  • Mercury Striking

    Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti

Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti is $1.99! This is a dystopian romance and the first in a new series. Readers loved the worldbuilding and thought the heroine had a nice blending of being confident yet vulnerable. However, some said they felt a little lost in all of the action. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads. The second book, Shadow Falling, is on this month’s Hide Your Wallet post!

With nothing but rumors to lead her, Lynn Harmony has trekked across a nightmare landscape to find one man—a mysterious, damaged legend who protects the weak and leads the strong. He’s more than muscle and firepower—and in post-plague L.A., he’s her only hope. As the one woman who could cure the disease, Lynn is the single most volatile—and vulnerable—creature in this new and ruthless world. But face to face with Jax Mercury…

Danger has never looked quite so delicious…

  • Mr. and Mr. Smith

Mr. and Mr. Smith by HelenKay Dimon

Mr. and Mr. Smith by HelenKay Dimon is 99c at Amazon, Kobo, and iBooks! I believe it’s $2.99 elsewhere. This is a gay romance that takes inspiration from Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Both Sarah and Elyse were excited about this title:

Sarah says: HelenKay Dimon writes terrific adventure and spy romance, with not too much of the entrails-and-peril, and I’m very curious about this one. I like her stories and I like her characters, so YES PLEASE.

Elyse says: Seconding Sarah. I can’t wait for this retelling of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Secrets and seduction make for an explosive combination in HelenKay Dimon’s edgy, thrilling new series, which kicks off with a novel about two men who can handle any threat—except the one posed by desire.

Fisher Braun knows how to keep a secret. As a covert paramilitary operative, his job—and his life—depends on it. He’s at the top of his game, ready for action and always in control. No enemy has ever brought him to his knees, but one lover has: Zachary Allen, the man currently sharing his bed. The perfect package of brains and brawn, Zach is someone worth coming home to, and Fisher hates keeping him in the dark about what he does. But the lies keep Zach safe. Until the day Fisher loses everything. . . .

Zachary Allen is no innocent civilian. Although he plays the tech geek, in reality he’s deep undercover for the CIA. In a horrible twist of fate, the criminal enterprise he’s infiltrated has set its sights on the man whose touch drives him wild. Zach would do anything for Fisher—except blow his own cover. Now, in order to save him, Zach must betray him first. And he needs Fisher to trust him with all his heart if they want to make it out alive.

  • Ride with Me

Ride with Me by Ruthie Knox

RECOMMENDED: Ride With Me by Ruthie Knox’s is 99c at Amazon, Kobo, and iBooks! However, it’s priced at $3.99 at other vendors. Road trip romance! On bikes! Sarah reviewed this book in 2012 and gave it a B saying that the ending was rushed, but still really enjoyed it:

I really enjoyed this book. It made me smile, I loved reading it, I was happy while I was reading and after I’d finished, and I hope, if you like contemporary romance or road trip romances or both, you’ll pick this up. I must caution about the ending, as it was disappointing, considering how much I enjoyed the book, but even with that caveat, I think this book is worth your time.

In this fun, scorching-hot eBook original romance by Ruthie Knox, a cross-country bike adventure takes a detour into unexplored passion. As readers will discover, Ride with Me is not about the bike!

When Lexie Marshall places an ad for a cycling companion, she hopes to find someone friendly and fun to cross the TransAmerica Trail with. Instead, she gets Tom Geiger—a lean, sexy loner whose bad attitude threatens to spoil the adventure she’s spent years planning.

Roped into the cycling equivalent of a blind date by his sister, Tom doesn’t want to ride with a chatty, go-by-the-map kind of woman, and he certainly doesn’t want to want her. Too bad the sight of Lexie with a bike between her thighs really turns his crank.

Even Tom’s stubborn determination to keep Lexie at a distance can’t stop a kiss from leading to endless nights of hotter-than-hot sex. But when the wild ride ends, where will they go next?

  • Wicked Lies

    Wicked Lies by Lora Leigh

Wicked Lies by Lora Leigh is $2.99! Keep your fingers crossed for some price matching! This is a contemporary romance, though some readers say it has elements of romantic suspense and erotic romance. But fans of Lora Leigh say that this is pretty much exactly like Leigh’s previous romances. Have you read this one?

