Overall I loved reading this book. I literally gasped and clapped my hands over my mouth periodically, like a silent movie star. It’s so gripping, so beautifully written, and such a powerful homage to women’s voices and the need to unify against a common enemy.
In 1893, there’s no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box.
But when the Eastwood sisters–James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna–join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women’s movement into the witch’s movement. Stalked by shadows and sickness, hunted by forces who will not suffer a witch to vote-and perhaps not even to live-the sisters will need to delve into the oldest magics, draw new alliances, and heal the bond between them if they want to survive.
There’s no such thing as witches. But there will be.

Sawbones
Sawbones by Melissa Lenhardt is $1.99! This is the first in a historical fiction series that I remember reading through my local library. I liked it, but I couldn’t tell you much about it now.

Just as a heads-up, Sawbones was good historical fiction, but the heroine (and most of the other female characters) get subjected to all the sexual abuse, misogyny and degradation that the plot could throw at them. It was enough to make me uninterested in reading the others in the series.
For historical lady medics who aren’t put through the wringer, try Audrey Blake’s All In Her Hands or Amanda Skenandore’s The Nurse’s Secret.
Silver & Lead, book 19 of the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire is $2.99. Book 20 (how?!) is coming out in late September.
Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs, Book 9 in the Mercedes Thompson series is on sale for 1.99. It won a Goodreads Choice Award in 2016 (how was that 10 years ago?)

Once and Future Witches is one of my all time favorite books.
I read maybe the first two books in the Sawbones series and then noped out, for the reasons listed above by @Lara. I just couldn’t see the point anymore.
