  • A Prince on Paper

A Prince on Paper by Alyssa Cole

A Prince on Paper by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is the third book in Cole’s Reluctant Royals series. I’d say it can be read as a standalone, but characters from previous books definitely play a role. Elyse gave this one a B:

A Prince on Paper was a fun, fairytale romance, but it needed more resolution to totally satisfy me.

The Reluctant Royals series returns with a good girl searching for the life that’s not too big, and not too small, and the bad boy prince who might be just right for her…

Nya Jerami fled Thesolo for the glitz and glamour of NYC but discovered that her Prince Charming only exists in her virtual dating games. When Nya returns home for a royal wedding, she accidentally finds herself up close and personal—in bed—with the real-life celebrity prince who she loves to hate.

For Johan von Braustein, the red-headed step-prince of Liechtienbourg, acting as paparazzi bait is a ruse that protects his brother—the heir to the throne—and his own heart. When a royal referendum threatens his brother’s future, a fake engagement is the perfect way to keep the cameras on him.

Nya and Johan both have good reasons to avoid love, but as desires are laid bare behind palace doors, they must decide if their fake romance will lead to a happily-ever-after.

  • Wrapped Up in You

Wrapped Up in You by Jill Shalvis

Wrapped Up In You by Jill Shalvis is $2.99! This is the eighth book in the Heartbreaker Bay contemporary romance series. It’s also a small town holiday romance. Shalvis is an autobuy for a lot of readers and I know Elyse has had good experiences with her holiday romances specifically.

    It’s love. Trust me.

After a lifetime on the move, Ivy Snow is an expert in all things temporary—schools, friends, and way too many Mr. Wrongs. Now that she owns a successful taco truck in San Francisco and an apartment to call home, Ivy’s reinvented life is on solid ground. And she’s guarded against anything that can rock it. Like the realities of a past she’s worked hard to cover up. And especially Kel O’Donnell. Too hot not to set off alarms, he screams temporary. If only his whispers weren’t so delightfully naughty and irresistible.

Kel, an Idaho sheriff and ranch owner, is on vacay, but Ivy’s a spicy reason to give his short-terms plans a second thought. Best of all, she’s a tonic for his untrusting heart, burned once and still in repair. But when Ivy’s past intrudes on a perfect romance, Kel fears that everything she’s told him has been a perfect lie. Now, if only Ivy’s willing to share, Kel will fight for a true love story.

  • An Illusion of Thieves

An Illusion of Thieves by Cate Glass

An Illusion of Thieves by Cate Glass is $2.99! I mentioned this one in this May’s Hide Your Wallet about how awesome this sounded. I did wind up buying it, but of course, haven’t gotten around to reading it. Have you read this one?

In Cantagna, being a sorcerer is a death sentence.

Romy escapes her hardscrabble upbringing when she becomes courtesan to the Shadow Lord, a revolutionary noble who brings laws and comforts once reserved for the wealthy to all. When her brother, Neri, is caught thieving with the aid of magic, Romy’s aristocratic influence is the only thing that can spare his life—and the price is her banishment.

Now back in Beggar’s Ring, she has just her wits and her own long-hidden sorcery to help her and Neri survive. But when a plot to overthrow the Shadow Lord and incite civil war is uncovered, only Romy knows how to stop it. To do so, she’ll have to rely on newfound allies—a swordmaster, a silversmith, and her own thieving brother. And they’ll need the very thing that could condemn them all: magic.

  • My Oxford Year

My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan

RECOMMENDEDMy Oxford Year by Julia Whelan is $1.99! The film rights for this book have been purchased, so we might be getting an adaptation. Sarah also had something to say:

I recorded a podcast with Julia Whelan when the book came out and I just recorded a follow up where we take a very, very deep dive in the structure and writing of the book. If you’d like to read it before we spoil the dickens out of it (No actual Dickens, though) this is an excellent opportunity to grab your copy!

Set amidst the breathtaking beauty of Oxford, this sparkling debut novel tells the unforgettable story about a determined young woman eager to make her mark in the world and the handsome man who introduces her to an incredible love that will irrevocably alter her future—perfect for fans of JoJo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks.

American Ella Durran has had the same plan for her life since she was thirteen: Study at Oxford. At 24, she’s finally made it to England on a Rhodes Scholarship when she’s offered an unbelievable position in a rising political star’s presidential campaign. With the promise that she’ll work remotely and return to DC at the end of her Oxford year, she’s free to enjoy her Once in a Lifetime Experience. That is, until a smart-mouthed local who is too quick with his tongue and his car ruins her shirt and her first day.

