Mythology, Monsters, & Spies!

  • The Immortals

The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky

The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky is $2.99! This is the first book in the Olympus Unbound urban fantasy series and the second book is on sale as a Kindle Daily Deal. Sarah gave the first book a B grade:

When I started reading it, I had a really difficult time putting it down. The world building made for addictive reading, even when I was reading things I usually don’t read.

    MANHATTAN HAS MANY SECRETS.
SOME ARE OLDER THAN THE CITY ITSELF.

    Manhattan.
The city sleeps. Selene DiSilva walks her dog along the banks of the Hudson. She is alone-just the way she likes it. She doesn’t believe in friends, and she doesn’t speak to her family. Most of them are simply too dangerous.

    Murders.
In the predawn calm, Selene finds the body of a young woman washed ashore, gruesomely mutilated and wreathed in laurel. Her ancient rage returns. And so does the memory of a promise she made long ago. To protect the innocent-and to punish those who stands in her way.

    Gods.
With the NYPD out of its depth, Selene vows to hunt the killer on her own. But when classics professor Theo Schultz decodes the ancient myth behind the crime, the solitary Huntress finds herself working with a man who’s her opposite in every way. Together, they face a long-forgotten cult that lies behind a string of murders, and they’ll need help from the one source Selene distrusts most of all: the city’s other Immortals.

  • This Savage Song

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab is $1.99! I know several people (my roommate included) who love Schwab’s writing and essentially will read anything she publishes. But while the description seems really original, some readers were disappointed by how generic it was. The second book is also due out next month. Have you read this one? Let us know what you think in the comments!

There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.

  • Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom

Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom by Vanessa Kelly

Confessions of a Royal Bridegroom by Vanessa Kelly is $1.99! This is the second book in her Renegade Royals series, and has a 3.8-star average. You can grab the third book for the same price!

It’s a mix of mystery and adventure: the hero and heroine are brought together because a mysterious infant is delivered to the hero, with a note that the baby’s life is in danger, and the heroine is sent to serve as the baby’s nurse, while also secretly protecting him.

They are the Renegade Royals, illegitimate sons of the Royal Princes, each finding his rightful place in society–and the woman destined to be his perfect match. . .

Some men are born into scandal. Others pursue it with a passion. Griffin Steele, secret son of the Duke of Cumberland, is guilty on both counts. Yet somehow London’s most notorious scoundrel has been saddled with an abandoned baby boy–and with the unflappable, intriguing spinster summoned to nurse him. . .

Justine Brightmore may be a viscount’s niece, but she’s also a spy’s daughter, determined to safeguard the infant when his suspected royal parentage makes him a target. Yet how to protect herself from the rakish Griffin? Marriage might shield her reputation, but it can only imperil her heart, especially with a groom intent on delicious seduction. . .

  • The End of Me

The End of Me by Tara Brown

The End of Me by Tara Brown is 99c! This is a romantic suspense novel and the start of The Single Lady Spy series, which might be up the Bitchery’s alley! There are some hints of a love triangle, if that is or isn’t your catnip. I love the cover designs of this series and you can pick up the three books for 99c each.

Ten years ago Evie Evans left behind a dangerous job to be a mother and a wife. Now widowed and left to raise her children alone, Evie is prepared for anything.

    Well, almost anything.

There are actually two things she isn’t prepared for at all.

The first being a sexy young man named Coop, a CI operative who is thrust into her world as her protector and handler. The other is an arms dealer named Servario, who the military has decided she must gain the trust of.

But the world she left behind has changed and unfortunately, so has Evie. The minivan-driving mother of two couldn’t be further from the woman she once was and she doesn’t have time to catch up.

At every turn there seems to be a secret or betrayal awaiting the inexperienced spy.
But Evie has a secret too, she just doesn’t know it yet.

This hot, sexy ride is filled with espionage, secrets, and twists you will not see coming.

  1. Darlynne says:

In the comments of another topic, mention was made of what Amazon US has done to customer wishlists, specifically that we can no longer sort by price (stupid, stupid, stupid, Amazon).

The decision to allow only priority sorting and purchased/unpurchased filtering has already been made, but perhaps if enough of us write, call, etc., something will change. I know a lot of us have wishlists of 100s of books and now you have to scroll through all of them to check prices. The only people who don’t understand how readers use their lists is Amazon.

  2. Vicki says:

I am using Amazon less anyhow, not just because of the wish list thing, but because the site is now so busy that it takes forever to load on my slightly less than new computer. B&N loads much better….

  3. Nora says:

I use my local library. No need to wait for it to load.

  4. Julie M says:

I sent an email complaining about the wishlist sort criteria change and I got a credit. I’d rather have the ability to sort my wishlist by price but I encourage others upset with this change to complain. I hope you get a credit too.

  5. Cindy o says:

This Savage Song was actually my first Schwab book. I really liked it.

  6. Demi says:

“The End of Me” Lady Spy book looks REALLY good. It’s in first person FYI.

  7. Ele says:

I read “The End of Me,” and did pretty much enjoy it. There is some fun dialogue, lots of action, and some spicy sex scenes. That said, though, it did have some problems. It has a mystery, so I’ll try not to give away too much, but there was some dialogue along the lines of: “You totally coerced me into humiliating sex/killing that guy.” “Yeah, but I had secret reasons that involved saving the world, and you enjoyed the sex part.” “Oh. Well okay then.” I’d be more troubled by that if it weren’t in the midst of such a laughably convoluted spy-versus-spy madcap adventure that is impossible to take seriously. And speaking of impossible to take seriously, there is a mysterious figure in this book who is referred to as the “Master Key.” How can anyone read that and not yell, “Ghostbusters!”
