  • Wildfire

    Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

RECOMMENDEDWildfire by Ilona Andrews is $1.99! This is the third (and final?) book in the Hidden Legacy series and trust me, this series is amazing. I’m hoping this isn’t the last time I get to visit this world. I wouldn’t suggest reading this without reading the ones before it, though the first book is often on sale. You may have already picked it!

Just when Nevada Baylor has finally come to accept the depths of her magical powers, she also realizes she’s fallen in love. Connor “Mad” Rogan is in many ways her equal when it comes to magic, but she’s completely out of her elements when it comes to her feelings for him. To make matters more complicated, an old flame comes back into Rogan’s life…

Rogan knows there’s nothing between him and his ex-fiance, Rynda Sherwood. But as Nevada begins to learn more about her past, her power, and her potential future, he knows she will be faced with choices she never dreamed of and the promise of a life spent without him.

As Nevada and Rogan race to discover the whereabouts of Rynda’s kidnapped husband and are forced to confront Nevada’s grandmother, who may or may not have evil motives, these two people must decide if they can trust in each other or allow everything to go up in smoke.

  • Soulless

    Soulless by Gail Carriger

    Update: Deal no longer available.

Soulless by Gail Carriger is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is the first book by the Parasol Protectorate series and for many readers, this book ignited their love for Carriger’s writing. I loved the first book, especially the heroine, but I agree with other reviewers in that there’s a lot of different things going on that conflict with one another. If you’re looking to get the entire series, it’s available for $16.99.

Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire—and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London’s high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

  • Trifling Favors

    Trifling Favors by Heather Hiestand

Trifling Favors by Heather Hiestand is $2.99! This is workplace romance with suspense elements and a historical setting. Some readers loved the mystery, since it added more drama to the story. But some felt the romance was a bit lacking. This is the seventh book in the Redcakes series, all of which are discounted. You can grab all seven books for less than $11!

The sweetest treat is a kiss…Greggory Redcake’s plate is full. Widowed young and left with two small children, the manager of the Kensington location of the illustrious tea shop is besieged on all sides between the bakery and family matters. If only his remarkably efficient shop assistant, Betsy Popham, could manage his home life, too! But Greggory can’t linger on thoughts of Betsy’s fetching smile when a dead body is discovered in the bakery…

Betsy has no time for romance, not even with the delectable Mr. Redcake, whose kisses are all too unforgettable. Haunted by a specter from her family’s past, Betsy is terrified that the man blackmailing her has turned to deadly violence. Yet the only way to save her position–and possibly her life–is to accept Greggory’s help as their delicious attraction sweetens into the tantalizing promise of true love…

  • Playing With Fire

Playing With Fire by Cynthia Eden

Playing With Fire by Cynthia Eden is $2.99! I’d describe this as an enemies-to-lovers/mistaken identity paranormal romance. The heroine is the daughter of a man who targeted supernatural creatures and, judging by the description, the hero has no clue of her relation (at least at first). Reviews on Goodreads mentioned that readers loved the chemistry between the two main characters, but a few took issues with how cold the hero was at times. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

    An Old Flame

Cassie Armstrong has plenty to atone for. The daughter of the most immoral researcher ever to pick up a scalpel, she’s determined to use her own brilliance in genetics to repair the damage her family has done to the paranormals. Especially Dante, the first of the phoenixes, the one they call the Immortal. He’s been haunting her dreams since she was a little girl, and she’s been trying to ease his pain for almost as long. If only he remembered any of it. . .

Dante doesn’t know what Cassie’s story is. He almost doesn’t care. The minute he sees her, all he can think is mine. But there’s more to the pretty little doctor than meets the eye. And Dante isn’t the only one to notice. He can’t trust her, but he can’t stay away—and if he wants to learn her secrets, he’s going to have to fight like hell to keep them both alive. . .

“There Is No Good Card for This: What to Say and Do When Life Is Scary, Awful, and Unfair to People You Love” is $1.99 all over. I had to take a break because instead of giving me the script promised in the title, it began with “We’ll get to that, but first, let’s look at why you feel so helpless and inadequate when someone is in crisis,” and I did not have enough Kleenex in my purse for that snotfest.

  2. Gigi says:

Yahoo! I’ve been stalking Wildfire since it came out hoping for a sweet deal. Made this awful news Monday-stuck-in-bed-with-a-cold worth it.

  3. Emily C says:

After being waitlisted for a few weeks I just picked up Wildfire from the library on my lunch break… and now I can return it because I totally one -clicked that book! Yay!!! Happy Monday!

  4. marjorie says:

I’m reading Wildfire RIGHT NOW and have only 30 pages to go and am trying SO HARD to slow down and savor. It’s such a fun series, and I too hope we’ll revisit this world. Either of Nevada’s sisters would be delightful to read about as they get older…or hey, go back and time and do Nevada’s parents’ story!

I enjoyed the humor and quirk in Soulless, but liked each successive book less and less, and finally quit after book 4. I know a couple of teenagers who really love Carriger’s Custard Protocol series, with its younger characters, tho…and I check out Carriger’s vintage fashion blog now and then, too. Girlfriend KNOWS HER SHIT.

  5. Julia aka mizzelle says:

Looks like AMZ price matched that freebie price on Laura Florand’s Once Upon a Rose! Also Conspiracy In Death (#8) book is on sale

  6. Katie Lynn says:

I don’t believe that Wildfire will be the final book in that series. There was too much setup with the future fight with the grandmother for there not to be more. But maybe it’s just the end of the story for Nevada and Rogan and there will be a different couple as the next focus (like her oldest cousin).

Hot & Heavy by Elle Kennedy is currently 99 pennies. It’s a re-release of a collection of three of her Out of Uniform novellas, which feature kind of kinky military heroes. Double check you don’t own these in your library first, as they were individual Samhain titles and the ‘Zon won’t tell you whether you own them!

  7. If anyone needs the 2 books prior to WILDFIRE in the series, they are eligible for Harlequin Rewards points off of their site. Most of Ilona Andrews’ books aren’t available there, but this is an Avon series, so yay for free books!! 🙂

  8. Kathleen says:

Woo hoo!! I actually forgot I needed to BOLO for Wildfire, so I’m doubly pumped about this deal! Thanks, as always!

I picked up the first Hidden Legacy book based on a sale here, and it took me a while to read it. As soon as I did I snapped up nearly everything else she’s written. I need to work my way through the Kate Daniels series and I’m holding off just because once I storm through those I’ll have to wait for more books by Andrews! I love the Hidden Legacy series and want more in that universe. I agree that the sisters are fertile ground for more books – but I also think her employer Augustine or her new employee (whose name I am blanking on) would also be interesting main characters if they went beyond the family. Or her male cousins!

  10. Avice says:

I bailed on the Soulless series when (SPOILERS for early book, don’t remember exactly which one) a main character viciously slut-shames his love interest in public society. There wasn’t really enough grovel in the world for me to like him after that, but IIRC he didn’t even try groveling: eventually he’s sorry, but he’s sorry because he was *mistaken* about the love interest being a dirty cheating whore, not sorry that he ever openly called her a whore, and his love interest takes him back because he’s sorry instead of dumping his ass flat for ever speaking to her like that in the first place. This relationship eventually soured me on the rest of the romances and then the series itself.

I tried skipping to the Custard Protocol sequel series because it was a little removed from the Parasol Protectorate bits I disliked, but then the first book goes straight into some orientalist exotifying nonsense about Indian characters, and I gave up. I’ve sworn off Carriger books until/unless reviewers I trust report that the newer books are worth the time and potential rage headache.
