  • An Affair with Mr. Kennedy

An Affair with Mr. Kennedy by Jillian Stone

An Affair with Mr. Kennedy by Jillian Stone is 99c! And no, it’s not that Mr. Kennedy. This is a historical romance with some opposites attract elements. Readers say the mystery element is rather predictable, but others found this to be a great debut to a new series.

A scorching Victorian-era romance featuring a stoic Scotland Yard investigator and a beautiful painter—the debut novel from 2010 Golden Heart Award winner Jillian Stone.

Detective Zeno “Zak” Kennedy is considered a hero in London after breaking up a plot against the Crown. But villainy never sleeps, and he’s now after a ring of Irish anarchists plotting a bombing campaign. When he discovers that one of these treacherous lords is acquainted with his new tenant, widowed Cassie St. Cloud, he sets out to get closer to the lady.

Cassie is no Victorian prude; the daughter of two prominent doctors, she is a freethinking artist and a volunteer at a girls’ school. She’s set her sights on her handsome new landlord, and soon they’re enmeshed in the most passionate affair of her life. But when she discovers that their meeting was not purely accidental, will she be able to forgive him?

  • Flawless

    Flawless by Carrie Lofty

Flawless by Carrie Lofty is 99c! This is the first book in The Christies series. I’m a little hesitant about this book since it’s set during the colonization of South Africa and features the diamond trade. I didn’t see any Goodreads reviews that reflected negatively on the setting. I definitely want to know your thoughts if you’ve read it.

A passion this seductive is more precious
    than diamonds. . . .

Sir William Christie, ruthless tycoon and notorious ladies’ man, is dead. Now his four grown children have gathered for the reading of his will. What lies in store for half-siblings Vivienne, Alexander, and twins Gareth and Gwyneth? Stunning challenges that will test their fortitude across a royal empire…and lead them to the marvelously passionate adventures of their lives.

Lady Vivienne Bancroft fled England for New York, hoping to shed the confines of her arranged marriage to unrepentant rogue Miles Durham, Viscount Bancroft–though she never forgot the fiery desire he unleashed with his slightest touch. And when the gambling man arrives on her doorstep for a little sensual revenge for her desertion, he is met with Vivienne’s dilemma: she must earn her father’s inheritance by profitably running a diamond business worth millions in colonial South Africa.

Swept together in an exotic undertaking filled with heated passion and hungry temptation, will Vivienne and Miles discover that the marriage vows they once made are the greatest snare–or the most treasured reward?

  • The Five Deaths of Roxanne Love

The Five Deaths of Roxanne Love by Erin Quinn

The Five Deaths of Roxanne Love by Erin Quinn is 99c! This is the first book in the paranormal romance Beyond series. I’m always looking for new spins on the paranormal genre and this seems to fit the bill. Readers seem to be split on this one. Some felt it was imaginative, while others were bored.

In award-winning romance author Erin Quinn’s exiting new paranormal series, a woman who can’t die meets the man destined to kill her.

    She Cheated Death…

Roxanne Love isn’t human. At least not entirely. She tries to fit in but can’t conceal her ability to defy death—not from the world, not from heaven’s darkest creatures, and not from the Reaper determined to destroy her. Now Roxanne is on the run, her only ally a compelling, dangerous detective with secrets of his own. Against her will, she’s drawn to his quiet strength and heated touch. But can she trust him with the truth?

    …Until She Felt Death’s Kiss.

Incognito as guilt-ridden cop Santo Castillo, the Reaper’s plan is simple: get close to Roxanne, uncover the secret of her immortality, and cut it at the source. Yet with his borrowed body come emotions the Reaper hadn’t expected. Now nothing is clear but his conflicted desire to protect the woman he came to kill. As destiny forces them to face an enemy hell-bent on using Roxanne to wipe out all of mankind, she and Santo must choose between love…and salvation.

  • Incarnation

    Incarnation by Emma Cornwall

Incarnation by Emma Cornwall is 99c! This (I believe) is a steampunk novel. Or perhaps is a historically-set paranormal novel. I feel weird about calling it urban fantasy because I usually associate that more with a modern setting. I digress! This book is a bit of a continuation of Dracula. The heroine was the high point of this one, but readers said there was a lot of info to process.

Lucy Weston tracks down the novelist Bram Stroker in her search to reveal the dark force who made her a vampire—and regain her humanity in the process.

In the steampunk world of Victorian London, Lucy Weston, a character in Dracula, seeks out Bram Stoker to discover why he deliberately lied about her in his popular novel. With Stoker’s reluctant help, she tracks the creature who transformed her from the sensual underworld where humans vie to become vampires to a hidden cell beneath a temple to madness and finally into the glittering Crystal Palace where death reigns supreme.

Haunted by fragmentary memories of her lost life and love, Lucy battles her thirst for blood as she struggles to stop a catastrophic war that will doom vampires and humans alike. Ultimately, she makes a choice that illuminates for her—and for us—the true nature of what it means to be human.

Incarnation has a gorgeous cover. But it’ll have to wait because i just found out that book 5 of House of Rohan by Anne Stuart is out. I love that series. Ok, LOVED as in when i reread Breathless it was just so damn rapey that it’s a nope, but i like the series itself.

Flawless is a great book! I l loved Starlight by her too!! It’s an interesting time period that mot a lot of authors touch on and a great story with how the characters find their way back to each other. Jillian Stone’s series is great too. I wish she would write more.

  9. flchen1 says:

I’m with Sue–I loved Carrie Lofty’s Christies, and was always hoping she’d write more in that series. I loved that Flawless had a setting we don’t see often, and I also enjoyed that it was a sort of second-chance story, which I also love.

  10. SusanE says:

Thank you, DonnaMarie! I picked up four of the Jillian Stone series for 99 cents each and I’m almost done with the first one. I love the setting and the characters are a breath of fresh air.
