  • The Scotsman Who Saved Me

The Scotsman Who Saved Me by Hannah Howell

The Scotsman Who Saved Me by Hannah Howell is $1.99! This is the first book in a new series, Seven Brides for Seven Scotsmen. There is a “nursed back to health” element, if that’s your catnip. However, readers were expecting a bit more action based on the book description.

From New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell comes a brand new series featuring the MacEnroys, a family of seven strong, seductive Scottish brothers who have come to America with nerves of steel—and who will take no prisoners when it comes to love…

A brutal attack on Emily Stanton’s family has left her for dead . . . until she is found in the woods by a handsome stranger with a thick brogue who vows to protect her. There’s only one problem: As a woman with a noble English background, she has no business keeping company with such a man.

For Scotsman Iain MacEnroy, Emily’s high-tone accent is a bitter reminder of the oppressive regime he left behind. The last thing he needs is to be burdened by the needs of a beautiful, blue-eyed Englishwoman. But taking care of elegant, educated Emily begins to transform Iain in ways he never imagined. Could it be that the deep divisions from the old world no longer apply in the new—and that Iain and Emily can share a passion as lush and wild as the Scottish highlands themselves?

  • To Catch a Lady

To Catch a Lady by Pamela Labud

To Catch a Lady by Pamela Labud is 99c! This historical romance is the first book in the Hunt Club series. Some readers loved the setup of the romance, but others found there was a lack of real conflict between the hero and heroine. If you’ve read this one, let us know what you thought!

Ashton Blakely, the Duke of Summerton, cannot stop his aunt from meddling in his affairs. So rather than let her select a most disagreeable mate, Ashton decides to fire the first volley by holding a ball as a scheme to bag the ideal wife: a deferential girl eager to produce and raise an heir, leaving Ashton to his beloved hunting lodge and titled friends. But when Ashton falls for the one woman who isn’t willing to play his game, all his plans scatter like buckshot. Suddenly, the chase is on!

Caroline Hawkins has no interest in marriage. In fact, she has devoted her life to defending women from the indignities visited upon them by their husbands. She only chaperones her beautiful younger sister to Summerton’s ball in the hopes of saving her family from bankruptcy. She certainly doesn’t expect to catch the Duke’s eye . . . nor is she prepared for the heat that rises every time she thinks of his powerful build or his dark, tantalizing gaze. Caroline can run, but she cannot hide—for Ashton has already captured her heart.

  • The Ranger

    The Ranger by Monica McCarty

The Ranger by Monica McCarty is $1.99! This is the third book in the Highland Guard series and can be read as a standalone. The hero, out for revenge, infiltrates the heroine’s clan. Readers loved the emotional connection and angst in the romance, but felt divided on the heroine. It has a 4.2-star rating on  Goodreads.

Chosen to help Robert the Bruce in his quest to free Scotland from English rule and claim his crown, the legendary team of warriors known as the Highland Guard battles on.

Embedded deep behind enemy lines, Arthur “Ranger” Campbell is prized for his razor-sharp senses and his ability to blend into the shadows. But when Arthur infiltrates the clan of the chieftain who murdered his father, his heart is locked on revenge. Inside he faces unexpected resistance from the sweetest of obstacles—a honey-haired siren who is his enemy’s daughter.

Intrigued by this ruggedly handsome newcomer to her father’s forces, the vivacious, enchanting Anna MacDougall is a woman whose skill at uncovering deception rivals Arthur’s own. Though yearning for a quiet life with a good man to love, Anna is drawn to this mysterious knight whose eyes devour her but whose words push her away. As danger, treachery, and the threat of looming war draw them closer into each other’s arms, a warrior made of steel must make a choice from the heart: love or revenge.

  • The Book of Strange New Things

The Book of Strange New Things by Michael Faber

The Book of Strange New Things by Michael Faber is $1.99! This book made a bunch of lists when it came out. It was a New Yorker Best Book, NPR Great Read, and made the New York Times 100 Notable Books list. Many loved how the main character as a man of faith despite it being a scifi novel. However, others found the scifi elements to be lacking. Have you read this one?

It begins with Peter, a devoted man of faith, as he is called to the mission of a lifetime, one that takes him galaxies away from his wife, Bea. Peter becomes immersed in the mysteries of an astonishing new environment, overseen by an enigmatic corporation known only as USIC. His work introduces him to a seemingly friendly native population struggling with a dangerous illness and hungry for Peter’s teachings—his Bible is their “book of strange new things.” But Peter is rattled when Bea’s letters from home become increasingly desperate: typhoons and earthquakes are devastating whole countries, and governments are crumbling. Bea’s faith, once the guiding light of their lives, begins to falter.

Suddenly, a separation measured by an otherworldly distance, and defined both by one newly discovered world and another in a state of collapse, is threatened by an ever-widening gulf that is much less quantifiable. While Peter is reconciling the needs of his congregation with the desires of his strange employer, Bea is struggling for survival. Their trials lay bare a profound meditation on faith, love tested beyond endurance, and our responsibility to those closest to us.

Marked by the same bravura storytelling and precise language that made The Crimson Petal and the White such an international success, The Book of Strange New Things is extraordinary, mesmerizing, and replete with emotional complexity and genuine pathos.

  1. Kate says:

*Gasp!* A Scottish romance without a kilt on the cover!

  2. Hazel says:

That Michel Faber sounds very good. And of course there are a number of religious characters in sci fi novels. Proselytising the natives is an old theme, isn’t it?

  3. Lora says:

    @Kate /shakes fist, demands kilt/

  4. Ren Benton says:

I knew somebody would be happy about the lack of kilt, but it looks to me like the title should be The Scotsman Who Saved Me Before I Ran Off With This Mennonite Dude.

  5. Tori says:

Beloved by Corinne Michaels is FREE in the Kindle Store.

  6. genie says:

I feel like I need to support the Highlander romance that takes place in AMERICA.

  7. Gloriamarie says:

The Scotsman Who Saved Me My goodness a Highlander wearing a shirt and trousers! Hooray.

The Ranger and we’re back to the shirtless in a kilt cliche. …sigh… For a change I’d like to see the hero in just his shirt with a bit io backside showing,

  8. Michelle in Texas says:

I read “The Book of Strange New Things.” Not a fan. It was actually pretty good, until about the last two chapters. Then it went of the rails for me. The ending didn’t fit with the rest of the book, in my opinion. But YMMV.
