Books on Sale: YA Adventure, Medieval and Paranormal Romance - and Gardening!
Today's books on sale include a medieval reprint, a German YA adventure fantasy, a paranormal, and a book on vegetable gardening year round, even in the dead of winter. I'm seriously tempted by that last one! Wild and Wicked is a medieval romance originally published in 2002. It's $2.99 digitally. I'm not sure what's going on in that cover. I *think* the one on top is Apryll. Every eye is on Lady Apryll as she … Continue reading Books on Sale: YA Adventure, Medieval and Paranormal Romance - and Gardening!

Ghost Planet by Sharon Lynn Fisher: A Guest Review by Carrie S

Ghost Planet was depressingly terrible as only a promising book can be. The premise was wonderfully intriguing and the author (Sharon Lynn Fisher) writes good descriptions and has an overall good use of language, with a few scenes that were genuinely harrowing. The writing technique is polished and smooth. This high level of potential made it almost insulting when the book became progressively lost in scientific bullshit and stock, annoying characters. Fair disclosure – Ghost … Continue reading Ghost Planet by Sharon Lynn Fisher: A Guest Review by Carrie S

Books on Sale: Stephanie Laurens Historicals
First: I was chatting on Facebook about setting up a mailing list to have the deals posted here sent to your inbox once a week. There was a lot of interest, so I am working on creating a list just for the books on sale listings. I will only send the digest once a week, unless there's a spiffy deal that's valid for one day only. I will not ever sell or share your info, … Continue reading Books on Sale: Stephanie Laurens Historicals

41. Plot Moppets and Pet Moppets
Time for another podcast! We answer a reader letter from Elyse about kids and pets in romance – and how often they become matchmaking plot devices. Plus, while I'm reading Elyse's letter, you'll hear my dogs being podcast moppets in the background. We also talk about what we're currently reading, including a discussion of Lisa Kleypas' upcoming novel, Crystal Cove. Here are the books we discuss in this podcast: There are now three covers online … Continue reading 41. Plot Moppets and Pet Moppets
Biography Geography: WTF?
I noticed this weird thing when I was updating my own bio (something you should probably do at the start of every calendar year, just to make sure it's up to date and doesn't talk about upcoming books that came out in October 2011, not that I am guilty of that… no, not at all): most author biographies start with geography. Is it me, or is that a little bizarre? I mean, I'm guilty of … Continue reading Biography Geography: WTF?
Links and News and Fun Stuff
I saw a few tweets about this go by but I cannot for the life of me find the first one to credit my source, so this will be attributed to the person I call SOTI – Someone On The Internet. Not quite enough of a citation, I agree, but it's the best I've got right now. Austenland, a film based on the book by Shannon Hale, premiered at Sundance this week, and news today … Continue reading Links and News and Fun Stuff

Books on Sale: More Caroline Linden Historicals
A few more Caroline Linden titles are on sale digitally – woo hoo! It's supremely cold out, which makes me feel six times more inclined to find a blanket and a corner of a cushy piece of upholstered furniture and not move until May. This book is $2.99 on sale at most retailers. Those two cover models are most likely sleepy. It was a most coveted invitation—a glittering ball attended by all the important … Continue reading Books on Sale: More Caroline Linden Historicals

All He Ever Dreamed by Shannon Stacey

While the Kowalski novels are rapidly becoming comfort re-reads for me, especially the first and third ones, and while I'm always happy to go visit all the characters and see that they retain as much personality as they had in their own novels, this book ended up being more of a visit for the sake of everyone else. I didn't keep reading because I was transfixed and drawn to the lead characters. There wasn't anything … Continue reading All He Ever Dreamed by Shannon Stacey
Links!
First, Jim C. Hines' cover reshooting to raise money for the Aicardi Foundation has yielded a cornucopia of silliness. At the recent ConFusion, Jim C. Hines, John Scalzi, Pat Rothfuss, Charles Stross and Mary Robinette Kowal recreated “Young Flandry” – reversing the sex of the models, obviously. Thanks to Carrie S. and many others who forwarded me the link. The result is just majesty. There is a whole depository of hilarity as Jim posts more cover … Continue reading Links!