When Ella discovers that her English literature course will be taught by none other than that same local, Jamie Davenport, she thinks for the first time that Oxford might not be all she’s envisioned. But a late-night drink reveals a connection she wasn’t anticipating finding and what begins as a casual fling soon develops into something much more when Ella learns Jamie has a life-changing secret.

Immediately, Ella is faced with a seemingly impossible decision: turn her back on the man she’s falling in love with to follow her political dreams or be there for him during a trial neither are truly prepared for. As the end of her year in Oxford rapidly approaches, Ella must decide if the dreams she’s always wanted are the same ones she’s now yearning for.

  1. Ren Benton says:

SWORDHEART by T. Kingfisher is $1.99, apparently all month. It’s a stealth romance novel in a fantasy guise. Woman accidentally summons a cursed warrior from an ancient sword, and he’s bound to help her escape from relatives who want the money she recently inherited. There’s a road trip! There’s acknowledgement of the messiness that she kinda owns him and he’s an intimidating brute and consent might be coercion-related on either side! There’s a nonbinary lawyer-priest! I was not expecting a romance novel from her, but it turned out to be a really good one.

  2. Wasn’t there a Black Friday/Cyber Monday Amazon promo that they ran last year for $5 off a $15 book? Does anyone know what that is this year?

  3. Ren Benton says:

@Mara: There’s a “spend $20 through December 4, get $5” deal you have to activate. I can’t get a link that’s less than a million characters, but if you go to the Kindle Book Deals page and scroll down a couple of rows, you should see the “Get $5 in ebook credit” thumbnail.

  4. @Ren Benton- Ah, sorry, I should have specified… I’m looking for the coupon they usually have for a physical book, not their ebook promo

  5. Denise says:

@Ren I googled the book based on your wonderful description. Do you have to have read her other works to understand the novel? Some of the descriptions said it takes place in another series of hers that I’ve never read.

  6. MaryK says:

There are a bunch of Charlotte Macleod ebooks on sale today. Some were previously hard-to-find before they were digitized.

  7. Susannah says:

@denise You do not have to read the other books in the series to enjoy Swordheart. I would heartily recommend them though.

  8. Ren Benton says:

@Denise: Swordheart is set in the same world as some other books of hers but is completely unrelated plot-wise. It stands alone just fine.

  9. HeatherS says:

“Striking Romance” by Lindsey Brooks is $2.99 on Kindle. I read the plot blurb and snapped it up.

“He sees her leading a labor rally and can’t look away. . .

Sarah Fischer has never relied on anyone but herself. Her father pulled her out of school at 13 to support her family by working in a shirtwaist factory. More than ten years of exploitation have taught her this: No one is coming to her rescue. If she wants labor reform, she’s going to have to organize it herself. She begins a general shirtwaist strike and is determined to see it through no matter the risks.

She sees a member of the government who has long ignored her plight. . .

Clifton Stokes is the mayor’s chief of staff and a rising political star. As long as he stays on Tammany Hall’s good side, he may have a shot at being mayor himself. Getting involved with a Jewish labor organizer is the worst thing Cliff could do for his career but the magnetic attraction between them is impossible to resist.

No good can come from their association. . .

When Tammany Hall learns of Cliff’s infatuation, they give him a choice: convince Sarah to end the strike or watch her suffer the consequences. Cliff sets out to protect her, but first he will have to earn her trust. Can he seduce her to distraction, or will she reform his heart?”

  10. Lisa F says:

The Cole is fabulous; I’ve never taken very well to Shalvis but I know lots of people are into her.

  11. Escapeologist says:

@Ren Benton: thank you for the Swordheart rec! I had tried the sample when it first came out – long time T. Kingfisher fangirl here – but it had a different feel than her earlier stuff, or I wasn’t in the right mood or something. Now it’s exactly what my frazzled brain needs. On chapter 10 and loving it.

TW/CW for emotional and physical abuse by the heroine’s horrible aunt. If you can get past that part in the sample, it gets better. The hero is hilarious in his old fashioned chivalry while hinting at a dark past, and his protectiveness of the heroine is delightful. She’s so refreshing, curvy middle aged woman with ADHD-like tendencies. BANTER Y’ALL. Excellent banter.
