  • The Duchess Deal

The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

RECOMMENDEDThe Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is the first book in the Girl Meets Duke series. Elyse really loved this book and gave it an A grade:

I totally recommend reading The Duchess Deal, but preferably while sober so you can really appreciate all of it. It’s the perfect blend of two of my favorite fairytale tropes, it’s got a hero who never an alpha-hole, it’s funny, and it’s got female friendship. What more could you want?

When girl meets Duke, their marriage breaks all the rules…

Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashbury’s to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London ne’er-do-wells by night. Now there’s a new item on the list. He needs an heir—which means he needs a wife. When Emma Gladstone, a vicar’s daughter turned seamstress, appears in his library wearing a wedding gown, he decides on the spot that she’ll do.

    His terms are simple:
    – They will be husband and wife by night only.
    – No lights, no kissing.
    – No questions about his battle scars.
    – Last, and most importantly… Once she’s pregnant with his heir, they need never share a bed again.

But Emma is no pushover. She has a few rules of her own:
    – They will have dinner together every evening.
    – With conversation.
    – And unlimited teasing.
    – Last, and most importantly… Once she’s seen the man beneath the scars, he can’t stop her from falling in love…

  • Your Scandalous Ways

Your Scandalous Ways by Loretta Chase

Your Scandalous Ways by Loretta Chase is still $1.99. This is book 1 (though some other places say it’s book two) of the Fallen Women series, and features a weary and somewhat oversexed spy who is sent to retrieve some letters from a courtesan. The letters belonged to her former husband, and she has no interest in the hero – until she does. Readers who gave this book four and five star reviews said the heroine is terrific – as is the fact that the book takes place in Venice.

James Cordier is all blue blood and entirely dangerous. He’s a master of disguise, a brilliant thief, a first-class lover—all for King and Country—and, by gad, he’s so weary of it. His last mission is to “acquire” a packet of incriminating letters from one notorious woman. Then he can return to London and meet sweet-natured heiresses—not adventuresses and fallen women.

Francesca Bonnard has weathered heartbreak, scorn, and scandal. She’s independent, happy, and definitely fallen; and she’s learned that “gentlemen” are more trouble than they’re worth. She can also see that her wildly attractive new neighbor is bad news.

But as bad as James is, there are others far worse also searching for Francesca’s letters. And suddenly nothing is simple—especially the nearly incendiary chemistry between the two most jaded, sinful souls in Europe. And just as suddenly, risking everything may be worth the prize.

  • Twice Bitten

    Twice Bitten by Lynsay Sands

Twice Bitten by Lynsay Sands is $2.99! This book came out earlier this year and is book twenty-seven in the Argeneau series. This book can be read as its own. Some readers say there’s more serious elements than they’re used to in this series. However, others say that Sands does a good job blending humor and romance.

Thrilling, witty, and oh-so-sexy, Lynsay Sands’ Argeneau novel brings together a beautiful Immortal and the man who is her destiny…

For someone who’s been around for over a hundred and forty years, immortal Elspeth Argeneau hasn’t done a whole lot of living. Now that she’s moved away from her controlling mother, she’s tracking down rogue vampires and enjoying some overdue freedom. A fling would be fun. A life mate can wait. Yet to Elspeth’s surprise, her landlady’s hot grandson checks both boxes.

Wyatt fell instantly in love with Elspeth four years ago. He’s stunned to run into her again, especially as she has no memory of him. Then again, there are a lot of things about Elspeth that don’t make sense, like the miraculous speed with which her wounds heal. And the chemistry that transforms every touch into an explosion of desire. With mysterious “accidents” besieging Elspeth, the ex-Special Forces soldier appoints himself her bodyguard. But time is running out to uncover the truth about her enemies—and rediscover the man determined to love her for eternity.

  • The Royal Treatment

The Royal Treatment by Melanie Summers

The Royal Treatment by Melanie Summers is 99c at Amazon! This is a contemporary royal romance with an enemies to lovers theme. If you’re looking for a romantic comedy, readers recommend this one. However, others wanted more conflict between the hero and heroine before falling in love. Also, content warning for suicide as part of backstory according to reviews.

Ultra-private, ridiculously handsome Crown Prince Arthur has always gotten by on his charm. But that won’t be enough now that the Royal Family is about to be ousted from power once and for all. When Prince Arthur has to rely on the one woman in the kingdom who hates him most, he must learn that earning the love of a nation means first risking his heart.

Twenty-eight-year-old Tessa Sharpe, a.k.a. The Royal Watchdog, hates everything about Prince Arthur. As far as she’s concerned, he’s an arrogant, lazy leech on the kingdom of Avonia. When he shocks the nation by giving her the keys to the castle, Tessa has no choice but to accept and move in for two months. It’s lust at first sight, but there’s no way she can give in to her feelings—not if she wants to have a career or a shred of pride left when her time at the palace ends…

Can two natural enemies find their forever in each other’s arms, or will they ruin each other to save themselves?

  1. Ren Benton says:

The first book in Loretta Chase’s Dressmakers series, SILK IS FOR SEDUCTION, is also $1.99.

I had YOUR SCANDALOUS WAYS in paperback, and although it didn’t make the cut in the no-more-than-will-fit-in-the-car move, I do think about it sometimes. If you’re looking for heroines who aren’t sweet and innocent, there you go.

  2. ms bookjunkie says:

A couple of Alan Bradley’s Flavia de Luce novels are $1.99. One is a KDD, the other might be a “hidden” KDD…? I Am Half-Sick of Shadows #4 and The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches #6

  3. Elise Elliot says:

You know, I have so plans to write historical, but damn if I don’t want a historical cover.

  4. LauraL says:

Seeing the covers of Your Scandalous Ways and The Duchess Deal made me do a happy sigh on this tiring work day. Two good reads, both with world-weary heroes.

  5. Brooke says:

That Duchess Deal cover–why is Justin Theroux on it…?

  6. Yeah, Twice Bitten has some DARK themes in it that I don’t think the author fully reckons with… like, yes, she acknowledges that it’s wrong & has a big impact on the heroine, but the implications of the conflict she sets up are basically making the heroine enslaved to someone for YEARS and denying her her fated mate, which in this world makes vampires go insane eventually. I don’t think the horror of the realities of that kind of mind control are fully worked out, so it left me feeling kind of uneasy and unsure about whether or not the heroine was really going to be OK. The romance was also very unconvincing- there’s not even a hint of a spark between 2 people who are supposed to be perfect for each other. I really like this series, but this was a weak entry– much weaker than the book that preceded it IMO

  7. Ellen says:

I personally loved Twice Bitten, despite how it didn’t fully deal with how serious the villain’s behaviour was. Overall it felt like a refreshing return to form, after some pretty ordinary installments.
This got back to the zany rom com style that made me fall in love with the series initially.
Despite how dark it was, it was dark in a real way, instead of vampire experimentation, and I can understand why the characters thought the resolution was good enough.

Plus it was only the third human male/vampire female story, and after the last one (The Lady is a Vamp) Wyatt was refreshingly okay with being human and weaker than the vampire women around him