From #1 bestselling author Lora Leigh comes Wicked Lies, a sizzling novel of the Men of Summer-their ways and means, and the women they desire…

    HE’S TEMPTING FATE
Jazz Lancing is the stuff of legends. A mountain-bred ex-Navy SEAL with rugged dark looks, a tall muscled frame, and gorgeous blue eyes, he can have any woman he wants in the state of Tennessee. Except Annie Mayes. The beautiful, innocent teacher refuses to fall for Jazz because she’s hiding a secret more powerful than her own temptation …

    SHE’S IN TOO DEEP
Jazz knows that Annie isn’t who she says she is-that she’s lying about her identity, her past, and her motives. But can she be trusted? Little does he know Annie has been craving his kiss for years, dreaming that Jazz would take her in his arms and save her from her demons. But telling Jazz the truth could put both of them in peril. In this deadly game of danger, deceit, and darkness, is desire worth the risk of losing…everything?

  1. I loved loved LOVED Ride with Me, and I’m not generally a big reader of contemporaries. So funny and so emotionally real and so SO hot. I did a Backroads bike tour through the Pacific Northwest many years ago, and the long-distance bike stuff really rang true for me. Plus I said hot, right?

Best 99 cents you’ll ever spend.

  2. AnAu says:

I admit, I have a (likely) irrational dislike of Ruthie Knox and that book, despite never having read it. So many people were blathering on about what an original idea it was, and Knox’s own Amazon bio reads: “Her debut novel, Ride with Me, is probably the only existing cross-country bicycling love story.”

Except, not. I read a Harlequin American Romance in 1991 with the exact same premise. Blue Skies and Promises by Kate Logan. (Woman seeks someone to travel with her on cross-country bike ride from Portland, OR to Portland ME. Hero signs up. Yep, same premise.) I’m not saying she copied it or anything; plenty of people come up with similar ideas independently. But reading all the smug satisfaction at how original her idea was, when she should have at least hedged her bets and realized there are no new ideas, rubbed me the wrong way.

  3. CelineB says:

@AnAu- I refused to read I Am Four for a similar reason. A friend billed it as great and different then told me the premise and I asked her if she was talking about Roswell.

How the Duke Was Won by Lenora Bell is $1.99 on Amazon at least (haven’t checked the other sites). I liked it quite a bit, but I know some people had problems with it not being historically accurate enough.

  4. Cas says:

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner is 1.99 today at Amazon, I believe. Loved it. Need a copy on my Kindle.
Paving Paradise by Nerika Parke is 99 cents, and the second in the series, Finding Paradise, is 99 cents as well @ Amazon. Loved these and Parke’s romance ghost series, too, Love After Death.
I want to thank everyone who recommended The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery! I’ve got it on my Kindle right now.
    Must… stop… buying… books –!
    Or not!

  5. Dora says:

Looking at the cover for “Ride With Me”, all I can think about is the horrific road rash dude is going to get the first time he hits a pot hole.

  6. Lia says:

I bought Mercury Striking and quite enjoyed it until the hero spanked the heroine with a belt, without the heroine’s consent that is. Immediate DNF for me and returned to Amazon.

  7. marjorie says:

Crap, bought Mercury Striking before I saw Lia’s comment. Will return. Consent is key.

  8. Lia says:

@Marjorie: the book has some glowing reviews on Amazon, so may be it’s just me (although some do mention the spanking incident as a WTF-moment). The heroine does something that could potentially put her and the rest of the compound into danger, the hero gets mad at her, she gets mad at him and says he would never hit a woman amyway. After which he spanks her with a belt and than storms off.
To me it was just an immediate DNF, which was a shame, because up until that point I was enjoying it quite a bit.

  9. kkw says:

I biked across country. It is probably the least sexy thing I have ever done (and that’s a hard fought contest). Bugs, dirt, sweat, no showers, no plumbing, exhaustion, starvation, cramped tiny tent, always on lumpy rocky uneven ground- it’s just not conducive to sex. Plus there was a good six months of reoccurring poison ivy, oh don’t forget urinary tract infections, toenails falling off (part of that time was hiking, to be fair) I’m gonna stop now, I know I always go on about this whenever this book comes up. Just trust me, irl it is gruesome.
I was very, very impressed that Ruthie Knox managed to make a romance out of it, and a really good one at that.
I’m so excited to learn there’s another one! Must track down now.
