum. Now he has his hands full illustrating a book and trying his damnedest not to fall in love with his best friend. The last thing he needs is to discover he’s a duke’s lost heir. Without a family or a proper education, he’s had to fight for his place in the world, and the idea of it—and Verity—being taken away from him chills him to the bone.

    One radical bookseller

All Verity wants is to keep her brother out of prison, her business afloat, and her hands off Ash. Lately it seems she’s not getting anything she wants. She knows from bitter experience that she isn’t cut out for romance, but the more time she spends with Ash, the more she wonders if maybe she’s been wrong about herself.

    One disaster waiting to happen

Ash has a month before his identity is exposed, and he plans to spend it with Verity. As they explore their long-buried passion, it becomes harder for Ash to face the music. Can Verity accept who Ash must become or will he turn away the only woman he’s ever loved?

Content Warning: off page domestic violence, off page neglect of child, epileptic seizure

  • Snowspelled

    Snowspelled by Stephanie Burgis

Snowspelled by Stephanie Burgis is $2.99! This is a fantasy romance novella and the first in a series. I also love this cover so much. Readers seemed to really like this one and their chief complaint seems to be that it was too short, but it’s lovely, atmospheric, and a great option for winter reading.

In nineteenth-century Angland, magic is reserved for gentlemen while ladies attend to the more practical business of politics. But Cassandra Harwood has never followed the rules…

Four months ago, Cassandra Harwood was the first woman magician in Angland, and she was betrothed to the brilliant, intense love of her life.

Now Cassandra is trapped in a snowbound house party deep in the elven dales, surrounded by bickering gentleman magicians, manipulative lady politicians, her own interfering family members, and, worst of all, her infuriatingly stubborn ex-fiancé, who refuses to understand that she’s given him up for his own good.

But the greatest danger of all lies outside the manor in the falling snow, where a powerful and malevolent elf-lord lurks…and Cassandra lost all of her own magic four months ago.

To save herself, Cassandra will have to discover exactly what inner powers she still possesses – and risk everything to win a new kind of happiness.

A witty and sparkling romantic fantasy novella that opens a brand-new series from the author of Kat, Incorrigible, Masks and Shadows and Congress of Secrets.

  • Tikka Chance on Me

Tikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder

RECOMMENDEDTikka Chance on Me by Suleikha Snyder is $2.99! Elyse reviewed this novella as a Lightning Review and gave it an A:

Despite its short length, the pacing, conflict and tropey-ness of Tikka Chance on Me fall into place perfectly, making it immensely satisfying.

He’s the bad-boy biker. She’s the good girl working in her family’s Indian restaurant. On the surface, nothing about Trucker Carrigan and Pinky Grover’s instant, incendiary, attraction makes sense. But when they peel away the layers and the assumptions—and their clothes—everything falls into place. The need. The want. The light. The laughter. They have more in common than they ever could’ve guessed. Is it enough? They won’t know until they take a chance on each other—and on love.

SNOWSPELLED was lovely in all ways–likable and believable characters, real conflict/soul-searching, and a satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed it very much. Also, thanks for the reminder that TIKKA CHANCE ON ME has languished for far too long in my TBR pile. Next up.

Snowspelled and A Duke in Disguise were two of my 2019 favorites. Snowspelled has great witty banter and competence porn and Cat Sebastian’s Regency Imposters series are all excellent—non-cis-het characters, found family and more witty banter. Both are delightful.

Sweet Agony isn’t new. I read it in 2016. I am looking forward to a new Stein, though.

THANK YOU! I remember Elyse’s Review of Sweet Agony, but couldn’t remember much more , save the part where the heroine is turned on by the way the hero speaks (can relate to that!). I was almost sending a HABO to find out the title!

Charlotte Stein hasn’t gone quite as radio silent as Cara McKenna, Jill Sorenson, or Anne Calhoun (how I miss all of them)—she had a short story in REINDEER GAMES, a 2018 Christmas-themed anthology—but I don’t recall seeing anything new from her for a while. I love her style: she takes circumstances that seem quite porny (a woman getting involved with male twins, for example) and, because everything is told from the heroine’s POV, makes it sensitive and erotic.
