I’m BACK! It took me awhile to do this last one because, well, you’ll see. But if you’re just arriving here at the mayhem, welcome! I’ve been taking a really thorough look at the Contemporary Romance Colors that are most prevalent on covers this year and attempt to identify what is the CR-COTY, the Contemporary Romance Color of the Year. We’ve talked about Green. A LOT of Contemporary Green Romance, and debates about whether something … Continue reading Contemporary Romance Color of the Year: So Much Blue. So Much.→
10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall is $1.99! This is book one in the Material World series. It’s tangentially related to Hall’s other books Boyfriend Material and Husband Material, but works fine as a standalone.
The Viscount Who Vexed Me by Julia London is $1.99! This historical romance is book three in the Royal Match series. I’m getting a hint of Cyrano de Bergerac from the description.
The View Was Exhausting by Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta $2.99! I mentioned this one on a previous Get Rec’d for hardcover romance readers, though now it’s out in paperback. Lots of tropes here – fake dating, celebrities, and friends to lovers
Lizzie and Dante by Mary Bly is $1.99! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is Eloisa James’s pen name or rather real name. This is more women’s fiction than a contemporary romance.
In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer is $3.99! This is a contemporary romance with an opposites attract pairing and quite a memorable “meet cute.” Have you read this one?
If you enjoy sci-fi, arranged marriage/marriage of convenience stories, courtly intrigues, and/or slow-burn romance, I think Winter’s Orbit is a great choice.
RECOMMENDED: The Menopause Manifesto by Dr. Jen Gunter is $1.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this sale. Tara gave it an A:
If your field of fucks is completely barren and you just want some straightforward, evidence-based information served with a healthy dose of snark and the occasional jab at pseudoscience and Gwyneth Paltrow, this will be the book for you.
Catherine: Yes, this feels like a C+ to me. The fact that this is a debut makes me pretty excited for the next one, though, because I think that while structural issues can be frustrating, getting to the heart of characters is what we read romances for, fundamentally. And that’s done really well here.
Good Girl by Lauren Layne is $2.99! The heroine is a country singer and the hero is a moody estate owner. I haven’t read this one, but I’ve read other Lauren Layne titles, and she writes such great dialogue. However, some readers thought the romance was missing something. Have you read this one?
Meet Cute Club by Jack Harbon is $2.99 at Amazon! This is a M/M contemporary romance with two enemies joining forces to save one of the heroes’ romance book club. Readers loved Jordan, who unabashedly loves romance novels, but had difficulties with Rex.
